Chapter 947: Chapter 947: A Pear Blossom Overpowers a Begonia, the Centennial Spirit Appears
The flying clothes rescued Qin Ruan’s eyes, blocking everything she shouldn’t see.
Qin Ruan walked swiftly to He Mingjin’s back, grasped at the empty air with both hands, and captured a white, blurry figure in her hands.
At the same time, He Mingjin also stopped moving forward.
His eyes were dull as he stared at the woman in his arms, his face twisted in a grotesque expression as if he had tasted something sour.
He was aware in the depths of his heart that he was being controlled by a puppet once again.
He Mingjin was born a golden child, with everyone flattering and pandering to him since he was young.
Now, to be toyed with by a puppet and observed by Qin Ruan in his embarrassing plight, the graceful Young Master He, despite the fear in his heart, was filled with murderous rage at this very moment.
Unable to contain the fury in his heart any longer, He Mingjin draped the windbreaker over his body and then pushed the woman in his arms to the ground.
The woman fell to the ground, confused about how she had provoked this gentleman.
"Get out, you’ll get your money!"
The woman got up, casting a glance at Qin Ruan, thinking someone wanted to poach her golden goose.
Despite being utterly bare, she approached He Mingjin with a seductive sway, and tenderly called out, "Young Master He—"
He Mingjin was immune to her charms, his voice harsh as he said, "Get lost!"
The woman’s body shivered, knowing the fat sheep she had been relying on would likely be out of reach from now on.
She glared resentfully at Qin Ruan, who was examining something with her head bowed, blaming everything on her.
Under the fierce gaze of He Mingjin, the woman picked up her dress from the floor and left the room, holding her clothes.
After the other party left, He Mingjin’s anger showed no signs of abating; his face dark and grim, he turned around.
Qin Ruan looked down at the hands she clenched tight, her gaze carrying a strange and indescribable sense of awe.
He Mingjin furrowed his brow and called out to her, "Madam of the Third Young Master?"
Qin Ruan slowly lifted her gaze, the corners of her eyes rising sharply, exuding a fierce presence, now devoid of her usual gentle demeanor.
She got straight to the point, asking directly, "Young Master He, when you bought that sketch, did anyone tell you about its origin?"
He Mingjin shook his head, his lips pressed tightly as he said, "I just liked it and bought it."
Seeing his puzzled expression, Qin Ruan elaborated, "The woman in that painting is a Ling Charm, painted by a scholar on his deathbed."
He Mingjin felt even more confused, his brow furrowing in displeasure, "What does this have to do with me?"
Qin Ruan gently lowered her gaze, studying the Ling Charm in her hands with its delicate features and innocent eyes, then asked, "Young Master He, have you heard of ’a pear blossom pressing a begonia’?"
He Mingjin uncertainly said, "An old cow eating tender grass?"
"A white-haired elder developed a lustful interest in a young girl, wanting to marry her but could not fulfill his wish, so he painted her likeness, about seventy percent similar, in that sketch you hung in the living room.
The elder pined over the painting, unintentionally confessing his amorous feelings towards it, perhaps due to his deep obsession, the painting was imbued with his lifelong emotions.
Day after day, as the elder poured out his feelings, the woman in the painting transformed into a Ling Charm. She knew that the elder could not marry the girl because he was powerless over his heart’s desires. When you brought her into your home, you naturally became her master, so..."
He Mingjin interrupted, "So she took me for that old man and diligently helped me with my bedroom affairs?!"
Qin Ruan nodded at him.
He Mingjin’s world view shattered; it was unbelievable, and he felt sorry for himself.
Just because he liked a painting, he had drawn such groundless disaster onto himself, losing face both privately and publicly; who could he even argue with about this?
Feeling the Ling Charm struggling in her hand, Qin Ruan flicked a glint of light from her fingertip and injected it into the being’s soul body.
After the Ling Charm calmed down, she said to He Mingjin, "A Ling Charm does not have the same desires as a human, nor does it have its own consciousness like a puppet.
Having developed spiritual wisdom, she inherited the old man’s unfulfilled desires, which is why she was eager to help you with that matter. She had no intention of harming your life; there’s no need for you to mind."
He Mingjin’s eyes narrowed slightly as he remembered the hands the Ling Charm had placed on his waist and the whispers in his ear.
There was something he hadn’t told Qin Ruan—that every time he discharged, the substance would disappear in the blink of an eye, which was exceedingly strange.
Because it was difficult to speak of, he hadn’t told Qin Ruan.
He Mingjin tentatively asked, "Is it that simple?"
Qin Ruan looked at the delicate and beautiful features of the female Ling Charm in her hand, her gaze clean and clear, and sighed softly, "She has been in this world for nearly a hundred years, and her subconscious has been given the cultivation technique by the heavens and the earth, using the yang energy of men, as well as objects of supreme yang, to accelerate her transformation into human form."
Upon hearing this, He Mingjin cursed under his breath and demanded, "So, she was frantically milking me? I’ve nearly lost half my life! Where is that Ling Charm now? I’m going to burn her to ash this instant!"
He verbally queried Qin Ruan while his gaze fixed intently on her clutched hands.
Perhaps having dealt with the Ling Charm before, he saw a vague white shadow through his blurry vision.
Qin Ruan, sensing the subtle emotions in his eyes, said in a warm and gentle tone, "Young Master He, the root cause is actually you. The first day you saw the Ling Charm, did you stand in front of her painting and say something?"
"I was drunk then; who remembers what they said!" He Mingjin’s mood was irritable, his tone full of impatience.
Qin Ruan, through the memory of the Ling Charm, found the words He Mingjin had spoken that day.
"Tell her that the twins might look innocent, but they’re lacking in substance. It’d be great if I could trade the two of them for just one of her."
He Mingjin’s face turned blank, and a blurry image surfaced in his mind, as if such an incident really did happen.
He looked embarrassed, his eyes still blazing with anger, "But that’s still no reason to treat people like that. I’m human, and she’s a demonic spirit. Even with numerous lives, I couldn’t handle her play!"
Qin Ruan detected the fury beneath He Mingjin’s stern exterior, knowing this issue would likely simmer down to nothing.
She asked, "Now that we’ve cleared things up, should I deal with her for you, or do you want to keep her around?"
He Mingjin couldn’t avoid the topic fast enough, "Madam of the Third Young Master, please be a good Samaritan to the end and take care of her quickly!"
Qin Ruan teased with a probing tone, "She’s quite pretty, though. Don’t you want to take a look at her?
After all, you could say you had a matchmaker-maid relationship with her. She meant no harm and just wanted to help you."
Originally intending to catch a glimpse of the spirit charm, He Mingjin backed away upon hearing the latter part of Qin Ruan’s statement, "Forget it. I fear I’d spend the rest of my life trapped in a nightmare."
Moreover, she was just a demonic spirit, and he had already seen that painting downstairs numerous times.
From the white, blurred shadow in Qin Ruan’s hand, he could roughly make out a figure similar to the one in the painting, which diminished his curiosity even more.
Seeing his genuine response, Qin Ruan nodded, "Actually, the spirit charm is nothing but an empty shell. She has no feelings and can’t speak. The reason she took form is because she inherited the dying wish of the person who created her.
She may never be able to change throughout her life, bound by the first master’s dying wish etched into her soul. Even if the painting falls into someone else’s hands, the chances are that they’d encounter the same kind of trouble as you."
Upon hearing this, He Mingjin’s face contorted with disgust, "Can’t she just be destroyed? Keeping such a thing around is nothing but a curse."
Qin Ruan shook her head, "She hasn’t done any evil. It’s rare for such a being to become sentient. It’s enough to send her to where she belongs."
The place best suited for her was the Netherworld, and whether she lived or died after that depended on her own abilities.
With the spirit charm captured, a weight finally lifted from the bottom of He Mingjin’s heart, "Is this matter resolved then?"
Qin Ruan loosened her grip on the spirit charm, which moved its eyes about, gazing innocently at Qin Ruan, its face emotionless.
After a while, it turned its attention to He Mingjin. Its dark eyes roamed over both of them as if calculating something.
Qin Ruan didn’t directly respond to He Mingjin, sensing something off about the spirit charm’s gaze. Her eyes narrowed slightly, her expression turned stern, and she said firmly to the spirit charm, "Enough with your tricks."
Looking innocent, the spirit charm had a beautifully naive face that inspired pity.
Qin Ruan was not swayed, a cold smile tugging at her lips as she released a powerful Evil Qi from Purgatory from the Netherworld, pressing directly against the spirit charm.
She also summoned a pale blue flame in her hand and warned the spirit charm, "Every demonic spirit that has dared to mess with my master has been destroyed, soul and spirit. If you don’t behave, I won’t hesitate to give you a taste of the same."
When the Hellfire appeared, the spirit charm felt suffocated, the oppressive sense coming from all directions wrapping around it. Its soul shrunk, trembling and quivering.
Seeing that it had become submissive, Qin Ruan withdrew the Hellfire and commanded sternly, "Go back to your painting and stay there!"
In an instant, the spirit charm disappeared from the spot, obedient to a fault.
He Mingjin witnessed the eerie blue flames appearing out of nowhere in Qin Ruan’s hands, and the white blurry shadow surrounding her also vanished. The chill in the room dissipated quite a bit, too.
Reflecting on Qin Ruan’s earlier warning, he speculated, "Is she gone?"
Qin Ruan rubbed her warming fingertips, "She’s gone."
He Mingjin was surprised and asked with concern, "But could she have escaped?"
Qin Ruan said with conviction, "She can’t leave that painting."
After the spirit charm left the room, Qin Ruan’s solemn expression did not relax. She walked to the balcony inside the bedroom, her eyes peering through the window at the quiet villa area illuminated by street lamps.
Feeling slightly uneasy, she had a premonition that something was about to happen.
He Mingjin approached her from behind, asking curiously, "Does the spirit charm look the same as in the painting?"
Having not seen the entity’s appearance, he felt a faint regret for the several million he had spent.
Qin Ruan glanced at him and spoke teasingly, "If Young Master He is so interested, why not see for yourself?"
He Mingjin gave her an open smile, "I was just curious after all, especially since it cost me a pretty penny."
That smile of his seemed quite debonair at first glance.
Qin Ruan raised an eyebrow, her gaze protective as she stated indifferently, "Just like the painting, very beautiful and pure, like a puppet."
"The way you describe it, it feels creepy."
He Mingjin’s body broke out in goosebumps.
Qin Ruan replied, "She is a demonic spirit after all. You wouldn’t expect her to be like a normal person, would you?"
The Young Master He couldn’t argue and felt a newfound respect for her.
The pale blue flames that had appeared on her fingertips had seemed very dangerous to him.
Such a beautiful flame made him feel his life was under great threat, as if mere contact would cause his existence to be snuffed out.
It seemed that the Third Young Master Huo’s young wife was even more formidable than the rumors suggested.
A cautious glint flickered in He Mingjin’s charming eyes as he gained a deeper understanding of the Huo Family’s current status in Capital City.
