Chapter 507: Chapter 507: Ruanruan is the first lady of power in Capital City, controlling the elements

The beggar boy was mentioned by Shen Ran.

Li Zilan, sitting across from him, had an inscrutable, teasing smile on her face blackened with heavy makeup.

She stared at Shen Ran with a predatory glint in her eyes.

Anyone who knew her would realize that this was her gearing up for a quarrel.

Shen Ran, oblivious to Li Zilan’s expression, spoke calmly, with a hint of theatricality in his voice.

"The beggar boy was bullied by many kids in West City. He was beaten so badly one night, his face was black and blue and he nearly froze to death by a trash bin. It was truly a dreadful sight.

It was winter and the beggar boy was scarcely clothed, almost naked. People like him disappeared in West City every day.

The owner of the wonton shop felt sorry for the poor beggar boy and took him inside. He served the boy a bowl of wontons just like he did the two boys before him.

As for what happened after eating the wontons, the beggar boy, just like the two boys before him, disappeared."

Li Zilan stirred the remaining wontons in her bowl with chopsticks.

She giggled at Josh, "Young Master, you should know that the reason the wontons here are delicious lies in the ingredients. The most important part of a delicacy is what you put into it."

The color drained from Josh’s face.

A bad premonition began to take root in his heart.

He seemed to understand something, but he couldn’t bring himself to believe it.

He opened his mouth to say something, but a wave of nausea suddenly overtook him.

Shen Ran grinned at him, "Young Master, you understand now, don’t you?"

No, I don’t want to understand!

Josh’s lips, bleakly pale, pressed together tightly.

The tension triggered his swallow reflex. He swallowed his saliva subconsciously, along with the lingering taste of the wontons.

This only intensified his urge to vomit, which was already threatening to overwhelm him.

In the end, he couldn’t hold back. Josh bent over.

"Bleagh!"

He vomited all of the wontons he had eaten.

Su Wang, Shen Ran, and Li Zilan glanced at each other, laughter in their gazes.

"What’s going on?"

The shop owner of the wonton shop came out when he heard the commotion. He was holding a cleaver he used to cut meat fillings in the kitchen.

Seeing the white shimmering blade covered with small bits of some unknown animal’s meat, Josh vomited even harder.

"Bleagh! Bleagh!"

He retched until his stomach was totally empty.

Just the thought of the horrifying images his mind was drawing up made him feel worse.

His imagined imagery left him weak, quivering.

Su Wang waved at the wonton shop owner, "It’s okay, Uncle Li. The child’s just being teased; he’s still adjusting."

"Don’t pick on him too much, he seems like a good kid."

Uncle Li put down his meat cleaver on the rudimentary cashier counter and picked up a pack of cheap napkins beside him.

He then handed the napkins to Josh, "Wipe your mouth, kid. Don’t mind these three devils."

From his tone, it seemed he was quite well-acquainted with Su Wang and the others.

Josh glanced up, and saw that Uncle Li’s hand was also stained with small bits of meat.

It took just one look for Josh’s stomach to turn again.

"Bleagh!"

This time, all he vomited was stomach acid.

As he staggered to his feet to move away from Uncle Li, he continued to retch.

"You, stay away from me!"

In Josh’s view, Uncle Li had turned into a monstrous murderer, a horrifying executioner.

Uncle Li’s hand, holding the napkins, hung suspended in the air.

He couldn’t understand why such a delicate and pretty boy was reacting so strongly to him.

"Hahahaha..."

Li Zilan, Su Wang, and Shen Ran burst into laughter.

They couldn’t stop laughing, and Uncle Li realized it must be their doing.

He stepped forward, tapping each one on the head, "So, what mischief have you been up to this time?"

Li Zilan clutched the spot on her head where she had been hit, her face a picture of innocent distress.

"We didn’t do much to him. He’s just a scaredy-cat!"

Hiding behind Su Wang, Josh shivered at her words.

Was this a matter of being scared?

Every cell in his body protested at the thought of the meat he had just eaten.

If he could turn back time, he would never have entered this sketchy restaurant with the three of them half an hour ago.

If he could further turn back time, he would make sure not to cause any trouble, ensuring that his sister-in-law had no reason to abandon him in West City.

This place was like a mortal purgatory, it was horrifying.

He wanted to go back to Yi Country, he needed to find his dad and mom!

Uncle Li, the owner of the dumpling restaurant, noticed that Josh seemed quite terrified.

Putting a tissue on the table, he sighed.

He pointed at Su Wang, Shen Ran, and Li Zilan: "You three, always up to trouble, even at this age, messing around."

"Uncle Li, you’re blaming us unjustly."

Shen Ran pointed at Josh: "This kid messed up and was thrown to us by Qin Xiaowu. We’re only responsible for taking care of him.

Look at him, all well and fine physically. Haven’t we treated him well?"

"Xiaowu?"

Uncle Li’s expression changed drastically, and then he beamed with joy.

"Xiaowu’s back? How is she? Are people at home treating her well? Is anyone bullying her?"

As the one who had contacted Qin Ruan, Su Wang had the most say in this.

He told Uncle Li: "Xiaowu’s doing okay I guess but not as carefree as she was in West City."

Recalling his recent conversation with Qin Ruan, Su Wang genuinely believed Qin Ruan wasn’t living as freely as she used to in West City.

Hiding behind Su Wang, Josh, enduring his discomfort, muttered internally, wondering how his sister-in-law was not doing well.

She was now the top lady in Capital City, as the daughter-in-law of the Huo family, she could command the wind and control the rain.

Josh dared not speak out, fearing that he would throw up his guts once he opened his mouth.

Hearing that Xiaowu wasn’t doing well, Uncle Li’s joy faded.

He frowned anxiously, "Isn’t she doing well?"

"It’s not that she’s doing badly, it’s just she may not be as free as in West City, Xiaowu is already married."

Li Zilan pointed at Josh hiding behind Su Wang: "Xiaowu’s husband is his cousin, I don’t know what kind of man he is, but he tricked Xiaowu away."

Uncle Li’s gaze instantly shifted to Josh.

He wanted to ask about Xiaowu.

But remembering that Xiaowu had already left West City and it was hard for her to crawl out of the mud, she shouldn’t have any ties with the people in West City anymore.

Uncle Li forced out a smile at Josh, his face looked worse than crying.

But he didn’t know that. He lowered his voice and asked Josh: "Kid, what else do you want to eat?

I’ll make it for you. Xiaowu loved my dumplings, sometimes she could eat two big bowls. I’ll make another bowl for you, with my secret recipe for the soup."

Upon hearing his secret recipe for soup, Josh again imagined all sorts of gloomy images.

His eyes widened, and clutching Su Wang’s back, he subconsciously retched.

"Cough!"

Uncle Li was taken aback: "What’s wrong with this kid?"

Li Zilan dropped her head playing with the dirty braids on her shoulders.

Su Wang stared intently at the shiny wooden table, as if a vivid flower was carved on it.

Shen Ran was the most composed, constantly tapping on his phone screen.
