Chapter 118: Better Choice

ALEXA

It had been perfect so far.

She finally managed to get these people to operate as she wanted them to. She had suffered for an entire week and had nothing to show for it until today.

The problem wasn’t her efforts but the extent to which these people did not care for gossip unless it directly impacted their work. These corporate slaves worked too hard to want to bother with office politics.

And Alexa didn’t expect it to be that bad.

That alone cemented her idea of never wanting to go to work ever again. It just wasn’t for her. So, all the more effort she needed to give to marry someone of Lucian’s caliber.

Thankfully, he could utilize Nicholas’ obsession with Eliana.

Of course, she wasn’t the one to buy the flowers; she had just heard about it and informed Nicholas, who was away at a meeting, that she was planning to spread a few rumors.

The target for this wasn’t exactly Lucian but his Grandfather.

Alexa surmised that, like her Grandfather, he would find this behavior reprehensible. Something like this could tarnish the company’s reputation, and Eliana was just an in-law who couldn’t possibly hold as high an importance as a blood relative.

It would be easy to eliminate her, so rumors like this wouldn’t follow Lucian and the Sinclair Group.

It’s always the older people that Alexa finds easiest to deal with. That was exactly how he turned their own Grandfather against his own grandchild.

It was not all that difficult when the company image was more important.

So, Alexa hoped that the rumors would get to the Chairman.

By now, she had also identified the people she could use for her plans. Just because most were focused on their work did not mean that all were.

And with the sudden existence of Eliana, a lot of the women here probably had their own hidden desires for Lucian suddenly stifled. So, it was impossible for Eliana not to have ruffled a few feathers.

Now, it was her turn to collect these people.

Just as expected, the lunch room was a hotbed of whispered gossip, with the water dispenser serving as the podium for Alexa’s orchestrated scandal.

"I heard before that the boss’s wife was supposed to be engaged to the boss of BCI," muttered one of the female SCC employees.

"Yeah, but I heard that was why she severed her ties with that clan. I remember she didn’t want to be engaged when she was already with our boss." Another employee chimed in.

Alexa listened from afar, not adding more fuel to the fire. It was enough that she started it. After all, she couldn’t appear to be too tactless, or she might offend the Chairman.

She needed to show enough class and restraint. But how she longed to just lambast Eliana right off the bat.

If not for having bigger plans, she would’ve done just that.

Technically, the gossip she started shouldn’t have been sensational, especially since Lucian even stood next to the flowers as if he knew who they were from.

It was just that she had the past to fuel the fire. With the video of that wretched party circulated to enough people, many should’ve been familiar with the thwarted engagement between Eliana and Nicholas.

And Alexa was banking on that and more of Nicholas’ antics at trying to win Eliana.

That girl was so uptight and bookish that it had always been difficult to create a scandal about her. So, she was hoping to insinuate it this time and let other people come to their own conclusions.

Even if their conclusions weren’t as bad as she wanted, a tarnished reputation was still a tarnished reputation by the end of the day.

And her chance finally came when she was called in by Mr. Barton, the Chairman’s Assistant.

Alexa initially conveyed her resistance to talk. Under the guise that it was going to be unprofessional and that her earlier exclamation was just out of surprise.

She didn’t mean to say that out loud, even.

Of course, she meant to say it out loud several times over the same hour. But semantics.

No one else had to know.

But of course, she was going to go there even if she had to drag a carcass over.

It was her chance to impress the Chairman, and she would do it to the best of her ability.

The Chairman’s office matched the known personalities of the Sinclairs. They were never ostentatious but always precise and efficient. And his office matched that.

And even the Chairman’s demeanor and appearance matched Alexa’s impression of the Sinclairs.

The genes were really strong, and if Lucian was going to age like the Chairman, who looked dashing even now, then he was bound to age like fine wine. And Alexa really liked that.

She already liked Lucian’s current appearance but realized she would be fine even if he eventually aged. This would ensure that their children wouldn’t be worried about their genes.

He would be perfect for her.

Alexa only stopped daydreaming when she was asked to sit down.

Of course, she greeted with all the formality and innocence that she could muster.

First impressions matter.

"So, Alexandra, what do we have here?" Alexa panicked for a moment until she realized she had her name tag on, so no wonder he would be able to call her by her name.

"Honestly, Mr. Chairman, I’m also unsure of this. It was only a coincidence that I mistakenly exclaimed earlier. So, even now, I’m hesitant to inform you about it, " she said, making sure that her eyes didn’t gleam with the conniving glint she normally had.

"Well, whatever it is, it’s better to just hear it."

She took a deep breath as if trying to steel herself for whatever she was about to say.

"If that’s what you want, then please excuse me."

Then Alexa proceeded to dramatize, ordering the same flowers she saw Eliana holding in the pictures. She even talked about how they were delivered to the same place.

However, she was only asked to pass and pay, not knowing the recipient’s name, as the order had been a repeat order from her boss.

According to her, she made a teasing joke about the lucky girl who would receive such a stunning bouquet and was told that it was for his beloved.

Of course, none of that really happened, but this was also for Nicholas’ benefit, so he had better just shut his mouth and cooperate.

"So, when I saw the photos and video earlier, I couldn’t help but gasp. And it was my fault for being unable to control my surprise despite being in public. I’m really sorry, Chairman."

She had to apologize because this was still done at the premises of SCC, but Alexa had a feeling that such a problem wouldn’t be much for SCC, which was the innocent party in this. In fact, this may make them look more benevolent. And they’d have to thank her eventually for giving their reputation a nice boost.

This was even in contrast to the issue started by Eliana, which almost cost them the Windham Project.

See? She would be the better choice.
