Yours, Until Needed
Chapter 120: Guarantee

Chapter 120: Guarantee

It was a peaceful afternoon where I was, and all that was left to do was to wait for some news about my post.

To everyone else, it would have been a typical thank-you, but to one person, it was a slap in the face.

But instead of the call that I was waiting for, I was graced with an unexpected visitor.

As soon as the doors opened, I saw a change in the surveillance camera’s live footage. With how many shady people I have after me, I vowed to have a monitoring screen close by.

Then, I watched as a handsome man stalked through our office lobby, effortlessly attracting everyone’s attention. His confident stride worked well for him, especially in a suit.

At times like these, I forget he’s my husband.

But then again, I don’t even know what he’s doing here this early.

I saw Mitchel give a short greeting, which Lucian returned with a curt nod. But that didn’t get him to pause; eventually, he just headed straight for my door.

So, I just sat on my chair, with my chin resting on my hand while waiting for my guest to just burst in.

"Oh, to what do I owe the pleasure of seeing you so early, Mr. Sinclair?" I chuckled, wanting to know what’s got him powering through the office.

"I’m here to pick you up."

"You could’ve just called, you know? That way, you didn’t have to go through all the trouble to go up my office."

Lucian just gave me a side-eye, effectively ignoring my quip to look around the sizeable office.

"It’s the same office unless you’re here to inspect your handy work?" I couldn’t help but laugh now because he looked like he was inspecting the flowers he had shipped into my office.

"Did you like them?"

"I do, but there was no need to send this many."

"Then, you don’t like them?" His face contorted like he was about to pout if I answered incorrectly.

"I like them. I like them enough that I’m wondering if we should just name our children after flowers."

His face balked, and I tried very hard not to chortle at his sudden expression.

"Maybe we should reconsider the need to have kids. I don’t see the necessity."

"HAHAHAHA!" Sometimes, he’s amusing like this, especially when he looks confused.

"Now, did you bring any good news with you?"

"You’ll have to wait til later for Alyssa’s call. She’s working overtime because Alexa had to stay back at the office."

"Alexa’s working overtime? Are pigs flying?!"

"No, but her reputation is sinking."

"Then she’ll have to pretend to be docile for a while. That’s a major hit to her credibility."

"Like she had some to begin with." Lucian just shrugged at that, still standing in front of the door like a bouncer.

"I suppose you want to leave now? Seeing as to how you’re not even sitting down."

"Let’s just go home."

I rolled my eyes at him, sighing in exasperation. "Fine, let me get my bag." I’d rather not have him stand there like a statue, so let’s just go home.

But before I passed him out the door, his hand suddenly gripped my hand, his fingers weaving through my fingers. It wasn’t forceful, but he didn’t hesitate.

"Let’s go." This certainly wasn’t the first time they’ve held hands. In fact, if I counted the days before age seven, that would be every day we saw each other.

So, my hand just accepted him instinctively, like it was made just to do that.

Tsk.

Traitor.

Lucian was like this recently. We weren’t really averse to physical intimacy, but Lucian now initiated more of it regardless of the time and place.

Even Oliver couldn’t help but look at me as if to ask for an explanation that even I couldn’t give.

But of course, our employees still found that novel since Lucian had always been too aloof to them. So, seeing him like this still made some giggle.

"Have a good day, Boss!"

"See you tomorrow!"

After rounds of friendly goodbyes, it took a while for us to leave the premises.

I noticed the big cat sulking again. To my credit, I tried patting his head and even massaging his shoulders, but he was just getting exceedingly grumpier with every person we passed.

By the time we went home, he already looked like he’d been to war. But with whom, no one knows?

"Okay, this ends today. I give up. You—" Lucian’s eyes suddenly widened like he heard something catastrophic.

"You come here and tell me what’s wrong with you. It’s been days, and any more of this, and you’ll drive everyone crazy, especially me."

It was only then that Lucian’s shoulders relaxed a bit, and his eyes returned to a more normal state.

"You looked fine before we left the office, and now you look like you passed through a storm."

"Too many people."

"What’s wrong with people?"

"You know too many people."

"What do you mean by I know too many people? You know those people too, since when was that a problem?"

"It’s a problem today. It’s too annoying. Too many people want a piece of you."

I’m not sure I’m following his line of thought because I’m distracted by how he looks right now.

It was downright mean that I wasn’t focusing, but he really looked like a child whining about something baffling, like the people we pass by every day.

"I don’t remember any of them being cannibals???"

"It took us half an hour just to leave your office and another half an hour to get to the house’s front door."

"But we always take that long. Nothing’s new?"

"Or did you just notice the people now? Before, I thought you had moved around without acknowledging living beings. But it seems like that’s not the case anymore."

Lucian looked irritated; his eyes carried menace, but it looked like a child’s tantrum to me.

"That’s it, huh? You’ve finally started seeing people on your radar. And you’re uncomfortable with how many there are."

"You should stop talking to them too much. You will save more time, " he said without looking at me. Instead, he just stared at the door like someone would bust through it anytime now.

"I can’t do that. Especially not after going into the hospitality industry. I’d need to socialize more, in fact."

"You need to change your business."

Okay.

Now, I see.

I’d have to pretend to be too dumb not to notice.

"Get your ass over here," I said as I laid back on the couch, with Chester trailing my movement.

I extended my arms towards him before saying, "Now."

And Lucian was relatively obedient in moving closer but was unsure where to position himself. So, I decided to just pull him against me.

"I can’t stop talking to normal people just because. That’s not a nice thing to do. But I promise to talk to you more."

We fell back onto the couch; his face ended up resting on my chest as I rolled his hair around my finger.

"I’ll stay with you more, and I’ll dote on you more."

Lucian looked up from where he was and looked really doubtful, like I was some liar.

"If you’re doubtful, then draft a contract. That ought to make you feel better."

His face brightened up at that. And the guy actually drafted a damn contract.

I don’t know anyone else whose night ended like mine, but by the time I woke up the next day, I had already signed the weirdest contract ever.
