Chapter 418 Ruanruan: Don’t let appearances deceive your eyes
Chapter 418: Chapter 418 Ruanruan: Don’t let appearances deceive your eyes
A faint smile spread across Qin Ruan’s face, her gentle voice broke the tense atmosphere. "We apologize for discommoding you both envoys. We believed that this little puppet’s soul was still lingering in the mortal world, therefore we used soul summoning."
Upon seeing Qin Ruan, the faces of the two envoys changed abruptly. They quickly bowed and offered their respects. "We overlooked Miss Qin’s presence, that was negligent of us. As it is Miss Qin handling affairs, we will of course cooperate fully."
From their menacing stance towards Qiao Nanyuan to their completely tailored demeanor before Qin Ruan, they showed a complete change of face.
Standing before them, Qin Ruan greeted with a smile and a slight nod of her head. "Thank you."
"No need for courtesy."
The two envoys withdrew their raised soul-locking chains and stepped aside to give Qin Ruan room.
Behind them, the sharp, ear-piercing screams of the little puppet, baring its teeth and snarling, once again entered everyone’s view.
Qin Ruan frowned as she closely watched this little puppet. It strangely felt familiar.
The thing did not look as if it was merely two years old. Saying it was about seven or eight wouldn’t be too far-fetched.
With Qin Ruan’s gaze upon it for such a long time, the little puppet slowly closed its mouth, no longer letting out its piercing roar.
Its eyes, filled with fear and surprise, stared back at Qin Ruan. The anger in its eyes and the evil qi around it, too, seemed to subside a little.
The little puppet’s dead soul was a strange sight. Its skin seemed too faint, revealing the flesh underneath. The sight was visually shocking.
"It’s you!"
Qin Ruan finally realized why the little puppet seemed familiar.
The child was none other than the little creature which had been painfully transformed by Elder Wu’s offering to the human-faced snake.
After the child was cruelly transformed, it devoured a soul and three spirits and was taken to the Netherworld by the underworld envoys who arrived at that time.
Elder Wu was Master Xu’s disciple. Master Xu was the evil path practitioner who took Xiaobao from Mr. and Mrs. Li.
Everything was connected. Qin Ruan had to face the reality.
The little puppet was summoned by Qiao Nanyuan.
Since it had arrived, it must be the real thing.
This little puppet was Xiaobao, the son of Li Manning.
Qin Ruan pursed her lips, her face slightly solemn. She turned her head back and looked at Li Manning with a complex expression.
Li Manning appeared indifferent, her face revealing a hint of annoyance.
Qin Ruan guessed that Li Manning must not have recognized the little creature as her son Xiaobao.
Not just Li Manning, even Qin Ruan herself was very confused.
Li Manning’s son Xiaobao was just over two years old. How could he have any connection with the seven or eight-year-old looking puppet that was summoned?
Caught by Qin Ruan’s gaze, Li Manning frowned, "What’s wrong?"
She did not understand why Qin Ruan was looking at her with such a sympathetic, pitying gaze.
Qin Ruan stepped aside to let her see the true face of the little puppet, "Li Manning, do you know who this child is?"
Without hesitation, Li Manning shook her head, "I don’t know."
In a deep voice, Qin Ruan said, "Take a closer look, don’t let some outer appearances deceive you."
Li Manning had a bad premonition.
Ignoring the watching eyes of the underworld envoys, she moved next to Qin Ruan to get a closer look at the little puppet caught by the Bind Immortal ropes.
The little puppet’s eyes were dim, a hint of anger flashing in them. When it opened its mouth, it revealed sharp teeth.
Its height was like an average child, but its body exuded a putrid stench of decay.
The skin of its body was thin and faint, revealing the flesh beneath. The clearly visible blood vessels also gave a bizarre feeling, as if this skin had just recently grown.
The seemingly angry little puppet had a blank look in his eyes, appearing somewhat foolish.
Li Manning could not find any trace of Xiaobao in it, no matter how she looked.
However, the little puppet’s subsequent actions thoroughly enraged Li Manning.
Perhaps it was the bond of maternal love that quieted Xiaobao all of a sudden.
His eyes filled with tears, he pouted at Li Manning, looking just like he was about to cry.
"Xiaobao!"
Li Manning’s eyes welled up with rage. Her spirit body shook violently and instantly moved in front of the puppet.
Ignoring the sharp teeth in the puppet’s mouth and the repugnant odor coming from its body, she squatted down and embraced it.
Then, the unexpected happened!
When the puppet was taken into her arms, it stared at Li Manning’s neck and bit down hard.
"Uh!" Li Manning cried out in pain.
Qin Ruan stepped forward, her hand on the puppet’s neck, intending to pull him away.
"Don’t, don’t hurt him!"
Li Manning looked up at Qin Ruan, her eyes begging desperately.
She didn’t know why Xiaobao had changed so drastically to the point where he looked as if he was in a completely new body, even his height had increased substantially.
But she was certain, this was her Xiaobao.
His aggrieved expression, his whimpering gesture for her embrace, and the familiarity in his eyes, which held resentment and hatred towards her.
Ever since Xiaobao’s birth, the time she spent by his side was short-lived.
However, the bond between a mother and her child, their blood connection, is a mark imprinted on the soul.
This was her Xiaobao, her son.
Her eyes had been deceived, not recognizing her own son.
Li Manning’s expression was filled with guilt and heartache for Xiaobao, but anger prevailed.
Qin Ruan’s hand that was on the puppet’s neck slowly moved away.
Taking this opportunity, Li Manning opened Xiaobao’s clothes, revealing his red birthmark, her eyes shed bloody tears.
"Xiaobao, mom’s Xiaobao!"
She cried uncontrollably, tightly hugging the puppet that was biting her neck, her voice full of grief.
"Woo..."
The puppet let go of Li Manning’s neck, issuing pitiful whimpers from his mouth.
Li Manning held him, gently patting his back, "I’m sorry, mom is sorry, it’s all mom’s fault, mom shouldn’t have not recognized you, Xiaobao, my child..."
Xiaobao’s sentiment was pacified, allowing Li Manning to hold him.
He lay on Li Manning’s shoulder, appearing to be obedient to the extreme, just like an ordinary child.
Li Manning raised her bloodshot eyes, her grim, red pupils bloodthirsty and dreadful.
She stared fixedly at Qin Ruan, her tone ominously asking, "Why has Xiaobao turned into this?"
Qin Ruan delicately opened her red lips, "He was transformed into an abominable puppet by the Evil Path, his flesh offered in sacrifice to demons, then merged with a humanoid snake, forged into a weapon of murder."
Embracing Xiaobao’s body, Li Manning’s hands clenched into fists, her face displaying uncontrollable rage and a terrifying expression of bloodlust.
Her wolf-like sharp, blood-red eyes filled with an aura of slaughter, as if ready to erupt the next moment, "Who! Who did this?!"
"The disciples of the Yin Yang Sect, the whole sect is dealing with demons. Xiaobao was turned into a demon after being refined... It was I who killed him by my own hand, and had the Underworld Envoy take him away. His soul wasn’t complete and during the refinement process, one soul and three spirits were devoured."
Qin Ruan revealed to Li Manning the succinct and clear account of what had happened at the Rong Family.
She didn’t conceal the fact that she had killed Xiaobao by her own hand either.
At that time, Xiaobao was no longer human, with no personal consciousness left, merely an unfeeling weapon of murder.
Li Manning stared straight at Qin Ruan, her voice hoarse, "What would have happened if he hadn’t been killed?"
