Chapter 1173: Chapter 1173: Qin Mei Heartbrokenly Reports Trouble Caused by Two Cubs
Qin Jingcen’s smile was gentle, and he warned his two nephews in a low voice, "Haven’t you seen your mother’s belly grow bigger by the day? Charging over like that, aren’t you afraid of hurting your mother and sister?"
Huo Yao and Huo Anqi blinked their large eyes that perfectly combined their parents’ features.
They hadn’t seen their mother for several days and had somehow forgotten about the sister in her belly.
Qin Ruan stepped forward, ruffled the two boys’ hair, and said to Qin Jingcen, "Ayao and Anqi are still so young, even if they did bump into me, I’m not that fragile."
Qin Jingcen glanced at her displeasedly and said, "You’re just spoiling them."
Huo Yao, with his small hand tugging at Qin Ruan’s fingers, looked at her with a pitiful expression and said, "Mom, I’ve missed you so much."
The child expressed his longing so sincerely that Qin Ruan’s heart melted completely.
She took her eldest son from her older brother’s arms, kissed his forehead, and said with a smile, "Good boy."
Seeing Huo Anqi looking at her eagerly as well, Qin Ruan put Huo Yao down to stand properly, and hugged her younger son, kissing his forehead too, and praised, "Anqi is also a good boy."
Compared to Huo Yao’s radiant little face after being picked up and kissed, Huo Anqi’s expression was calm and composed, with only his ears betraying a blush that he couldn’t hide.
He grabbed a lock of Qin Ruan’s hair with his little hand and looked over her shoulder, only to see Huo Zhi and the Hidden Guard; he didn’t see another close relative who had promised to come to pick them up.
Huo Yao asked with confusion, "Mom, where’s father?"
"There’s business at the company, he’s gone to take care of it. We’ll pick him up on the way home."
Qin Ruan, after all, was pregnant, and holding Huo Anqi like that, her body felt some discomfort, like a sourness in her waist that made it hard to bear.
Seeing a change in his sister’s complexion, Qin Jingcen took Huo Anqi from her and also picked up the pitiful-looking eldest nephew who stood on the ground.
He held both children with no effort, and in a casual tone, asked Qin Ruan, "Will you stay for lunch?"
Qin Ruan, without hesitation, directly declined, "No, I have things to do today."
She was still concerned about the Buddha Beads that Third Master had left at the company and wanted to see them with her own eyes to be reassured.
The indifference on Qin Jingcen’s face dispersed, revealing a look of regret.
The approaching Qin Mei complained dissatisfiedly, "It’s rare for you to come by, and you won’t even stay for a meal. Is the food at the Huo Family that much more delicious?"
The second young master of the Qin Family was blunt in front of his family members, never knowing what it meant to conceal his feelings.
Seeing his angry demeanor, Qin Jingcen didn’t scold him. In fact, he harbored the same thoughts as his younger brother.
Knowing his sister would come to pick up the children today, he had specifically instructed the kitchen to prepare ingredients for tomato beef stew, planning to cook himself, but now it seemed they wouldn’t be needed.
Qin Ruan could not fail to notice her brothers’ displeasure and explained with a light laugh, "It’s rare for Third Master to go to the company, and I have something I need to clarify with him. Also, there have been frequent homicides in the Capital City lately, so I plan to investigate that."
This decision was made on the spot.
With homicides happening right under her watch, she couldn’t just ignore them.
Qin Jingcen recalled the news he had heard over the past month and furrowed his brows, asking, "I’ve heard about the homicides. The victim of the first case had done business with the Qin Group, and there’s still no lead on that case?"
Qin Ruan hadn’t expected the deceased to have such an identity, "Not yet, the matter is quite thorny."
Qin Jingcen, aware of his sister’s abilities, knew that a routine homicide wouldn’t interest her at all. Hearing her describe it as thorny, he couldn’t help speculating, "Could it be a supernatural case?"
Qin Ruan’s face showed surprise, "Big brother doesn’t know?"
She had thought that this matter was common knowledge, given the details discussed in the WeChat group.
Qin Jingcen shook his head, "I only know some information because the company had a collaboration with the first victim. However, I’m not very clear on the specifics. Later, I heard discussions of several more homicides with a modus operandi similar to that of our partner’s death.
The details about this case have been tightly concealed; it’s hard to catch wind of anything, let alone understand the intricacies of the case. But everyone is guessing it’s a case of killing for money."
If it really were a simple case of killing for money, the criminal would be caught before long.
Qin Ruan met Qin Jingcen and Qin Mei’s eager eyes and her red lips parted slightly, "It’s a vampire."
Qin Jingcen’s expression grew solemn, "So it really is a supernatural case."
Qin Mei let out a shriek, "The Rasambo Family?"
He was still shrouded in the shadow of being terrorized by a vampire, Donald Rasambo, last year.
When his sister mentioned vampires, his mind raced first to that family.
"We can’t be sure for the moment," Qin Ruan hadn’t started her investigation yet to give a definitive answer, then quickly urged, "Be careful when you go out these days, and call me if anything happens."
Qin Jingcen lowered his gaze, looking at his sister with her pregnant belly still worrying about the family, and promised, "The company isn’t busy lately, Amei and I won’t go out."
Qin Ruan nodded in satisfaction and surveyed the hall, "Where’s dad?"
Qin Jingcen set the nephews down on the couch and went to sort the little ones’ backpacks, "He’s gone traveling with some friends, getting more and more fond of going out as he gets older."
"As long as he enjoys himself, it’s good for him to relax, beneficial to his health."
"Indeed, dad’s mindset has become much younger lately."
Listening to the brother and sister converse, Qin Mei sidled up to Qin Ruan and lowered his voice to tattle, "Little sis, Ayao and Anqi have been causing no end of trouble these past few days. Just last night, while taking them to dinner at a restaurant, Ayao actually pulled a gun out of his backpack. It looked so small and exquisite, like a toy, but then a little flick of his hand and a gunshot echoed through the whole room.
The restaurant manager rushed over following the sound and almost called the police. If it wasn’t for the Hidden Guards from the Huo Family following us, the Qin Family wouldn’t have been able to smooth things over. Good grief, you have no idea how pale the restaurant manager turned, and how shocked Big Bro and I were."
As if unable to see his sister’s face darken, Qin Mei continued to complain, "Do you remember the Teddy that the owners next door keep? The very first day Ayao and Anqi arrived, they caught the poor thing and shaved off all its fur.
It wasn’t very good-looking to begin with, but after being shorn it looked even more pitiable. The poor pet’s owner almost abandoned it, turning it into a stray."
Qin Mei recalled how the owner of the Teddy looked at the pitiful sight of the dog with disdain, hesitating between abandoning it or not.
If it hadn’t been for his persuasive tongue, claiming that pets regrow more beautiful fur after being shaved and saying it would turn heads when out for walks, the owner might have actually abandoned the poor thing.
The shaved Teddy was indeed so ugly it was unbearable to look at.
Qin Mei couldn’t understand his two nephews’ sense of aesthetics, having turned a perfectly good dog into such an eyesore.
He sighed softly and continued mournfully, "You didn’t see Xueqiu today, did you? She’s run away from home. I used to tease the little guy, and it would just sulk with me, but it never ran away before.
Ayao and Anqi almost plucked her snowy white fur clean. I don’t know how they bullied my Xueqiu, but the first couple of days, hearing Xueqiu’s shrieks made my heart tremble."
