Chapter 506: Chapter 506: The Newcomer Doesn’t Know the Rules, We Teach Him How to Do Things

Feeling the intense gaze of the three, Josh’s premonition in his heart was growing stronger.

"Why are you all staring at me like that, what’s going on?"

He had already imagined several scenarios in his heart where he might be pranked by the three of them.

Li Zilan watched with a smile as Josh’s expression changed repeatedly, then got up and sat down next to him.

In a boisterous manner, she patted Josh’s shoulder and pulled him close.

Under Josh’s vigilant gaze, she whispered, "Well, now that you’ve eaten dumplings from this shop, you’re one of us, so I’ll just tell you straight out!"

Although Li Zilan’s voice was low, it was clearly heard by Su Wang and Shen Ran.

"No!"

"You can’t!"

Li Zilan’s comment was simultaneously objected to by the two.

This certainly piqued Josh’s curiosity.

He blinked and looked at Su Wang and Shen Ran, "What are you two talking about?"

Su Wang crossed her arms and tipped her chin at Josh, "Let me tell you a story, and you’ll understand very soon."

Josh thought to himself, why don’t you just tell me straight up what was in those dumplings I just ate.

He had figured it out; these three were clearly setting a trap for him.

He leaned back in his chair, adopting the same posture as Su Wang.

"Alright, go ahead, I’m listening."

Bring it on; he was ready for whatever was coming.

Su Wang slowly began, "Years ago in West City, a tale was widely known, it created quite a stir at the time."

Having said that, he paused, seemingly preparing to create suspense.

Josh silently stared at Su Wang, not prompting him, waiting for him to continue his story.

Su Wang seemed to recall some unpleasant memories, his expression darkened.

Shen Ran and Li Zilan’s expressions became somber as well.

Their strange behavior only made Josh more curious.

Despite himself, he asked, "Then what happened?"

Su Wang’s emotionless eyes rested on Josh’s delicate and handsome face.

His gaze fell on Josh’s dazzling blonde hair, his voice holding a faint trace of coldness: "Back then, a little boy with a backpack was heading home late at night when he bumped into his neighbor, the dumpling shop owner."

The shop owner came out with a bowl of dumplings and told the boy, who was about to head home, "Your mom just left for her night shift. Come in and eat some dumplings at my place."

The boy trusted him because he was a familiar face, so he went into the dumpling shop without giving it a second thought and enthusiastically told the shop owner that he had passed his exam that day.

To reward him, the shop owner gave him an extra egg in his dumplings. The boy was so thrilled that he finished the dumplings and soup without leaving a trace."

Josh was listening attentively, not realizing that another dark shadow was about to cast over his life.

"I know, I know, let me tell it!"

Li Zilan interjected Su Wang’s story.

Her eyes gleamed with excitement, and she was staring at Josh as if she wanted to swallow him whole.

"The boy’s neighbor who ran the dumpling shop was immensely popular. Everyone who ate dumplings there gave it a thumbs-up.

Even Grandfather Jiang on occasion would send someone over to buy dumplings. You can probably imagine how delicious the dumplings at this shop were."

"Hmm." Josh nodded his head, "So, the dumpling shop you’re talking about is this one?"

His tone was one of certainty.

Unfortunately, no one answered his question.

Li Zilan continued where Su Wang left off, saying to Josh, "The boy who passed the exam ate a bowl of dumplings at the shop and then disappeared the next day."

Josh’s expression changed drastically: "Was he tricked?"

The issue of a lost child is a major event.

Josh broke into a cold sweat deep down. He sincerely despised people who exploited children for various reasons.

Of course, he had never encountered such a thing.

But having heard of many such cases, he couldn’t help but empathize.

Li Zilan, chuckling at Josh’s tense expression, teased, "Isn’t your imagination a bit limited?"

Josh asked her, "What happened to the little boy? Did they ever find him?"

Li Zilan shook her head, "Let me tell you another story, and you’ll understand. This one is also about a little boy."

"Why are you telling me all this? I don’t want to hear it."

Josh didn’t want to hear about other people’s misfortunes; they made him uncomfortable.

He didn’t like bullying the weak and he didn’t want to feel different emotions based on their suffering.

"Didn’t you want to know what’s in these dumplings? We’re just telling you in a roundabout way."

Shen Ran interjected, his words carrying an undeniable tone.

Knowing he had to live under their thumb for the next two days, Josh bit his lip and silently consented.

Forbearance for the sake of greater achievement, he would endure!

Li Zilan, with her eyes bright, chimed in, "This time, the boy is a bit older, and one night he also discovered the dumpling shop that was still open late."

The boy had always been a fighter since he was little, and that night, he had been bullied to the point of bleeding profusely when he arrived at the dumpling shop.

Upon seeing his beaten and bloodied appearance, the shopkeeper’s eyes gleamed ominously.

The boy didn’t notice and went into the dumpling shop and ordered a bowl of steaming dumplings.

The shopkeeper brought him a very large portion of dumplings, twice as large as a normal serving."

Li Zilan pointed at the bowls of dumplings on the table.

She paused briefly, then continued, "The boy thought the shopkeeper was a good man and thankfully ate up all the dumplings."

"And then, just like the previous boy, he also disappeared."

"Are you trying to say that this is a black shop?"

Josh finally understood.

No matter if it was the dumpling shop that Su Wang or Li Zilan was talking about, it was definitely the shop they were in now.

"What’s going on here?"

Back in the kitchen, the busy shopkeeper, hearing the commotion, hurried out.

His brutish face was smeared with flour, and he looked quite comical.

At first, Josh didn’t think much of the shopkeeper, but now as he stared at his rough appearance, he was beginning to see him as a villain.

He reached out a finger to point at the shopkeeper and was about to flare up.

Li Zilan covered Josh’s mouth and turned her head to chuckle at the shopkeeper, "It’s nothing, the newbie just didn’t understand the rules, we’re teaching him how things work."

The shopkeeper didn’t give it much thought, "Just call me if you need anything, I’m busy chopping dumpling filling in the back."

Su Wang waved at the shopkeeper, "Alright, you go ahead."

Josh forcefully pushed away Li Zilan’s hand, his eyes filled with anger.

"Is this shopkeeper a human trafficker?"

His tone was intense, filled with a hint of murderous intent.

Su Wang, Shen Ran, and Li Zilan exchanged glances.

The three of them couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

This kid was way too naive.

"Ahem..." Shen Ran suppressed his laughter and coughed lightly, then said the familiar opening line to Josh, "Josh, let me tell you one more story."

Josh’s mouth twitched and his face turned slightly angry.

He felt as if he was being treated as a child by the three of them; each of them telling him a story, seemingly enjoying themselves at his expense.

Without waiting for Josh to respond, Shen Ran went straight to the point, "A few years ago, there was a homeless child in West City. He was filthy, and it was impossible to tell whether he was a boy or girl. So, let’s just call him a little beggar."
