Chapter 906: Chapter 23 Lina’s Transformation

As the capital of the Neville Federation, Neville City is a distinctive city, divided into three independent areas aligned linearly in a circular pattern. The West District, also known as the Temple District, as one of the capitals of the two major human kingdoms, congregates over a dozen church headquarters and several branches, resulting in a vast land area. Most buildings within the district are church-related, with the few commercial structures also primarily serving the church and its congregants who come to pray. The Central District, being the original site of Neville City, is also known as Old Town and primarily functions as an administrative and residential area. Most people who work in the other two districts reside in the Old Town. Both of these districts, whether by day or night, always exude a quiet atmosphere, as if the entire city were asleep.

However, the East District starkly contrasts the other two districts, even surpassing the vast Temple District in size and, seventy years ago, became recognized as the largest district in Neville City. People aptly named it the Sleepless City. It is hard to say whether Neville City or the City of Innocence imitated the other, but it is undeniable that the two cities share many similarities. As a nation where commerce and services are highly developed, Neville City is essentially a colossal entertainment city teeming with innumerable taverns, dance halls, restaurants, and casinos, rightfully earning its nickname as a graveyard of money. Once you step into this Sleepless City, even the last coin in your pocket is bound to be spent—and willingly so. For the residents of Neville, rich or poor, this place is their paradise; the poor find countless opportunities to make money while the rich indulge in the best nightlife. Men can find the most beautiful ’nightingales,’ and women can lure the wealthiest men or find the most handsome and skilled companions. Theoretically, such an opportunity-filled city should also be brimming with vitality. Unfortunately, nearly everyone who has lived here long-term has become blinded by the dazzling night lights and the crisp sound of coins, succumbing to the alluring pleasures and ultimately becoming part of this decadent city, unable to ever leave.

When the girls left the inn in the residential district and slowly approached the East District along the main road, they already felt the ambiance of the Sleepless City. From a distance, they could hear the faint sounds of upbeat music and see the constant twinkling of lights. Feeling this, Catherine couldn’t help but frown, "It seems a bit too noisy; I don’t really like it."

"Don’t worry, not all places in Sleepless City are this noisy. Everyone can find an environment they enjoy," Pannis shrugged, "If it couldn’t offer that, Sleepless City wouldn’t be so captivating."

"Well, I’m not particularly worried; just looking around," Catherine said, "I’m more concerned about Lina, though. Is it really okay to leave her alone in the inn?"

"In terms of safety, Flare is there. A Legendary Rank combined with a Demigod—I don’t think anyone would dare cause them trouble," Pannis responded indifferently, "Plus, she has two little ones keeping her company; there shouldn’t be any problem."

"You know that’s not what I’m worried about," Catherine glared at Pannis, annoyed, "We’re in Neville City, only three kilometers from the Earth Church’s main temple. You’ve seen how she’s been behaving along the way; aren’t you concerned?"

"What good does worrying do?" Pannis retorted, "You should know too, right now worrying won’t solve any problems for Lina, nor will it help her in any way. Since that’s the case, it’s better to give her ample trust, believing she can adjust her own mindset. This kind of mental block, among the five of us here right now, except for Ava, who else doesn’t have it? Ah, no one, right? So, everyone should understand by thinking about themselves if someone truly seeks redemption, the most critical action is to reach out and grab the hand of aid offered to you. So, let’s give her some more time; trust that she can step out of her self-imposed darkness and proactively embrace your offered redemption. Plus, haven’t you noticed? Over the past six months, even when interacting with strangers, although she’s still fearful, she almost never pretends to be her friends to escape."

"That’s true," Catherine nodded vigorously, "I was worried it was just my illusion, and I’ve been wanting to talk to you about it. It turns out you feel the same way; that’s really great. It seems like she started changing when she came out of the ice fields. When I saw Galantis, I was just suspicious, but after seeing Muir, I could confirm she had really changed."

"That’s why coming to Neville City might not be a bad thing," Pannis said. "I think taking this opportunity of her change might also help her completely resolve her inner conflicts and step out of her past shadows."

"I think Pannis is partly right," Vivian, although fully recovered from her illness, missed the best time for physical growth and still had the stature of a child, made a mature expression with her childlike body, which looked quite amusing, "I can feel her hesitation and her growing expectation to step out of the shadows. This trip to Neville is the perfect opportunity, provided she is mentally prepared. The most important issue now is, is she really prepared?"

"You all are overly concerned about her, which is why you think too much. If she wasn’t ready, she wouldn’t be performing the way she is now," Freya sighed, "Think about it, if she wasn’t ready, she would definitely resist returning to Neville City. So, since knowing she had to come to Neville City, has she shown any resistance? Not once, at most she hesitated and was conflicted, but she never truly resisted, doesn’t that clearly indicate that she is ready to face her past wounds?"

"Hmm, maybe you’re right." Catherine bit her lip hesitantly, took a deep breath, and said, "Then let’s give her more trust and encouragement and wait for her to give us the answer. The most important thing now is..."

"The most important thing now is to enjoy the night view of Sleepless City," Pannis interrupted Catherine, "Since we’re out, let’s enjoy this night thoroughly; we’ll deal with tomorrow’s issues tomorrow."

Catherine paused, her lips slowly curved into a smile, her eyes twinkled mischievously, and she nodded vigorously, "That’s right, let’s leave tomorrow’s issues for tomorrow and have a great time tonight."
