Chapter 651 - 653: Omega Level Abnormality·Taotie
Chapter 651 -653: Omega Level Abnormality·Taotie
The slightly twisted pocket watch gradually calmed down, and they arrived two months earlier. From a distance, they could see a multitude of massive and terrifying synthetic beasts violently assaulting a giant sand dune, and aside from that, synthetic beasts created by the Biological Master also vanished into specks.
Moreover, it was not just any single beast that disappeared, but a whole series targeted.
“Omega Level Abnormality·Taotie!” Sun Zhen recognized that particular mound instantly, which contained the being known as Taotie.
The name sounded fierce, but it was actually a transformed human.
“This explains everything, those bodies’ concepts were devoured by Taotie. It’s akin to… burial,” Sun Zhen’s tone was somewhat mixed.
Despite the ferocity suggested by the name, it was actually an abnormality on the side of their All World Protector Organization, aiming to prevent the spread of synthetic beasts created by the Biological Master.
Although Taotie was indeed capable of consuming just about anything, he was also at risk of overeating, especially because he was consuming not the synthetic beasts themselves but their conceptual models. Consuming the very concept of synthetic beasts to such an extent that the Biological Master could no longer produce them would have been too challenging and could have killed Taotie from overindulgence.
Hence, they could only resort to a strategic roundabout method, and as such, the synthetic beasts Qin Muye and Sun Zhen subsequently saw, though numerous, were of extremely limited variety.
The bulk of the synthetic beast models formed by the Biological Master had been devoured by Taotie, leaving little behind.
“Let’s go meet this Taotie,” Sun Zhen said after using the Biological Master to handle all synthetic beasts and then led Qin Muye toward the giant mound.
For now, the mound was still safe, at least there was no need to worry about Taotie eating them. Generally, unless ordered to feed, Taotie would not eat. Clearly, it was some researcher within the base who had asked Taotie to help deal with the Biological Master, although it ultimately failed.
While it couldn’t be said that Taotie’s combat abilities were weak, they were nonexistent; his only skill was his capacity to consume.
Along the way, Sun Zhen briefly introduced Taotie to Qin Muye, not knowing the specifics, but he had a general idea.
Due to Taotie’s uniqueness, he was not placed within the Dragon Vein but was kept in the present world.
Sun Zhen had not expected that Taotie would be in this base. If his former base had reacted more quickly, he might have gained a powerful ally when he was establishing the shelter. However, it was also possible that he could have been killed outright by a head-on collision with a Cloud Whale.
Upon entering the mound, they found themselves in a vast different space, resembling a cave with numerous sharp and large stalactites and stalagmites orderly distributed around the perimeter, forming a cage-like circular boundary.
Taotie seemed very surprised to see Sun Zhen; he didn’t recognize Sun Zhen, but he recognized the Special Task Force uniform he wore.
When Qin Muye first saw Taotie, he also thought it strange. The creature looked like a colossal canine, with eyes on its head and a pair of conically curved horns, its narrow snout was bound, and its body was covered with fluffy white fur, giving it a voluminous look. At a closer glance, it had leaf-shaped red patterns resembling eyes on each front paw and underarm.
“Have you contained the Biological Master?” Taotie obviously knew because he had ended up eating nothing during his last meal, indicating that the Biological Master’s data had already been erased, meaning all various models of synthetic beasts dependent on the Biological Master’s database had disappeared.
“Yes, we have successfully contained it. I belong to…” Sun Zhen started to introduce himself, then continued, “Omega Level Abnormality·Taotie, I want to ask what exactly happened here?”
“Things got a bit complicated. I was inside the base the whole time. Later, there were issues with the Dragon Vein, as you might have seen. Some functions were inoperable, plus the fluctuations of the Dragon Vein shook the Biological Master, leading to various containment failures.”
“What exactly happened?”
The restraints made of white bone on Taotie seemed to clench with his heightened emotions.
Poor Taotie, the shackles binding his limbs were made from the blood bones of his mother, the muzzle around his mouth was made from his father’s bones and teeth, and the cave that trapped him was built from the flesh of his lover.
This too was something Sun Zhen had mentioned, otherwise Qin Muye genuinely wouldn’t have known. To him, it seemed just like a smaller version of the Primordial Dragon; one was a Guardian God created by a nation, while the other was a devouring monster assembled by a family.
He had existed for a very long time; when he had suffered, it was still the era of tribes, before the Human Emperor had even appeared.
Before being sheltered by the All World Protector Organization, he had always been used as a tool by the ambitious, to devour intangibles such as people’s poverty, disease, or the decline of a nation, and the thoughts of people, among other things.
It was only later that the All World Protector Organization, adhering to a policy of strength coupled with gentleness, brought him into their Conciliatory Plan that Taotie finally started to have good days.
For Taotie, the All World Protector Organization was his home, which is why he was so fervently opposed to the Biological Master. This was not a day’s battle; nearly a month had passed by the time the base was destroyed before he left, presumably taking the cave to another All World Protector Base.
After all, he truly couldn’t withstand the continual appearance of synthetic beast models from the Biological Master. If the base had not been destroyed, he could have held on, but with the base gone and people dead, he no longer saw the need to persist.
“I’m not sure, but my base should still be alright. If you head north, you should be able to find it,” Sun Zhen, what could he know? As front-line combatants, their salaries and status were actually not low, but they didn’t know much because they didn’t have the time; they were either training or on duty, so generally, they didn’t know much about Abnormalities or certain secret information.
He didn’t know much not because the All World Protector Organization was guarding against him but because he didn’t have the time to fully understand, only managing a superficial understanding.
Like with Taotie, the little he knew was already enough for him.
“I have the genocide brand left by the Cloud Whale on me; can you devour it?” Sun Zhen asked again.
Having found out it was Taotie, this idea seemed like a welcome surprise. If it were another Abnormality, he really wouldn’t have been able to handle it.
But Taotie was different; he could devour not only tangible but also intangible things.
“You exterminated the Cloud Whale? That… no, that’s not right; how come there wasn’t backlash afterward?” Although Taotie’s face was expressionless, his tone was genuinely shocked.
“No, it was just a minor accident, the Cloud Whale… at this point, there might be one left.” Sun Zhen said somewhat helplessly.
Hearing this, Taotie was speechless. What difference did one make compared to none at all?
However, Taotie didn’t say much for a simple reason; this matter involved close relations. He and the All World Protector Organization were family, fundamentally unacquainted with the Cloud Whale. Although the death of the Cloud Whale shocked him, he knew that normally, the Special Task Force would absolutely not take deadly action unless necessary.
So there was no need to think about it; the fault definitely didn’t lie with his own people, it had to be the Cloud Whale’s group.
“No worries, but I’ll report this to my supervisor, and you should remember to write a report when the time comes.” The Bone Ring in Taotie’s mouth slightly expanded, he opened and closed his mouth once, then seemed to have swallowed something.
“All right, then let’s head back, pick up the people at the base, and leave together.”
After dealing with this, Taotie naturally thought of escaping with his people since it was really too dangerous. However, having someone come to the rescue was still a kind gesture, though it was just two people. He guessed something might have happened on the way, or perhaps accidents occurred while containing the Biological Master.
Therefore, he didn’t plan to ask about it but was ready to return with his people.
“We have other missions; you go ahead.” Sun Zhen obviously refused, why go back to the base? They definitely needed to return to their original location, waiting for the Time Retrospective Pocket Watch to cool down before returning to the past.
Now, with only one month left, just another half-month forward, none of this would have happened. As for another half month, that was definitely just to be extra cautious; otherwise, would they really address the issue the day it happened? That was impossible.
