Chapter 943: Chapter 60: The Pannis-style Comfort
"Why are you looking at me like that?" As soon as Lina woke up, she saw Pannis eyeing her up and down with a very strange look, his eyes wide as if observing some bizarre creature. Due to the convenience of her position, Lina couldn’t help but raise her hand and poke his ideally positioned eyes, teasing, "Are you staring at me like this because your ’pervert spirit’ has intensified?"
"Ow~~~" Pannis screamed, jumping up and covering his eyes, annoyed, he said, "You jerk, I haven’t even done anything yet and you just poked my eyes, damn, that really hurts, and also, how am I a pervert? Don’t slander others so casually, that’s very unethical, wuu wuu wuu, I’m going blind, I can’t see, it hurts so much."
"Does it really hurt that much?" Lina bit her lip, apologetically and said, "Move your hand, let me see if it’s hurt."
"Of course it does." Pannis slowly removed his hand, and although his eyes clearly had no problems, not even redness, he still pathetically pointed at his eyes and said, "Look, they’re swelling up."
"Let me see, oh, they really are swollen." Lina leaned closer to Pannis’s face, then suddenly extended her finger and poked again, "If they’re not swollen, I’ll just poke them until they are, I poke."
"Hah, too naive, the same trick won’t work on me a second time." Pannis quickly blocked her finger attack with his hand, his face was arrogantly laughing as he said, "You won’t poke me again, ow~~~"
"Idiot." Lina drew back the foot she had kicked into Pannis’s shin, scoffed and said, "What were they telling you just now? Keeping it all mysterious and hiding it from me, really, they must have been talking about me behind my back."
"You, even when everything is settled you are still acting all crazy." Pannis hugged his shin and hopped around on one leg, grinding his teeth and said, "Just you wait, one day I’ll get my revenge, ouch, my leg is already broken."
"Pfft." Pannis’s exaggerated performance made the priestess burst into laughter, she glanced at him annoyedly and said, "Stop fooling around, tell me, what exactly did they say? Keeping it all secretive."
"Actually, they didn’t say anything important," Pannis finally put his leg down, scratched his head and shook it as he said, "They just explained to me about the unique way they exist, yeah, a very interesting existence, never even mentioned in the legends. Perhaps, in the special world they described, they are some sort of deity."
"Is that all?" Lina looked up at the sky and squinted at Pannis with suspicion, "There’s no more to it? It can’t be this simple. So much time has passed; I don’t believe that’s all there was."
"Uh... actually, there was something else. Like, there was this little priest who lived alone in the library. One day, a book wasn’t put back properly and, in the middle of the night, it fell down, making a loud noise, and... the little priest wet the bed... Hey, this is murder!" Before Pannis could finish speaking, he narrowly dodged an incoming hammer and turned to run without looking back, shouting, "You’re trying to kill and silence me! Your evil plan will not succeed! No matter how you try to hide it, the truth and the facts will always come to light. Even if you kill me, you won’t cover it up. Help, murder!"
So, in the solemn grand chapel of The Church of the Earth Goddess, within the Holy Sanctuary of the ancient and great Deity Denia, countless passing clergy watched with wooden expressions as two figures chased each other before their eyes, as if a murder might happen at any moment. The young apprentices felt it particularly unfair because they noticed that Archbishop Margaret, who was severe and unforgiving, harsh to anyone’s mistake and demonic in the children’s eyes, showed no sign of reprimand towards the two obviously disruptive individuals who were making a ruckus in this solemn place. She even wore a slight smile of delight. However, to avoid double homework as punishment tomorrow, these smart apprentices chose to keep quiet, knowing that even the most honest clergy suffer from lack of sleep with doubled assignments.
Watching from afar, the old Archbishop Margaret was pleased to see Lina chasing Pannis so energetically, and Cain was happy too; in their eyes, the lively, adorable, and energetic Helena had finally come back. Although she was now perhaps a bit too... well, excessive, it was nonetheless a good start.
"You stop right there, I promise not to kill you," Lina gritted her teeth, a flush of embarrassment and anger coloring her fair face as she brandished the hammer making a whooshing sound. With teeth clenched, her words seemed like a grim whisper from hell, carrying a fearful, trembling power: "Explain yourself about the bed-wetting, you jerk! That never happened, they would never make up such lies. You obviously concocted this tale to mock me. I will smash you to pieces."
"You just promised not to kill me," Pannis kept his head down as he ran, not forgetting to retort, "It hasn’t even been two seconds, and you’re already saying you’re going to smash me. Women really are the most fickle creatures. I can’t trust you—help, help! Are you clergy just going to watch a tragedy unfold from afar? Don’t you have any compassion at all? Show some mercy and protect life quickly!"
"It’s pointless, just realize it," Lina laughed menacingly, "This is the punishment from our Lord upon you; no one will help you. Better stop and accept your fate, jerk."
Like any other day, and not much different from when they were in the City of Knowledge, they continued chasing and fleeing, making their way out of the interior of The Church of the Earth Goddess, through the grand cathedral, and finally out of Denia’s Holy Sanctuary. As soon as Pannis burst out the sanctuary doors, his foot caught on something, and he rolled down the stairs, tumbling all the way.
At the entrance of the Holy Sanctuary, a petite girl looked up to the sky, nonchalantly withdrew her magic staff that had tripped Pannis, and pretended to whistle, acting as if she had nothing to do with what happened. The running priestess paused, stopped abruptly, and huffed heavily at the still-tumbling Pannis before turning to face the four familiar figures at the sanctuary entrance.
"You guys... all came. Didn’t you continue resting?" The girl rubbed her eyes, suddenly teary, and with a radiant smile, she opened her arms wide as if to embrace everyone, choking up as she said, "Thank you, I love you all." (To be continued.
