Chapter 953: Chapter 70: Splendor in the Dark

Tonight, under Pannis’s instigation, the Winged people twins Maya and Tiya also drank quite a bit of alcohol. Although both were demigods with stronger constitutions than ordinary people, their resistance to alcohol often did not correspond directly to their physical strength. By now, their identical little faces had already become flushed red, and even walking was staggered and unstable. As soon as Flare’s music and singing began, the dazed twin girls felt as if they had returned to their adventurous life from a century ago and subconsciously flew into the sky. Along with the melody, they soared and commenced the most famous Sky Dance of the Yarran World.

The Winged people are the children of the sky, the favorites of both light and darkness. They dwell in the Feather Mountain Range, the highest peaks of the Yarran World and the place closest to the light. Within Feather Mountain Range, whenever the sun rises, countless Winged people would fly out of the cave homes on the mountain top. Against the backdrop of fire-red dawn, they’d dance gracefully towards the sunlight, their dance moves praising both the light and the darkness. The newborn sun sprinkled sunlight on pairs of white or pitch-black wings, adding a dazzling array of colors to their dance moves. This dance, celebrating both darkness and light, known as the Sky Dance or the Dance of Light and Darkness, is beautiful and splendid, making it coveted by all in the Yarran World. However, the Winged people were few in number, and being children of the sky, they were free-spirited and unrestrained. The sky and mountain peaks were their world; thus, few could ever witness this dance, only heard in legends, even leaders of various powers included. Nobody expected that on this night of the festival, a large crowd would actually experience the beautiful Sky Dance.

It wasn’t just Maya and Tiya who started the Sky Dance; the Winged people had not only brought the symbolic Light and Dark Twins as their representatives to the multi-party conference but had also brought five other representatives from their tribe. After the parade started this evening, these five representatives, curious about the lively celebration, flew out of their accommodations and joined the parade aloft. When Maya and Tiya began their dance in the sky, the five Winged people representatives spotted the two girls dancing spiritedly with the aid of alcohol; however, they had no intention of stopping the actions of the Light and Dark Twins. The unrestrained Winged people cared little for their own image, pursuing only freedom and joy. Since there was singing to accompany them, dancing was a joyful act, and so within a minute, the number of people dancing in the air increased from two to seven, making the dance that became more beautiful as more joined even more enchanting.

The dance of the Winged people created an effect beyond imagination; more and more people gathered here, following the adventure team and several demigods, slowly moving forward. Not only local residents but also many important members of foreign nations and factions attending the conference were drawn by the singing and dancing, gathering together and treating the group of dancing high-ranking professionals as role models. They set aside their initial reserve and psychological barriers, happily mingling without reservations. It could be said that the girls’ drunken antics unexpectedly resolved one of the biggest upcoming issues of the conference, allowing these representatives of powers soon to collaborate to truly bridge their differences and discuss important issues more openly in future meetings.

As the crowd grew, the frolics of the Winged people twins intensified, and their childlike natures only heightened their excitement as more people watched. By the time Flare’s singing ended and a Dance of Sky wrapped up, the twin sisters didn’t feel fully satisfied. They staggered through the sky for a few more rounds as if suddenly struck by a thought, they exchanged glances and giggled silly before suddenly splitting from each other, one flying higher and the other lower.

The dark-winged Tiya, flying lower, closed her eyes in mid-air and stretched out her limbs. A strange energy began radiating from her, spreading outward and gradually covering a large area of the city. Only when the energy had expanded to a certain extent did Tiya abruptly open her eyes, her voice clear as a mountain spring as she intoned, "The divine say, darkness is eternal, all is conceived in darkness, and all will eventually return to darkness. Praise to the lord of darkness, Your words are the truth of this world."

With Tiya’s chanting, darkness fell without warning, a thick darkness shrouding the sky and swallowing the glow of the sisters of moonlight, even the pre-existing lights on the ground dimmed significantly. However, despite the environment becoming dimmer, there wasn’t much disturbance among the crowd; after all, the complete darkness was only in the sky. The ground, though less illuminated, was still faintly visible, so it didn’t cause chaos or tragedy.

Tiya had completed her task. With a fold of her wings, she vanished into the darkness of the sky and reappeared circling beside her sister. It was now Maya’s turn to anchor herself in midair, her arms stretching upward to embrace the heavens as she began chanting with the same voice as her sister, "God said that light is hope, everything is born with light, praise the Lord of Light, your will is the power that changes my world."

In the chant of Maya, bright, large flashes lit up the vast sky. Since the dark curtain had veiled the light, the flashes were especially conspicuous. As these orbs exploded in the sky, under Maya’s control, they twisted into various shapes, which were, strikingly, the same shapes of the sculptures on top of the carriages on the ground. The waves of admiration from below delighted Maya even more, and she continuously released orbs of light, reproducing each carriage’s sculpture in the sky against the dark curtain, recreating an ancient legend.

It was only when Maya finally had her fill, ceasing to create new flashes of light, and as the story of the legend neared its end, did the citizens below, indifferent to their sore necks, gaze up mesmerized at the sculptures of light in the darkness. This was their first time experiencing the local legends in such a manner, filling them with excitement.

Almost everyone was looking up at the sky, so no one noticed that Flare had, at some point, fully drawn her hunting bow. An arrow rested on the bowstring, poised to pierce the sky.

The jubilant sisters, Tiya and Maya, took a final few circles in the sky, waved at the other members of their race, and then the seven Winged people folded their wings and descended back to the ground. Meanwhile, Flare’s arrow flew from the string, soaring into the sky, unexpectedly splitting into hundreds of arrows of light. Each arrow rose to its maximum range and then burst into countless brilliant points of light within the dark curtain, resembling a spectacular fireworks display.

This dazzling scene ignited the atmosphere of the entire visible area, plunging half the city into cheers. (To be continued.
