Chapter 397: Since They Aren’t Afraid of Her, Teach Them Fear

Chapter 397: Chapter 397: Since They Aren’t Afraid of Her, Teach Them Fear

Lu Han stepped forward to enter the room, but Qin Ruan stopped him by grabbing his arm.

She knit her brows, speaking in a deep voice, "Don’t go in."

Lu Han turned towards her, a puzzled look on his face, "What?"

"It’s not clean inside." With that, Qin Ruan entered the room.

Lu Han watched her go in, an eerie chill creeping up his back.

Seeing Madam enter the mortuary, Huo Chuan and Huo Zhi quickly followed.

Behind her, the sound of footsteps reached Qin Ruan’s ears, she retorted without even turning to look, "You both, stay out!"

Huo Chuan and Huo Zhi stopped in their tracks inside the mortuary. They stood by the door, surveying the inside with vigilant eyes.

They were unable to hear the lamentations and horrifying screams of the deceased souls that echoed inside once Qin Ruan entered.

The sounds were piercing, sharp, almost penetrating their hearts.

Qin Ruan’s face remained impassive, her eyes coldly glaring at them.

Among these deceased souls were both men and women. They stared at Qin Ruan as if she were their prey, ready to pounce on her given the chance.

A faint golden light emerged from the depths of Qin Ruan’s eyes, their cold glint washing over the room with a commanding aura, forcing everyone to step back.

The souls which had been eager to strike, perceived an existence that triggered their fear, causing them to scatter and flee.

Qin Ruan, the presence they feared, advanced towards them slowly, at a leisurely pace.

Her Golden Whip materialized in her hands, snapping through the air, exuding a threatening aura.

Every move she made was precise and deadly.

As one of the souls raced towards the door, the Golden Whip in her hand lashed out, pulling the spirit back and throwing it into a corner of the room.

The soul hit the wall like a limp noodle.

The other wandering souls paused, their faces pale and filled with terror as they eyed Qin Ruan.

They were clearly shaken by her display of power.

Qin Ruan stared coldly at these souls while whipping the Golden Whip on the ground.

"Snap!"

The authoritative power of the Golden Whip spread out, the killing aura filling the room.

Like frightened bugs, the souls huddle close to each other, trembling in fear and seeing Qin Ruan as the Soul Envoys of Hell.

A satisfied smile spread on Qin Ruan’s face, her lips parting as she spoke in a deep voice, "No one is escaping this room. If I use my whip, even by accident, your souls could end up obliterated and you’ll regret it."

A distorted female puppet with half her face missing, revealing a bloody pulp where her brain should have been, mustered up the courage to ask Qin Ruan, "Who are you?"

In life, she still wore the clothes she had on, her upper body soaked red with blood, faintly revealing a heart still beating within her chest.

Qin Ruan’s gaze dipped slightly, taking in the gruesome injuries the female puppet had suffered from a car accident prior to her death.

The male and female puppets around her had suffered similarly gruesome injuries, their wounds testifying to the immense pain they endured in life.

Qin Ruan felt no sympathy for them, her deep, frosty gaze swept over each soul, an ironic smirk tugging at her lips.

No one could have guessed these souls were wrap in Evil Qi, denser than anything she had seen around Li Manning’s spirit,

Having been able to carry such dense Black Evil Qi even after death, they surely led lives of wickedness.

Every single soul here was unclean.

Qin Ruan ignored the female puppet’s question, she turned her gaze to Huo Chuan standing at the doorway, "Fetch me a chair, I don’t want to stand."

"It’s ready."

Huo Chuan turned around and dragged out a chair from behind the door.

Just as he was about to step in, Qin Ruan swung her Golden Whip again.

The whip tip hooked onto the chair leg, quickly and steadily bringing it right before Qin Ruan’s view.

Speaking to astonished Lu Han, Huo Chuan, and Huo Zhi who stood at the doorway, Qin Ruan stated, "You all better not come in. If you’re infected by the Puppet Energy, I don’t want to bother cleaning you up. Too troublesome."

Her tone was full of disdain.

"Yes, Madam," echoed Huo Chuan and Huo Zhi.

Looking rather embarrassed, Lu Han recalled his past experiences with puppets and rigidly nodded.

Qin Ruan sat on the chair with her legs crossed, displaying an air of casual dominance.

She cast her icy gaze over the huddling souls, coldly stating, "You don’t need to know who I am, just answer my questions."

"Why should we listen to you? Who the hell are you?" The female puppet from before voiced her protest against Qin Ruan again.

Qin Ruan’s right hand held the grip of the Golden Whip while her slender left fingers pinched the middle of the whip, giving it a gentle tug.

Her eyes shifted toward the female puppet that had spoken, an ice-cold smirk playing upon her lips.

"Tsk," Qin Ruan clicked her tongue.

She wore an uncertain expression, slowly asking in a questionable tone, "By whose rights?"

Her voice was cold and low.

Just as the puppets thought she would introduce herself, Qin Ruan swiftly threw her Golden Whip towards them.

"Snap!"

Danger had come, sending the puppets into a panicked scatter, fleeing in all directions once more.

Even those puppets who attempted to drift quietly away were bound by Qin Ruan’s golden whip, flung into the shadowy corners.

Qin Ruan wasted no words, standing up straight with her aura fully released as she defiantly swung the golden whip in her hand.

The pleasing sound echoed within the morgue.

Qin Ruan answered the female puppet’s question with her actions.

The repeated challenging from these puppets showed that they were still unafraid of her.

She had to beat them into submission, until they learned their lesson, only then would the task that awaited her be smoothly executed.

One of the male puppets wailed with a harrowing cry: "Oh hell! It hurts!!"

Next to him, the female puppet held her own bloodied face, screaming, "Stop it, stop hitting me! My face is falling off!!!"

The screams of the puppets fluctuated: "My arm, don’t step on my arm!!!"

"Who’s stepping on my hand..."

The most hilarious one was a male puppet, his demeanor was fiercely menacing, his eyes almost popping out of his sockets as he roared loudly: "Where’s my brother? Who here has seen my brother?"

Perhaps his emotions were too agitated; Qin Ruan finally halted her attack.

And the other puppets were also drawn to this male puppet, who was in an explosive rage.

They watched as this "big brother," his hands covering an unspeakable area, aggressively search the ground, which was quite entertaining.

A twitch appeared at the corner of Qin Ruan’s lips, her features displaying embarrassment.

The puppet may have passed by, but the rest of the puppets cowered away, as if they were extremely afraid of him.

Soon, the male puppet picked up a bloody chunk of meat from the ground.

Feeling the gaze of the others and Qin Ruan, he silently turned around, fumbled for a while, and then faced Qin Ruan again, his expression cold and displeased.

Even so, he dared not utter a word of blame towards Qin Ruan.

The pain of the golden whip hitting his body was simply too much to bear.

Qin Ruan sat back down in her chair, took a deep breath, and asked in a calm tone, "Why were you still lingering in the Mortal World, instead of having an envoy guiding you to the Netherworld?"

"What envoy? We’ve never seen one!" grumbled the brother-finding male puppet.

The other puppets, standing behind him, seemingly regarded him as the leader.

Qin Ruan raised an eyebrow, her gaze icy, scoffed, "Are you Li Manning’s agent?"

The agent wasn’t too surprised that Qin Ruan knew him, even flaunting a sense of self-satisfaction, "You know me?"

Qin Ruan lowered her gaze and toyed with the golden whip in her hand, answering indifferently: "All the dead were from Li Manning’s studio, and the puppets behind you fear you. It’s not hard to guess your identity."

The agent’s face turned as white as a sheet and contorted slightly, he opened his mouth to say something.

But seeing the golden whip in Qin Ruan’s hand, recalling the pain from her strikes, he closed his mouth slowly.

Qin Ruan reclined casually in her chair, her cool gaze swept effortlessly over all puppets, a smirk played at the corners of her mouth, "Since you guys haven’t met the envoy who could guide you to the Netherworld and are lingering in the Mortal World, it means your karmic transgressions have not been cleared."

The puppets looked at each other, none dared to argue.

Qin Ruan continued, "You all died because of Li Manning. I won’t grill each one of you about what you did to her. If you confess everything willingly, I’ll send you to the Netherworld."

The female puppet who had asked Qin Ruan about her identity earlier, blurted out with surprise, "Really?!"

Qin Ruan gave a slight nod, "I never go back on my word."

The female puppet stepped forward immediately, raising her hand, her voice urgent, "Then I’ll go first!"

Qin Ruan tipped her chin slightly to show she was listening.

The female puppet frowned, venting resentment with the half of her face that still remained, "I didn’t do anything wrong towards Sister Manning, just one time she wanted to go out to see her child, but I didn’t allow it.

Mr. Li and Mrs. Li had instructed me never to let Sister Manning run off, otherwise I would lose my salary and they would ruin my reputation in Capital City!"

"Child?" Qin Ruan’s eyes widened slightly.

Even though she didn’t pay much attention to Li Manning, she was well aware that Li had never been married.

The female puppet nodded firmly, bits of her brain occasionally falling onto the ground, a horrifying sight.

She sneered, expressing disgust, "That’s right, Sister Manning had a son with another man."

While she called Li "Sister Manning," her words clearly revealed her contempt for Li.

Qin Ruan narrowed her eyes, asking her, "Anything else?"

The female puppet shook her head, "That’s all. I just stopped her from going out once, but she killed me. I will never let it rest, and I would demand justice in the Netherworld!"

"Good luck with that!" Qin Ruan waved at the female puppet, signaling her to step aside.

Her penetrating dark eyes swept over the remaining puppets, "Who’s next?"

"Me!"

A male puppet floated forward, looking rather timid, shying away in fear.

His voice trembled, "I ... I was ordered by Mr. Li, Mrs. Li and Brother Zhao to help tie Sister Manning to the bed, making her unable to leave home."

Qin Ruan squinted, "Why did they tie her up?"

The male puppet glanced at the agent, swallowed his saliva instinctively at the sight of the agent’s severe eyes, and rasped, "I really don’t know the reason. I was just following the orders of Mr. Li, Mrs. Li, and Brother Zhao."

He pointed a finger at the agent, "Many things remain a mystery to me. Brother Zhao, who has been with Sister Manning for more than ten years, knows much more than our underlings."

So the agent’s surname was Zhao. Qin Ruan’s gaze rested on him.

It couldn’t be denied that among the numerous spirits, only Zhao, the agent, was surrounded by a black evil energy vaguely tinged with red.
