Chapter 1003: Chapter 1003: If Third Master doesn’t come soon, a wild man will really steal her away
Qin Ruan must have said something to Liao Yu. She looked at Qin Mei with a nostalgic gaze and waved him over, "Second Young Master, can I have a word with you?"
Qin Mei, hugging Xueqiu, walked over with trepidation.
He was not afraid of Liao Yu; it was the two Underworld Envoys floating behind her that made his heart shudder.
Liao Yu slowly floated in front of Qin Mei, her voice soft, "Tell your brother for me, I am thankful for all these years. If he hadn’t given me a chance at the Qin Group due to our schoolmate bond, I wouldn’t have enjoyed ten glorious years before my death, everywhere I went people would respectfully call me ’Secretary Liao’."
If it hadn’t been for her encountering Qi Ling, a man who succumbed to temptations too much after stepping into society, and turned into a scumbag without her realizing it, she wouldn’t have died unjustly at the young age of thirty.
In her life, the person she was most grateful to was her junior, Qin Jingcen.
Over a decade of companionship had turned their schoolmate bond into something more, as they became each other’s confidants.
Qin Mei was touched by her words, his face showing compassion as he turned his head and said in a low voice, "Sister Liao Yu, don’t talk like that. Big brother always said that your competence was evident to everyone in the company, even men couldn’t match up to you."
Liao Yu, upon being praised, had an even brighter and more beautiful smile on her face.
She tilted her head to observe Qin Mei, fond of this sight of him. Even though he was a mischievous young master, in front of her he was like a younger brother, displaying a naive and obedient demeanor.
She reached out her hand, wanting to tap Qin Mei’s head as she usually did, but seeing the thick dark aura coating her hand, she halted it in mid-air.
Liao Yu pulled back her hand, disappointment flashing in her eyes as she spoke indifferently, "There are many more capable than me, I am well aware of that, just pass my message along, that’s all."
Qin Mei, hearing the downcast tone in her voice, nodded earnestly, "I will."
Liao Yu added, "In this life, being able to meet people from the Qin Family is my good fortune. I will pray for your family from below."
Qin Mei quickly waved his hands, "Don’t, Sister Liao Yu, let’s not make it so formal, it’s not such a great favor."
Liao Yu: "To me, it is a great favor."
During their dispute, the eerie voice of the Underworld Envoy rang out, "It’s time to go."
Liao Yu’s soul uncontrollably drifted backward. She waved to Qin Ruan and Qin Mei, her eyes shifting from relief to regret.
Qin Mei, with Xueqiu in his arms, walked back to where Qin Ruan stood, as they both watched the Underworld Envoys escort Liao Yu away.
As for Qi Ling, who was dragged along by the Soul-locking Chain like a dog, nobody paid any attention to him.
As the Underworld Envoys left with Liao Yu, the chill of the night air returned to normal, no longer cold and eerie.
The mechanical buzzing from the operation of the drones’ motors filled the air high above, along with the slight noise from the rotary blades, reaching the ears of the three people standing in the middle of the mountain road.
Qin Mei looked up at the drone blinking red in the high sky and then turned back to Yin Tianlin, "Is this yours?"
"Hmm—"
Yin Tianlin responded with a nasal hum, his eyes sparkling in the dark night, staring intently at Qin Ruan.
That look seemed to scream he wanted to possess her.
Qin Ruan, extremely sensitive to the profound gazes of others, caught on immediately and followed the line of sight.
Locking eyes with Yin Tianlin’s repressed and emotional gaze, Qin Ruan furrowed her brows in confusion.
Then her face revealed surprise, and a look of amused resignation flashed through her eyes.
The starting line of the mountain road race.
Ahui and the others stared at their phone screens, confused why all three had gotten out of their cars mid-race.
Someone beside him asked with concern, "Ahui, what’s going on?"
"Why did Brother Lin get out of the car?"
"Could it be that the siblings are planning to fight?"
Ahui’s eyebrows knotted with suspicion, "That can’t be, Brother Lin has taken a liking to that girl and wants to pursue her."
"What?!"
"Damn!"
Those around him exploded in shock.
They could not have imagined that Yin Tianlin, as hard to approach as an iron tree, would fall for a girl at first sight.
Yin Tianlin, as the nephew of the Family Head of the Fu Family and the close cousin of the Fu Family’s eldest son, had a line of high-society ladies chasing after him in the south, yet he never spared those women a second glance. But here in Capital City, he took a fancy to a girl without a name or a background.
One of the men asked, "Ahui, are you joking?"
"Crap, they are moving!"
Ahui’s eyes were glued to the phone screen.
Seeing that Yin Tianlin wasn’t in a good state of mind and fearing something might go wrong if the race continued, Qin Ruan stepped forward and asked, "Are you okay?"
"I’m fine," Yin Tianlin shook his head and asked uncertainly, "What were you just doing?"
Qin Mei interjected, "We told you, we were communicating with the Puppet. Kid, if you’re scared, let’s schedule another day to avoid claims of us bullying."
When Qin Mei said this, he was also considering the other party’s feelings.
Knowing how terrified he had been the first time he encountered the Puppet, if Yin Tianlin continued to race and something really went wrong, he wouldn’t be able to escape a beating from both his father and elder brother.
Yin Tianlin wiped his face, the expression upon it quite unsightly, his eyes trembling as he looked at Qin Ruan, "There really was a Puppet?"
Qin Mei stroked the cat in his arms, his face full of tease, "You just saw it with your own eyes, didn’t you?"
Thinking of his cousin’s experiences over the years, Yin Tianlin felt uneasy inside and began to doubt the identities of the siblings in front of him.
His expression turned solemn, and he asked in a deep voice, "Who exactly are you?"
Qin Ruan chuckled softly, "Before asking us who we are, shouldn’t you introduce yourself first?"
Yin Tianlin pursed his lips and said directly, "My surname is Yin, named Tianlin, and I am a relative of the Fu Family."
The Fu Family in the south is one of the top families, and even in Capital City, they have some foundation. Anyone from the upper echelons would undoubtedly know of them.
He suspected that this pair of siblings might not be well aware.
With a faint movement of her eyebrows, Qin Ruan asked, "And what is Fu Yinru to you?"
Yin Tianlin rarely heard others call his elder cousin by name. Dark shadows passed through his eyes as he truthfully said, "He is my elder cousin."
Qin Mei laughed upon hearing this, "So you’re related to that family."
The Fu Family, a part of the Aristocratic Families who had entered Capital City last year, still couldn’t compare to the power that the Huo Family wielded in Capital City, despite being Aristocratic Family members themselves.
Qin Ruan gave Qin Mei a signal with her eyes. Reluctantly, he shuffled over to Yin Tianlin’s side with a moue.
He extended his hand with a patronizing tone, "I’m called Qin Mei, not from any reputable lineage—perhaps you don’t know the Qin Group, but you definitely would have heard of Baorui Gold, which is mine."
Learning their identity, Yin Tianlin felt a wave of relief. As long as they weren’t from one of Capital City’s four major families, he saw a chance in pursuing Qin Ruan.
A friendly yet somewhat stiff smile appeared on his face as he shook Qin Mei’s extended hand, "So it’s Young Master Qin and Miss Qin, a pleasure to meet you."
Qin Ruan noticed the fleeting joy that lingered at the bottom of Yin Tianlin’s eyes when he had looked at her earlier. Her tone was indifferent, "Don’t call me Miss Qin. I’m already married and have two kids."
Yin Tianlin’s expression cracked, and his grip on Qin Mei’s hand involuntarily tightened.
"Hey, it hurts! That hurts! Let go!"
Qin Mei yelped, his hand being squeezed.
Yin Tianlin snapped back to the present and flung his hand away as if tossing aside a virus.
"You’re married? And have children?!"
Qin Ruan playfully flicked her ponytail, her hair resting on her left shoulder. Pinching the tip with her fingers, she looked up nonchalantly at the drone drawing closer in the low sky, "Mr. Yin seems quite curious about my marriage, doesn’t he?"
Her eyes gently lowered, gazing directly at Yin Tianlin with a cool and calm expression.
Yin Tianlin, with a stunned look, said, "You don’t seem like someone who’s married."
A faint smile appeared in Qin Ruan’s eyes, her lashes trembling softly with her laughter, "Thank you for the compliment, but the fact is I am married and have two lovely sons."
"What the heck!"
Qin Mei suddenly cursed amid their conversation.
Even he could tell—Yin Tianlin was clearly interested in his sister.
Thinking of this man’s intent towards Qin Ruan made Qin Mei lose his temper completely.
His face turned steely as he stood in front of Qin Ruan, his look displeased and his gaze darkly fixed on Yin Tianlin.
"I said you looked a bit off, kid, now I see what you’re aiming for. Dream on, boy. Even if my sister wasn’t married, she’d be way out of your league!"
Yin Tianlin’s brooding eyes coldly met Qin Mei’s, arrogantly asserting, "So what if she’s married? Divorce is still an option."
His finger pointed towards Qin Ruan, his voice softening slightly, "As long as your sister is willing, I would use the full might of my family to take her as my wife, making her the envied Mrs. Yin."
"Pfft!" Qin Mei, who had been scowling, couldn’t help but laugh at Yin Tianlin’s declaration.
Even Qin Ruan couldn’t suppress her amusement, touching her nose with her index finger to hide the smile on her face.
At her laughter, Yin Tianlin was mesmerized.
He licked his lips unconsciously, not understanding why, but from the first glance at Qin Ruan, he found her to be exceptional. She was neither as delicate as the socialites from the south nor as arrogant as the daughters of the Aristocratic Families.
She was like a noble cat—although her body language screamed defiance, she cleverly hid her aggression behind a guise of obedience, her claws concealed from sight.
He liked such a woman and wanted to possess her.
At the starting line of the winding mountain road, Ahui and others kept lowering the drone, finally catching the trio’s conversation.
Hearing Yin Tianlin’s brazen declaration, everyone was flabbergasted.
It wasn’t easy for Brother Lin to take a fancy to a woman, and now she’s already married with children—could his luck be any worse?
Someone mocked disdainfully, "Turns out she’s second-hand. Brother Lin has to give up now."
Ahui kicked the speaker, speaking coldly, "Watch your mouth. Didn’t you hear Brother Lin say to wait until that woman gets divorced?"
The one who got kicked didn’t protest, just laughed and approached, "Really? Even if she’s a twice-married woman, Brother Lin still wants her?"
"It looks like Brother Lin is serious this time, so all of you better keep your mouths clean."
"Got it, got it, lower the drone a bit more."
"I heard you, stop pushing me..."
The conversation of this group reached Huo Zhi and the others clearly.
One of the Hidden Guards showed a look of forbearance.
Huo Zhi’s icy gaze fell on this group of clueless young men and women. Her lightly pursed lips curled into a mock smile.
She glanced at the time; nearly half an hour had passed, and her master had yet to arrive.
If the master didn’t show up soon, this wild man might indeed steal a march on her.
Suddenly, several bright headlights loomed into view.
The intense glare of the lights swept across all those standing at the starting line.
