Chapter 535: Chapter 535: The Last Lesson of West City, Josh’s Worldview Shattered
Josh noticed that the two men sitting at the next table had makeup on, with heavy eyeliner.
The eyeliner smudged, making them look quite ghastly.
His seemingly harmless gaze did not harbor any animosity.
But the derision and disdain in his eyes were quite annoying.
The shorter redhead scoffed, "What are you staring at?"
Josh met their angry stares with a sarcastic smile, "I haven’t seen such weird-looking people before so I couldn’t help but take a few more looks."
The tall redhead who had remained silent until then roared, "Watch your mouth, kid!"
Josh retorted disdainfully, "As if your mouths are any cleaner! Why, is it only acceptable when you make the insults? You should take a good long look at yourselves first!"
The tall redhead sneered, "You’re asking for it!"
Sitting across the table, Li Zilan, with her leg crossed, tapped her chopsticks on the bowl on the table.
She glared coldly at the two redheads and warned in a low voice, "Don’t push your luck."
The tall redhead suddenly lost his bravado,
He grinned sheepishly, "We wouldn’t dare, not with you, brother Su Wang and brother Shen Ren around."
Their tone made it clear that the two redheads knew Li Zilan and the others and treated them with respect.
Josh had no intention of starting anything; he was about to leave this hellish place and the last thing he wanted was trouble.
He lowered his head to read the menu and randomly ordered a few dishes he could stomach.
After ordering, he handed the menu to Shen Ren sitting next to him.
In truth, Josh was upset.
If this were any other place, he would not have swallowed his pride and would have started a fight.
Su Wang noticed the discontent in Josh’s eyes.
He shared a glance and a laugh with Shen Ren sitting across him.
The four quickly finished ordering, then started discussing Josh’s departure.
Su Wang warned Josh seriously, "Once you’re back, don’t get into a fight with Xiaowu. She might seem like she can only stand gentle treatment, but in reality, she doesn’t like any form of fight."
Josh couldn’t agree more.
He nodded solemnly, "When I get back, I’ll stay clear of her. She’s more terrifying than my third cousin."
Being thrown into West City was a lesson learned in blood.
Living in the Huo Family for so long, he initially thought that his second cousin was the most serious one.
Only when he witnessed the capabilities of his third cousin did he realize he was the cold-hearted one.
Unfortunately, the sudden arrival of Qin Ruan made him realize who the ultimate boss was.
Qin Ruan was the silent yet ruthless one in the Huo Family.
He survived the Punishment Hall; was he supposed to fear getting beat up by his cousins now?
He grew up in the Doyle Family under the strict discipline of his father and mother.
All these were a piece of cake for him.
Until Qin Ruan X threw him into West City, that’s when he realized what purgatory on earth truly felt like.
Shen Ren watched with amusement as Josh appeared lost in thought.
He patted Josh’s shoulder, speaking gently, "Xiaowu means well. She wouldn’t have entrusted you to us if she didn’t care about you."
"..." Josh’s eyes widened, beginning to question his own existence.
He didn’t quite agree with Shen Ren’s statement.
Was this how she showed her care—by throwing him into West City and letting him suffer all that hardship and humiliation?
Li Zilan saw the disbelief on Josh’s face.
Leaning forward, she tapped Josh’s head with her chopsticks.
"Xiaowu’s heart is cold and she’s sometimes stubborn, she wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to entrust you to us if she didn’t care for you.
Be grateful, kid. When you get back, don’t do anything to anger her, got it?"
Josh held his bruised head, frowning and grudgingly replied, "Got it."
Once he’s back, he would definitely stay away from her.
As long as he didn’t interact with her, he wouldn’t get on her bad side.
The food arrived and the four quickly finished their meal.
If it were any other time, Su Wang, Shen Ran and Li Zilan would have already paid and left.
But that night, they ordered a few bottles of wine after dinner.
They kept chatting and drinking in front of Josh.
Josh wanted to join in the drinking, but the three of them turned their heads, their disapproving gaze on him.
"I’ll just drink a bottle. Normally, I wouldn’t even touch this if it was given to me free."
Su Wang sneered, "If you wouldn’t drink it even if it were free, then don’t drink it now. You look like an underage kid."
"I’m already of age. What’s wrong with drinking a bit? Why do you have to control even this?"
Josh hated being treated like a child.
Shen Ran squinted his eyes, his expression filled with mock, "Drinking makes your head fuzzy. Have you forgotten what happened when you first arrived in West City?"
Speaking of that event, it was like a dark stain on Josh’s life.
He was extremely drunk that day, and it wasn’t just being dumped in West City, that was the worse part.
He was educated in turn by Su Wang, Shen Ran, and Li Zilan after Qin Ruan left.
Josh silently withdrew his hand, his lips are nearly pouting to the sky.
It’s just a few bottles of beer; they were being so miserly.
He silently swore, once he left West City, he would drink the most expensive wine in front of them, letting them know the taste of true luxury.
As Josh grew bored, the conversation from the adjacent table caught his attention.
"Do you have any money?"
"I only have about ten."
"I’m broke too."
"What should we do?"
Josh turned his head and saw the tall redhead from the next table holding a handful of change.
The shorter redhead across him took out what looked like a cheap cell phone from his pocket.
He proudly said, "I’ll call the old man, let him send some money here."
The tall youth hurried him, "Be quick, ask him to send more, we’re going to the cybercafé for a night of games."
"Alright, no problem!"
The short youth made the call.
As soon as the call connected, he rudely barked, "You old fool, send me two hundred bucks!"
Not knowing what the person on the other end said, the short youth suddenly lost his temper, "If you don’t have the money, find a way to get it! I’m held up here, and if you don’t come, I’m going to lose a finger."
"You have ten minutes to send the money or else you get ready to collect my corpse!"
Having made his threats, the short redhead smirked at the youth across him, "Ten minutes, I guarantee the old fool will be here."
The tall youth complained discontentedly, "Two hundred won’t be enough, you should have asked for more."
"Once he gets here, I’ll ask him for more!"
This scenario made Josh felt like his world was turned upside down.
These two didn’t even have money for food and had to ask their family for two hundred bucks.
And the ’old thing’ the shorter redhead mentioned,
Was he referring to his father?
Their conversation blew Josh’s mind, especially the complacent tone in which the tall redhead complained.
Josh was, to say the least, shocked by the scene before him.
To him, two hundred bucks were not even enough to tip the car valet when he goes out.
Su Wang, Shen Ran and Li Zilan were so accustomed to such scenes that they didn’t even spare a glance at them, instead continuing their drinks and chats in leisure.
