Chapter 926: Chapter 43 I’m Back

When he passed through several doors and saw the Archbishop of The Church of the Earth Goddess—who was thought to represent the Deity walking the mortal world and whose heart was closest to the Deity—Pannis’s expression was very strange. He had already felt something was amiss with the tremendous volume of the Archbishop’s snoring sound from afar. Now, seeing the man in person, he finally understood why the snoring was so loud, because he felt he was not actually meeting an Archbishop, but a mountain of flesh.

The Archbishop stood at about two meters tall, quite tall even among men, and his physique, though not as exaggerated as Freya’s in her prime, probably didn’t weigh much less because of his height. For a person with such a physique, it was no wonder the snoring was so loud. This mountain of flesh, oh no, this esteemed Archbishop seemed not at all like clergy; his massive build and plate-like fierce-looking face would probably scare half the children on the streets of the Holy City to tears—and the other half didn’t cry merely because they were too petrified. It was hard to imagine why such an ancient and great Deity would choose such a figure as its spokesperson, but it did make sense why Denia had commandeered Lina’s body and insisted on making Freya lose weight through an Oracle, perhaps even the Deity itself had been deeply troubled over the years.

The Archbishop was still napping, his corpulent body lying on the bedroom bed, his silvery hair and beard trembling with each snore. Seemingly disturbed by the sounds from the two people, the elderly man stopped snoring and struggled to turn over in bed, a simple movement that made the unfortunate bed creak miserably. Watching the not-so-ordinary yet so ordinary old man, Lina smiled bitterly, walked up, and gently pushed the Archbishop, "Archbishop Grandpa, Archbishop Grandpa, wake up."

The old man continued to sleep. Lina’s nudging made him uncomfortable. He waved his hand in his sleep to shoo away the evil hand disrupting his sleep, smacked his lips contently, muttered something indecipherable, covered his head with the blanket, and slept even more soundly. Lina turned to look at Pannis, her face full of helplessness, only to find Pannis looking amused, covering his mouth and laughing exceptionally happily, which left her no choice but to glare at him fiercely and increase the force of her nudging while raising her voice, "Archbishop Grandpa, Archbishop Grandpa, someone is here to pray."

"Let them find someone else." The old man finally reacted, but it was only a subconscious response within his drowsy sleep, "I’m not responsible for prayers. Aowu, delicious, smack smack."

Pannis was even more amused, and although he made no sound, his body shook in laughter. Lina stomped her foot in annoyance, bit her lower lip, and thought for a few seconds before suddenly showing a sly expression. She pushed the old man’s body hard and yelled, "Archbishop Grandpa, this is terrible, the Dean Auntie found the two bottles of wine from the year 3610 that you hid; she is looking for you all over the place right now."

"Impossible, absolutely impossible. I clearly hid them in the Secret Chamber of Holy Relics and even in a secret compartment; how could she find out?" As soon as Lina finished shouting, the old man immediately jumped off the bed with a speed that did not match his size or age, and the moment he landed, Pannis felt the whole room tremble. The Archbishop, not yet fully awake, relied entirely on instinct as he frantically searched for places to hide in the room. Finding no other hiding place, he lifted the bedsheet to crawl underneath, muttering in panic, "Quick, go tell her I’m not here, just say I went out to help someone confess, no, say I went to different temples to preach and won’t be back for three to five years. Oh wait ... that’s not right ..."

"Archbishop Grandpa, you’ve been secretly hiding wine again." Seeing the old man slowly regaining his senses from the initial confusion, Lina placed her hands on her hips and glared, saying, "I am going to tell Dean Auntie, and she will have a proper talk with you."

"I certainly didn’t hide any wine. As the Archbishop of the Earth Goddess, how could I possibly lead by drinking secretly in the church?" Although The Church of the Earth Goddess did not prohibit alcohol, out of respect for the Earth Goddess, drinking within the temple grounds was forbidden, except during certain special celebrations. However, it was clear that the Archbishop hadn’t done a perfect job. After defending himself with his back turned for a few moments, he gave up on the idea of hiding under the bed, whether because the danger had passed or because he realized he simply couldn’t fit—but at least he abandoned the idea. When he finally turned around and saw Lina, the old man was completely stunned.

Lina stood quietly in front of the old man, her white priest robe unblemished by any dust. Her silver hair, smooth and supple, cascaded down her back, and her fair skin faintly glowed with a healthy rosiness. The power flowing from the mallet and the tome at her waist shone brightly. The young girl seemed like a fairy who had stepped out of a painting, too beautiful to belong to this world. The old Archbishop just stared at the smiling priest girl, his lips trembling slightly, unable to utter a single word.

Lina smiled naturally, seemingly having forgotten all that had happened before, as if she had returned to her childhood days over a decade ago. She tilt her head and said crisply, "Archbishop Grandpa, I’m back."

"You... you..." The old Archbishop seemed choked up, his mouth opening several times without producing a complete sentence. It took him more than ten seconds to finally regain his speech, dazedly asking, "You... who are you?"

"Hey, Archbishop Grandpa," Lina’s eyebrows shot up and she angrily retorted, "That’s too much, reacting like that."

"Hahahaha, it was your fault for tricking me into thinking the dean was looking for me. This is an old man’s revenge, hahaha." The old man was obviously delighted by Lina’s reaction, his silver beard quivering as he laughed heartily with open arms. "Lina, my child, after so many years, you’ve finally come home."

"Yes, yes." Tears were in Lina’s eyes. She tried to throw herself into the old man’s arms, but was pushed aside by the protruding belly of the Archbishop, causing her to wipe her tears while laughing and exclaiming, "I’m home."
