Yours, Until Needed
Chapter 105: Fight Fire with Fire

Chapter 105: Fight Fire with Fire

By the time we left his office, Grandpa was still enjoying himself, while my husband’s scowl deepened as we walked towards his office.

"What’s got you so twisted?" I asked, knowing what might have been the cause but not understanding why he was reacting like this.

"Everything. I don’t like any of this."

Lucian practically threw the documents onto his desk, clearly annoyed at today’s development.

"You realize I should be the one scowling, right?"

Technically speaking, these people probably have it out for my neck. And even Alexa was directly participating.

"Don’t drink random drinks, okay?" I figured I’d remind him of her current drugging streak.

"I don’t eat or drink random things. Only you do that."

"Wow. Remind me not to be concerned about your well-being."

"You’re the one that needs tighter security. Maybe we should add a secondary team. And stop leaving by yourself. I should start picking you up." Lucian stared at his desk while mumbling solutions. His jaw kept on clenching, and it was a rather scary sight.

"Have you forgotten they’re in your office? Breathing the same air as you?"

"That doesn’t matter."

"I see." Well, clearly, insisting wouldn’t work.

But with how Alexa’s worming her way in like this, I shouldn’t be concerned about dying in a literal sense.

"She’s not going after my head like you’re imagining. She’s going to use public opinion."

This wasn’t the first time. Whenever she opted to do it herself, her plan always involved getting the people onto her side.

"I won’t be surprised if she hosts a welcoming party, inviting all the staff she could possibly invite."

Then she’ll wiggle her way into the hearts of Lucian’s employees so that they’ll see her in a better light.

"She’ll be the intern they’d want to protect. And I’ll be the boss’s wife who mistreats the poor intern."

"Oh! Then, another version would be spreading rumors about you and her. Maybe something like an office romance only blocked by your marriage with me."

"That’s stupid." Lucian leaned back on his chair frustratedly.

"And that’s why it works. Because people tend to overlook small sparks, then the moment it’s fully ignited, they’d be caught blindsided."

I say that because it’s happened more times than I’d like to admit. As someone who typically ignored other people’s opinions, I realized too late how it could be weaponized against me.

Heck, now I’ve been addicted to doing the same thing.

"What, are you planning to just let her do that?"

"Of course not. Maybe that would’ve been fine before, but not anymore." I flashed him a cheeky grin.

"?"

"So, what’s your plan?"

"Honey, can you please bring me to your meeting?"

"Meeting?"

I used my eyebrows and my finger to point at the invitation on his desk playfully. Lucian looked confused at first but then looked aghast when he realized what I was pointing at.

"No."

"Come on, Lucian. I swear I got this."

"Why would you even want to see this lunatic?"

"Because the best way to fight a lunatic is by using another lunatic."

There’s underhanded, and then there’s unbothered. You need someone crazy enough not to care about consequences when fighting such a battle.

"Besides, if this doesn’t work, I still wanted to ask Lara a few questions."

"And what questions would you have to ask a stalker?"

"Frankly, she hasn’t really done anything as my stalker. And if anything, that’s more concerning."

"So, you’re going to go there and give her ammunition?"

"No. I’m going there to redirect the fire."

"I know you understand what I’m trying to do. So please be a dear and help your wife."

"It’s because I understand that I can say it’s stupid."

"Or is it because you’d rather I feel bothered when snakes surround you on different fronts."

"And you’re planning on adding to that."

"No. It’s just fighting fire with fire. And you can’t possibly infiltrate the ranks of your people just to find gossip."

"You barely even have enough time for me. How else are you planning on eavesdropping?"

"What do you mean by not having enough time for you?!" Lucian’s brows furrowed, and I found it funny how he fixated on that exaggeration instead of the actual problem.

"I was exaggerating, but that’s beside the point. The point is, I need someone who would probably enjoy doing this. And frankly, babe, that’s not you."

"Oliver can do it."

I didn’t even need to look because I could feel Oliver trembling from Lucian’s side.

"Oliver is about to pass out from the sheer number of things he needs to do. Oliver definitely can’t do it."

Considering his stake in the matter, the poor guy’s probably praying for my success.

"And I’m not planning on sending her alone."

"Then who else are you planning on sending?"

"I’ll have to ask first since this would be a personal favor. But if I could get a positive response, would you consider letting in an intern for a temporary position?"

"I’m still not bringing you to that meeting when I’m not even planning to go myself."

My eyes squint at Lucian’s statement, and my bullshit meter was alarming.

"Oliver, can you do us a favor?"

"Yes, Ma’am?"

"Does my husband have a schedule for the next hour?"

"No, Ma’am. His meeting was rescheduled for the sudden move-in."

"Great. Then could you please give us a moment? And on your way out, please lock the door."

"I’ll be on my way out, Ma’am."

Oliver almost ran out the door, and he was rather dramatic in locking it, too.

"What? You think doing this would get me to agree?"

"Lucian, if you have cameras in this room, please turn it off."

"???"

His face showed confusion, but my husband, despite his mouth disagreeing, would always end up doing it anyway.

"I can handle violence. There’s no point in this." He said as he turned off the surveillance.

I don’t know what he was imagining, but it surely wasn’t what I was planning on doing. There are times when violence won’t work.

Like today. So if the big guy won’t listen, let’s just convince the much easier junior.

__

I left Lucian’s office with an aching back and a triumphant smile.

He may be scowling even more, but that’s his problem. A deal is a deal.

So when Oliver asked if I needed anything besides the Occupancy Permit and other related documents, I told him to remind Lucian of my return.

He was dumbfounded and even had to confirm if I was successful, but I reassured him of my success.

Now, all I need to do is ask for permission and a few favors, which I did when I got to our new office.

"Riri, I need permission for something. And can you get Alyssa for me?"

"Sure, I’ll get her."

"So, what do you need my permission for?"

"I was hoping to ask Alyssa if she could do a little something for me?"

This required a lengthy explanation and a cup of coffee for our sanity’s sake.

"She’s actually interned there?! Does she even know how to open a computer?"

Alexa’s the type not to appliances for the sake of her manicure but is willing to grope dicks for some reason.

"Wait, why would you need Alyssa, then?"

"She can’t be the only one pretending to be an intern while spreading gossip, you know?"

"I should also serve them tea as a gracious host."

"!"

"Oh shit! Can’t I join too?"

See? She’s even crazier~
