Chapter 629: Chapter 629 Wei Xishi: Are you, this girl, indirectly scolding me?

Second floor.

After going upstairs, Qin Ruan saw Wei Linchen, who was lazily leaning against the wall at the stair entrance, waiting for her arrival.

He was wearing a light-colored T-shirt, fitted jeans, and leather boots, looking exactly like a university student.

Wei Linchen’s aura was filled with a touch of recklessness and vitality, not resembling his usual composed temperament at all.

Qin Ruan wore a soft smile as she teased, "Mr. Wei, if I saw you in the streets, I wouldn’t recognize you."

Wei Linchen tilted his head and chuckled, "Work and daily life should always be separated. On the other hand, who would have thought that the quiet girl at school is actually a rising star in the Metaphysics World of Capital City?"

Qin Ruan had a small degree of fame in the Metaphysics Circle of Capital City. Most people knew the name, but had not seen the person.

Back when Qin Ruan mentioned that she studied at Shengshi Academy in a group chat, Wei Linchen had a vague sense that this girl might have a convoluted connection with him.

However, when a family incident occurred and he had to leave Capital City for a while, he pushed this matter to the back of his mind.

If he had taken the matter seriously back then and investigated, he might have discovered Qin Ruan’s identity in Shengshi Academy earlier.

Qin Ruan was unaware that she had almost been prematurely exposed.

Her beautiful eyes examined Wei Linchen, who currently didn’t resemble his usual solemn demeanor she had seen at school.

Something seemed off, no matter how she looked at it.

Director Liu went upstairs with a complex expression on his face, overhearing the conversation between Qin Ruan and Wei Linchen.

He then realized that the two weren’t aware of each other’s true identities beforehand.

His expression seemed a little strange.

Seeing that everyone was already upstairs, Wei Linchen tilted his head towards Qin Ruan, "Let’s go inside and talk."

Qin Ruan nodded and followed his footsteps.

Wei Linchen took the lead and walked into the dormitory that Director Liu had arranged for him and Liuliu.

Qin Ruan waited a moment before entering.

She turned to Lin Hao, who was planning to follow her in, and instructed quietly, "All of you wait outside."

Lin Hao looked concerned and said worriedly, "Will madam be okay alone?"

Qin Ruan smiled ambiguously, "What could go wrong with me? If you’re looking for excitement, I won’t stop you from coming in."

Realizing the implication behind her words, Lin Hao thought back to his previous encounter with the Puppet and became uncomfortable.

He swallowed hard, "I will wait outside."

Qin Ruan nodded, "If anything unusual happens, let me know."

"Understood."

After instructing Lin Hao, Qin Ruan walked into the dormitory.

There were another man and woman in the room.

On the sofa facing the door, sat a man who looked rather handsome and appeared to be in his thirties.

Across from him, a woman with average looks sat, wearing black-rimmed glasses, appearing quite composed.

Under the gaze of the two, Qin Ruan walked over to Wei Linchen, who was standing in front of a table.

He picked up a sheet of thin paper from the table and handed it to Qin Ruan.

"This girl is called Cheng Xuelan. She disappeared under mysterious circumstances outside Odi School before the term commenced."

Qin Ruan took the admission information of Cheng Xuelan. When she saw the girl’s photo, she furrowed her brows slightly.

The girl had a face that suggested an untimely death.

Her forehead was gloomy, with brows that connected at the middle forming a small river-like pattern.

Her gaze was unfocused, her aura scattered, seeming to be in a state between sleep and wakefulness, presenting a weak appearance.

At first glance, this girl looked as though she was fated to encounter hardships, face criticism, easily catch severe illnesses, and have a short life span.

After briefly looking over Cheng Xuelan’s personal information, Qin Ruan looked up at Wei Linchen, "How did this girl disappear?"

The latter glanced at the male teacher in the room, "Drowned."

He pointed towards Kang Dong, the male teacher, "Cheng Xuelan was his student. Before she passed away, during summer vacation, they had an encounter outside of school."

Qin Ruan followed the direction of Wei Linchen’s pointing finger to take a look.

Kang Dong looked anxious and unnerved.

Qin Ruan placed the documents in her hand on the table, crossed her arms, leaned on the table, assuming a rather relaxed and casual attitude.

"Could you explain the situation to me, teacher Wei?"

Wei Linchen dropped his gaze to her protruding belly.

He was aware that Qin Ruan was married and pregnant.

Normally, he wasn’t interested in other people’s private affairs, but he was rather concerned about Qin Ruan’s physical condition.

A pregnant woman with a big belly is bound to receive special attention wherever she goes.

Wei Linchen pulled out a chair from his desk and placed it behind Qin Ruan.

"Please, have a seat first."

Qin Ruan thanked him for his thoughtfulness: "Thank you, teacher Wei."

Wei Linchen narrowed his eyes, a playful smirk crossing his serene gaze. "Let’s not be so formal outside of school."

This side of him was more personable, less distant than usual.

Qin Ruan narrowed her eyes, a gentle smile gracing her delicate face. "What should I call you then, Wei Xishi? Taoist Wei, or perhaps Mr. Wei?"

Wei Linchen adjusted his fringe, a charming smile spread across his refined face.

He spoke in the same tone he used in the [Emperor Beitai on Top] group chat, "Call me brother. I’m not much older than you, why be so formal? Isn’t that right, Little Ruan?" At the end, he deliberately flirted with Qin Ruan.

Seeing this flirtatious side of him, Qin Ruan found it hard to reconcile this Wei Linchen with the reserved, aloof teacher Wei from the school.

This sudden change in his character caught her off guard and she didn’t know how to react.

Teacher Wei Linchen at school was someone she respected and agreed with his teaching philosophy.

Wei Xishi outside of school was a Taoist from Capital City; flirtatious, sarcastic, and had an aura of a debonair rogue.

Qin Ruan lowered her head and rolled her eyes inwardly.

Little Ruan? I might as well be Little Lin!

With a shrewd grin she condescended, "Alright, Wei brother."

The way she emphasized the name hinted at something more, a subtle, playful tease.

Wei Linchen frowned, sensing something amiss.

Qin Ruan took out a piece of chocolate from her bag.

She unwrapped the candy and put it in her mouth.

The rich, sweet chocolate melted in her mouth, filling her with a sense of silky smooth sweetness.

Eating the chocolate brought back memories of when Mr. Huo asked her to call him brother.

For some reason, whenever she called Mr. Huo brother, she felt a strange sense of shame deep within her.

But with Wei Linchen, she felt no such pressure.

Soon, Wei Linchen realized what was off.

He crossed his arms, his warm and friendly gaze cold once more, he playfully chastised, "Are you implying something by calling me that?"

Wei brother, Wei brother, it sounded eerily similar to a certain medication.

A drug that many men shy away from.

Of course, it also held a special place in the hearts of some men.

Its purpose is to release nitric oxide, activate guanylate cyclase, raise cGMP levels, stimulate blood flow, and thereby improve certain dysfunctions.

With the melting chocolate candy against her tongue, Qin Ruan gazed back at Wei Linchen with an innocently cheerful look.

Her expression was completely guiltless, "You’re accusing me wrongly."

Despite Wei Linchen noticing her banter, he didn’t forget his purpose for inviting Qin Ruan here.

Having his arms crossed and looking down at Qin Ruan, who appeared naive and pure on the outside, he occasionally tapped his arm.

"I know you’re not the type to take advantage of a situation, so you don’t have to call me brother. Call me Xishi, like you do in the group chat. Xishi is my Taoist name."

Qin Ruan’s eyes widened in surprise, looking puzzled, "Why choose such a name?"

A flash of sadness crossed Wei Linchen’s face, filled with deep emotion, "My late master passed away during sunset, he had been kind to me for a few months and didn’t even leave me a Taoist name before he left. Xishi is a tribute to his kindness."

Qin Ruan scrutinized his face, noting that there was no sense of jest in his expression.

She squinted her eyes and asked skeptically, "What sort of reasoning is that? It sounds like pure nonsense to me."
