Chapter 139: What was it?

LILY

"No!" Lily heard her Big Sis scream from the bathroom, and she flinched at the sudden turn of events.

One moment, they were preparing to eat the nice-looking dinner her brother was preparing, and the next, her Big Sis was suddenly retching in the bathroom.

It was incredibly chaotic, and her brother desperately wanted to call an ambulance.

"Mommy, what’s wrong?" Lily had to ask, worried about everyone. It was very rare for her to see any other expression on her brother’s face, and now he looked agitated.

As a man who was either too calm or too annoyed, his sudden antics confused the little child.

"It’s Eliana. She’s not exactly feeling well, honey."

"Oh no!" She hoped it was just an upset stomach, like what happens to her when she drinks and eats different desserts in succession, but then she remembered how she fainted just the other day.

"This is an emergency. We don’t know what’s going on! Is this because you listened to that shitty excuse of a report?"

"It’s definitely not that! We’ll go to the hospital. But I swear I won’t come with you if you call an ambulance!"

Lily’s favorite people were arguing, and all she could do was comfort Chester, who was also alarmed by all the shouting.

But she understood how scary this was. When they heard about the last fainting episode, everyone was on edge, leading to all of them descending upon the house like a swarm of bees.

And now she was sick again.

Lily was apprehensive but could only imitate everyone else. She didn’t want to add to the problem by being unruly.

"Lucian, I’m not dying. Stop pacing so I can finish this, and we can go!"

"You don’t know that! You don’t even know what’s wrong with you!" Her brother stood outside the door, looking like he wanted to bolt inside.

"Lucian, prepare the car and a few of her things." Mommy finally spoke up, and Lily felt like her mom was very experienced and reliable.

By some miracle, they all managed to wrangle everyone into the cars while leaving Chester to be a caretaker. The entire family followed in their vehicles like a concerned parade.

Though she wanted to see them with her own eyes, she didn’t complain when their Grandpa herded her to ride with him.

"Grandpa, is she going to be alright?"

"She will be, Lily. We just have to make sure to listen to the doctors well and watch her well in case she needs something." Her Grandpa tried placating her, but Lily’s ears zeroed in on something important.

He mentioned needing to watch her in case she needed something, and Lily couldn’t understand how this many eyes would be enough.

So the well-meaning child decided to message her cousin, Rina.

Lily was glad to see her cousin respond immediately. She felt she was right to tell her about the problem because Rina’s reaction made it clear that this was important.

Soon, they arrived at one of the hospitals owned by the Zellners.

Lily never liked hospitals, especially when she remembered how they all missed her brother’s graduation because she was suddenly hospitalized.

And now it was her Big Sister.

They all tried waiting patiently outside the laboratory where she was getting tested. In reality, they were actually asked to stay inside the private room they got in advance.

The doctors actually seemed surprised when her brother insisted on their usual room even before the test results showed up.

But Lily just watched them prepare a room for her Big Sis when her cousin came running towards them.

Rina had her Big Sister’s parents with her, and they all crowded over Mom to ask about the results.

Technically, they wanted to go to her brother first, but he wasn’t exactly in the best condition to explain.

He looked like he was also about to get sick, and Lily confirmed that her suspicions were correct when her cousin spoke up about it.

"What’s up with Lucian? With how he’s looking right now, I think he should be confined."

"Does he understand that they can’t both fall sick simultaneously?"

"Lucian?" It was only when Aunt Eloisa spoke that her brother stopped pacing.

Initially, he looked dazed and then surprised at how there were new people with them.

"Mother, I’m sorry I didn’t realize you were here. Eli was adamant about not informing anyone else."

Lily could see her brother tensing up as he tried to explain without being asked.

"I figured that would be the case. Thankfully, Lily wasn’t told the same thing."

"!!!"

Was that a bad thing?

She thought it would be better to have more people, so she messaged her cousin.

Lily’s eyes widened in panic, not wanting to disappoint her Big Sister, of all people.

"It’s all right, Lily. You did well to tell Rina. She never told you not to speak about it, so you should be fine."

Aunt Eloisa winked at her, and Lily, who was close to standing up from her chair, sat back down again.

It took a while, probably an hour more, before the doctor allowed them to see her Big Sister.

She had been transferred into the Sinclairs’ dedicated room and was easily surrounded by everyone who wanted to see her with her own eyes.

Lily was too short.

So, she could only hope to be carried if she wanted to see anything.

The child climbed her father’s leg, trying to get him to notice her desire to be carried.

But right as she was flung up to see better, the doctor who disappeared earlier walked in with his clipboard and a professional smile.

"Doctor, what’s wrong with my wife?"

"Ma’am Eliana, are you okay with me discussing your results with everyone present?"

Lily watched her Sister nod and smile weakly to answer the doctor’s question. And in fear and anticipation, Lily ended up sucking her thumb—a habit she already outgrew but would return to every time she was stressed.

But then the Doctor’s next words were unexpected, especially for a child like her who didn’t know any better.

"Then, Congratulations, Ma’am! You’re pregnant!"

The room fell silent as everyone processed the news.

Then chaos erupted.
