Chapter 622 -624: They Appear Silently

Sun Zhen had explained that such entities are both individuals and groups, named “human ghosts” in that ancient tome, essentially ghosts masquerading as humans.

If you don’t know, you’ll just feel that there is one more unfamiliar acquaintance in your life, but if you do know the truth, the entity will start to haunt you.

However, the ancient book doesn’t disclose what these human ghosts are up to because it’s incomplete.

“There’s a small issue here, which is why haven’t you been affected?” asked Qin Muye.

He hadn’t been affected because he was strong, but it was a big problem that Sun Zhen hadn’t been affected by the human ghosts, as his manager had seemingly conjured up all sorts of connections and relationships out of thin air, embedded in both the web of big data and the memories of those around him.

Even when Qin Muye used network technology to investigate, there were no flaws to be found, from consumption records to getting married and having children, there were no issues whatsoever.

As for Qin Muye not knowing, that was completely normal, because he simply had no idea who the other party was. Unless he had come across the information first and then noticed a change, there was no reason for him to monitor a regular company with which he had no involvement—it would be as if he were omniscient and omnipotent.

“Maybe it’s because I’ve read the ancient book, people who know about the human ghosts don’t get influenced by them,” Sun Zhen speculated after a moment of silence.

Take ‘Ling Wei’, for example, he had even asked his own parents, and they had affirmatively responded, even clearly stating they wanted him to come back and get married.

“That’s not unlikely, but since it’s a human ghost, and there’s no harm mentioned in the ancient book, why don’t you go along with it? With her figure, I reckon even if you went on blind dates, you might never find someone of that type in your lifetime,” Qin Muye curiously commented.

These standards go hand in hand with one’s principles, yet many people wish to be Ning Caichen. Despite the human ghost’s peculiar behavior, its appearance was not to be underestimated, and indeed, a regular person could easily be tempted.

Sun Zhen, however, just smiled wryly: “Stop joking, I’m really not interested in human ghosts.”

“But you need to be careful now, you’ve gotten involved too, and who knows, you might even end up with a fiancée in a few days.”

In response, Sun Zhen expressed that it was a shared predicament.

Conversely, Qin Muye’s eyes lit up: “If I could find someone who doesn’t mind my looks, I’d take the human ghost home too.”

Sun Zhen gave Qin Muye a strange look, because in his eyes, although Qin Muye might not be devastatingly handsome, he was just an average person like himself, so finding a partner shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Unfortunately, Sun Zhen didn’t know about Qin Muye’s true form, which couldn’t be called ugly but could only be described as chaos and distortion, inhabiting different dimensions altogether.

But then he thought, it’s unlikely that human ghosts would come looking for him, because they couldn’t find him and didn’t even know his name.

As time passed, their causal connection would diminish, and Qin Muye’s presence would continue to fade until forgotten by the other party.

This ability was effective against Abnormalities too, although it took some time, unlike with humans who could forget as soon as they turned their heads.

Take someone like Sun Zhen—if Qin Muye left his home, Sun Zhen would immediately forget about Qin Muye unless Qin Muye interacted with him again, which would restore his memories.

Otherwise, even if Qin Muye were standing right in front of him, Sun Zhen would simply ignore him.

So, as long as he waited a while, the human ghost would eventually forget about the very existence of Qin Muye.

“Then… what should I do?” Sun Zhen braved the question.

Qin Muye had three suggestions for the matter: “Dissect, cook, and flush into the septic tank, knock out and pour concrete to sink in the sea, or brick into the foundation of a construction site—pick whichever you prefer.”

“…” Sun Zhen felt that none of these were options a sane person would consider.

No matter which one it was, after doing it, he’d end up in jail sewing… oh, he might even be executed directly, because those acts were too atrocious.

Human ghosts aren’t people, true, but the problem is they have legal social identities. If one went missing, definitely someone would report it and once surveillance was checked, he’d have nowhere to run.

Did he really think it was still ancient times? There are surveillance cameras everywhere nowadays.

“Is there a somewhat gentler plan?” Sun Zhen tentatively asked.

“There’s one: when ‘Ling Wei’ comes again, let’s lock her in the basement for further research, and you can just announce that you’re cohabiting,” was the response.

“Once I figure out the secret of human-ghost hybrids, there might just be a way to solve this issue,”

Qin Muye thought his three plans were indeed a tad too aggressive. Of course, there were more subtle options, wasn’t researching their body structure in the basement subtle enough?

“Is your research even legitimate? Why do I feel like it’s illegal?” Sun Zhen felt that this was indeed far less direct, but the problem was that it was still criminal.

“Look at what you’re saying, of course it’s illegal, it’s considered unlawful detention. But you can rest assured, this has nothing to do with me, my presence is negligible, so if things go south, nobody would remember me once I run,” Qin Muye said, indicating that Sun Zhen would be left holding the bag.

“???” Sun Zhen understood; the person before him was definitely a pitfall— a really hazardous one at that.

The other party had special abilities, which Sun Zhen reluctantly called ‘low-presence abilities’. At first glance, they seemed utterly useless, but they would actually be incredibly useful if trouble arose.

“Is there a more subtle way that doesn’t involve breaking the law?” Sun Zhen shared that he didn’t want to end up sewing prison uniforms.

“Sure, you can just report the case,” Qin Muye looked at Sun Zhen as if he were looking at an idiot.

Sun Zhen’s face darkened. That was even less reliable, after all, the other party had a legitimate identity, so nobody would believe him, and it might just tip them off instead.

What if the human-ghost killed him and then replaced him? Seeing as they could conjure an identity out of thin air, replacing him didn’t seem like such a difficult task.

Wouldn’t that mean he died in vain?

“I think for such matters, you have to believe that Law Enforcers would definitely help you solve it. Okay, if there’s nothing else, I’m heading off. I wish you all the best,” Qin Muye indicated that he hoped Sun Zhen would keep on living.

“Wait, let’s discuss the basement research plan,” Sun Zhen compromised.

If he really had to report it, he wouldn’t dare to.

“Sure? I still think reporting it has more potential,” Qin Muye said seriously. His suggestion was genuine, once the All World Protector Organization took action, a mere human-ghost— as well concealed as they may be— would probably end up merely contained.

At most, they were an Alpha Level Abnormality. They might live long, but they were definitely not Omega Level.

Even if the human-ghost hadn’t killed anyone or endangered civilization, being classified as Beta Level was also possible.

After all, Abnormalities are judged not by their power, but by the threat they pose.

So in fact, out of the options Qin Muye suggested, reporting the case was indeed the most reliable, while the others might be alright for him, they were truly unreliable for Sun Zhen.

But Sun Zhen didn’t know this, and Qin Muye obviously couldn’t tell him, so he chose something slightly less harsh for him.

“No, let’s go with the basement!” Sun Zhen gritted his teeth, determined to board this treacherous ship.

In Sun Zhen’s eyes, although Qin Muye might be a bit of a trap and somewhat dangerous, at least he was human. But the human-ghost wasn’t, and Sun Zhen certainly didn’t want to one day find himself with a plethora of ‘relatives’, nor did he want ‘sons’ and ‘daughters’ to appear out of nowhere, or to have descendants overrunning his nest.

What was worse was that he couldn’t even fight back. Considering the torment this would bring, it was easy to imagine.

Not knowing was one thing, but realizing the pressure he was under, even if the human-ghost did nothing, they could drive him to his grave. ‘Dying of depression’ wasn’t just a phrase, it was a real possibility.

“Alrighty, we’ll go with the basement then. But you don’t have a basement, right? No worries, I’ll make some alterations for you,” Qin Muye seemed to think the lad was on the right track.

Since that was the case, he shouldn’t be stingy. It didn’t have to be a real basement; turning it into a Different Space would do.

Sun Zhen lived on the twelfth floor, with people above and below him. Digging downward would only let in light through the walls, so they couldn’t craft a basement, which meant they’d have to rely on some advanced technology.

“No, I live on the twelfth floor, you can’t just dig down— Dig?” Sun Zhen wanted to mention that there were people living below, but seeing Qin Muye pull out a large crystal and start measuring, he didn’t know what to say. He wasn’t planning to sell the crystal and then move to a place with a basement, was he? Otherwise, what else could he do?

You couldn’t possibly use some method beyond his imagination… could you?
