Chapter 1231: Chapter 1231: The Emperor Arrives: Aruan, You’re Not Being Good
Huo Yao, Huo Anqi, and Anuan were all stunned.
By the time they snapped back to their senses, Qin Ruan had already disappeared without a trace.
Anuan suddenly cried out in horror, "I don’t want a stepdad! Quick! Go and inform our dad, he must stop mom from looking for love again!"
She was mussing her long hair with both hands, her entire being enshrouded in a terrifying gloom.
Things had gotten out of hand!
She had never imagined that her mom would be looking for a second or third shot at love.
Thinking about her mom holding hands with a strange man, and having to call that person stepdad sent her into a tizzy.
Huo Yao and Huo Anqi were also a bit bamboozled by Qin Ruan’s move.
The three kids were in a state of complete disarray, subconsciously going to tattle again.
Yejue Bar.
Qin Ruan arrived at the bar and immediately drew the attention of countless men and women. She went to the bar in the center and ordered a fruit drink.
Her striking looks and unique aura attracted people just as they had in her youth, soon drawing in men and women alike who approached to chat. They invited her to leave the premises for a "life discussion," desiring a deeper conversation.
There were also those with better manners who aimed to poach the dazzling bloom that was Qin Ruan by slowly turning up the heat, like warming a frog in water.
Unfortunately, none of them succeeded.
Qin Ruan intended to draw out the Emperor and had no wish to make anyone jealous. Their ten lifetimes together had not been easy, and there was no need for further complications.
Without the guidance of the Emperor from Feidu City Purgatory, she would not have been able to approach on her own, which was why she insisted on using the children to ensure a meeting.
Qin Ruan, sitting at the bar, sipped her fruit drink, calculating the time for the Emperor to arrive as she waited.
Her visit today was ill-timed as Su Jingshu rarely brought people to her own establishment, but she happened to see Qin Ruan from upstairs.
Ever since the death of Huo’s third master sixteen years ago, Qin Ruan had been a rare sight outside of the Huo Group’s shareholders’ meetings and some important Cabinet meetings.
Su Jingshu, who was now nearly fifty but well-maintained to appear around thirty, seemed lacking in presence compared to Qin Ruan downstairs.
She observed the still-beautiful Qin Ruan and mused whether the woman may have been eating preservatives; so many years had gone by without leaving a trace of age on her.
Who could imagine that this was a mother with grown children?
Su Jingshu gestured to her subordinates, whispering a few instructions before descending the stairs with calm and graceful steps.
Through the years, she had acquired an even more pronounced air of literacy, losing some of the impulsivity of her youth and softening her harshness, looking every bit the part of an aristocratic lady.
Those who didn’t know her would never guess that this literary woman was the decisive Family Head of the Su Family.
Over the years, she had helped the Su Family secure an increasingly steady position; thanks to her efforts, even unworthy descendants could sleep easy for a century.
One-third of Qin Ruan’s fruit drink was gone when someone took a seat beside her uninvited; she didn’t even glance their way as she said coldly, "I’m waiting for someone; your seat is taken."
Su Jingshu, who had just sat beside her, chuckled lightly, "Madam Huo, it’s been a long time. What brings you to my place today?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Qin Ruan turned her head, her normally frosty eyes suddenly twinkling with a touch of mirth.
"So it’s Madam Su herself. We just met last month, and you seem to be faring quite well. With your achievements in recent years, a place in the Cabinet for you seems imminent."
Su Jingshu ordered a drink from the bartender and raised her glass to Qin Ruan, a hint of laughter spilling from her eyes creased with faint wrinkles, "I can’t rival your influence in the Cabinet. Over the years, so many have regretted their misjudgment, all outplayed by you."
When Qin Ruan first joined the Cabinet, many people considered her inconsequential, believing she was just going through the motions.
Later, they learned of this woman’s ruthless and brutal tactics, she was crude yet swift and decisive.
By the time everyone realized what had happened, it was already too late. They would regret it for the rest of their lives.
Actually, if you really thought about it, Su Jingshu and Qin Ruan were similar people, except when it came to their understanding of emotions—they were incomparable.
Qin Ruan also raised her glass towards Su Jingshu. With nothing better to do, they began to talk about some recent inconsequential matters within the Cabinet.
Under the dim lights of the bar, Qin Ruan propped her chin and studied Su Jingshu’s mature grace, then suddenly asked, "After all these years, are you still looking for him?"
Both knew exactly who ’he’ was.
Nangong Chang had once appeared in the bar, and Su Jingshu had frantically searched for him, including the child who was once held in Nangong Chang’s arms.
No longer as crazed as she had been over a decade ago, Su Jingshu’s expression froze momentarily, then she replied with a gentle smile, "Searching, of course. How could I not?"
Pity surfaced in Qin Ruan’s eyes. She thought, no matter how much you turn the Human Realm upside down, you’ll never find Nangong Chang. He has long since returned to the Dragon Clan with her brother.
However, looking at Su Jingshu’s features, Qin Ruan’s red lips parted, speaking in a significant tone, "It’s not easy for one to persist in something for so many years. Maybe your persistence will yield an unexpected reward."
Su Jingshu welcomed these words, raising her glass again towards Qin Ruan, the smile reaching the depths of her eyes.
She said, "Then I’ll take your auspicious words."
Just as Su Jingshu brought the glass to her lips, her vision darkened. A tall man in a black robe, with long hair draped loosely, embraced Qin Ruan from behind.
"Aruan, you’re not being good."
A low, magnetic, and pleasant voice rang out.
Upon seeing this person, Su Jingshu could no longer maintain her composed expression. Her eyes widened, staring at him.
Qin Ruan, with her back to Huo Yunjiao, suddenly found her eyes moistening.
Her lips curved into a smile as she restrained her voice, "Third Master, you’ve finally come. I’ve been waiting for you for so long."
She had waited sixteen years.
Since she entered the bar, it had been forty-three minutes and fifty-eight seconds.
This fleeting time made her feel as if years had passed.
Sensing the stifled sob in her throat, Huo Yunjiao held her tightly in his embrace and gave a tender kiss to her temple.
His soft voice was filled with apology, "These sixteen years have been hard on Aruan, but you shouldn’t have come here, causing the children to misunderstand."
What sort of person was the Emperor? He could not be fooled by Qin Ruan’s little tricks, yet knowing this, he still hurried over despite his injuries.
It took a while for Su Jingshu to regain her own voice, trembling, she said, "You, you’re the Third Master?!"
Huo Yunjiao narrowed his eyes, gave Su Jingshu a sidelong glance, and placed his index finger to his lips, gesturing her to be quiet.
She immediately closed her mouth.
Huo Yunjiao covered Qin Ruan with his black robe, and in the astonished gaze of Su Jingshu, they vanished from the spot in the blink of an eye.
In the noisy and bustling Yejue Bar, the scene did not attract much attention. Only a few noticed that the stunning beauty who had been sitting at the bar was no longer there.
Su Jingshu sat foolishly at the bar, utterly stiff. What just happened left her struggling to recover for a long time.
