Chapter 557: Chapter 25 Lina’s Solution_1
"Baa~~~ Baa~~~~", the mellow bleating of the prairie sheep echoed through the tribe as dawn broke, marking the arrival of a new day. Soon, the sounds of the herdsmen’s footsteps, shouts, horses neighing, and dogs barking merged into a cacophony. Regardless of what happened yesterday, or whether any relatives or friends were severely injured in the battle, life had to go on. Rather than wasting time mourning yesterday’s losses, it was more worthwhile to nourish the livestock and ensure their prosperity.
Lina, awakened by the noise outside, tossed and turned on her dwarf bed a few times before sitting up, clutching her blanket. Rubbing her bleary eyes, she stroked her disheveled silver hair, trying to flatten the stray strands atop her head. She looked around the tent in a daze. Vivian was still asleep next to her, her body rigid but her rising and falling chest indicating she was still breathing. The occupants of the other three dwarf beds were already up, their bedding neatly tidied, as if no one had slept there at all.
"Morning, Catherine, Freya," mumbled Lina, closing her eyes once more. "The sun’s just risen, isn’t it? Why is it so noisy outside? Never mind, I’ll sleep a bit longer. I’m so tired. Wake me when we’re about to set off."
"No slacking," Catherine, who was packing her pack near the tent entrance, admonished. As she unpacked and repacked each item, she carefully checked each one for functionality, avoiding any last-minute surprises. Hearing Lina’s words, she threw a comb over to her which accurately struck Lina’s messy head. "Get up now. Pack your things. We’ll have a quick breakfast and set off. The road ahead isn’t long. We should try to reach Grand Highland City in three days."
"I know." Lina grunted and picked up the comb Lina abandoned, her silver hair proving a stubborn adversary. As she winced at the pain of untangling her hair, she called to Freya, "Prepare some water for me too, I want to wash my face."
Freya wasn’t an Elemental Mage, but she could muster a simple water conservation spell. Her water source was the Water Elemental. Upon hearing Lina’s request, Freya’s muffled voice carried from beneath a towel, "Get up quickly if you want to wash your face. You lot don’t understand the importance of time. Time, like an unceasing arrow, will only leave you further behind with each of your pauses and delays. Only by constant..."
"Staff whip." Vivian, who had been pretending to be a corpse on the bed, suddenly leapt up. Using the legendary Dimensional Door spell, she appeared beside Freya in a few strides, hitting her head with her staff. She grumbled, "Dumb Freya, as soon as I wake up, I hear your sighs. It’s so annoying."
"Where’s Pannis?" Lina finally stood up reluctantly and asked curiously, "Out drinking early in the morning?"
"He’s at the door." Catherine put the last item in her rucksack and started to don her armor. "He went out to find food just now and is making breakfast at the entrance. It should be ready soon. Hurry up and eat...Hey, why is it so noisy out there?"
Suddenly, a burst of noise came from outside. The commotion started on the other side of the camp, gradually getting louder and closer. Catherine listened carefully, then frowned, "It’s those dwarfs. What’s up with them again? Why are they making a fuss?"
"It looks like they’re coming for us again." Lina naturally picked up pieces of scale armor and helped Catherine secure it onto her body. It was impossible to put on such heavy armor alone. Lina helped to tighten the straps for her, remarking irritably, "I’m getting a bit annoyed. We’ve already backed down once, and they still don’t know how to behave. If they come to cause trouble again, let me handle it. I’ll deal with the problems I’ve caused."
"Can you handle it?" Knowing Lina’s inherently timid nature, Catherine asked worriedly, "Or should I do it? I’m probably better suited for dealing with this kind of situation."
"Don’t worry, Catherine. I can’t do it alone, but I can ask for help," Lina waved her hand dismissively. "I spoke to my friends last night, and they said we need to be tougher with those dim-witted dwarfs. Catherine, you’re too polite and abide by too many rules. There are many things you just can’t do, but I care less about those things. Watch me."
As they talked, the clamor drew nearer. Listening carefully, it was indeed the voice of the dwarf leader, Bartomelley. It was clear that Bart continuously ranted about something, while the elder Kairom tried his hardest to appease him and restrain his impulsiveness. But how could an elder Iron Rank dwarf like Kairom stop an indignant Gold Rank dwarf like Bart? All he could do was try to convince Bart to cool his temper.
Soon, the two entangled individuals approached the tent entrance of the adventure team. Bart suddenly fell silent for a few seconds then loudly asked, "Hey, human, did any of you sneak into our tents last night, rummage through all our goods and even kidnapped my comrade Langdon?"
No one outside the tent answered, only Pannis hummed a cheerful tune as she roasted something on the fire, as though completely oblivious to the dwarf’s abrasive question. Bart waited for several seconds, to someone as grumpy as him, a few seconds felt like an eternity, and he became even angrier, "You guys, in cahoots with enemies of the earth, I’ve thought you were up to no good from the start. It must’ve been you behind it, tell me, are you in this with them? I knew something was wrong with you when you showed up so coincidentally yesterday, surely it was to infiltrate our ranks and put us off guard, huh? Luckily I was cautious enough not to trust you. You failed to deceive me so you had to resort to thievery."
Still, no one responded, Pannis continued humming and was busy chopping something. Bart was seething, his beard trembling. He stomped over to Pannis, his face twisted, "Bastard, I’ve been talking to you, didn’t you hear?"
"Here’s a secret for you," Pannis’ laid-back voice finally broke the silence, "Remember the tailless dog from yesterday? You know what sets us apart from them? It’s the fact that we can speak while all they can do is bark."
"Bastard." Bren, who was following closely behind Bart, dashed forward in anger, his fist ready to strike Pannis’ face. However, the next moment, a figure dashed out from the tent. With a thud, the figure aimed a kick at Bren’s chest. Despite the thick armor, the kick sent him a few meters back. He groaned on the ground, still clutching his chest, unable to get up. The figure that kicked Bren did not pause, but swiftly faced Bart who had his sledgehammer raised high. Before Bart could completely raise his hammer, the figure got close and headbutted Bart’s helmet-clad head.
Blood sprayed into the air, Bart screamed as blood gushed from his nose. His eyes welled up with tears caused by the impact on his nose, blurring his vision. For a moment, all he could sense were the figure’s fists, feet, elbow, knee, waist, and head, raining down on him like a storm. Each attack felt like a Siege Hammer pounding on his armor, the pain gnawing through the layers of steel. Dozens of blows landed on Bart within seconds, the forces coming from various directions, preventing him from falling. It wasn’t until the final punch to his face that he was finally freed from the excruciating seconds and collapsed. His heavy armor was now marked with numerous dents.
The attacking figure paused, allowing the onlooking Beastmen to finally see the silver mane flowing freely in the air. Lina, with a bloodthirsty grin on her face, used her firm, fair bare foot to step on Bart’s face. She gently licked her bloody lips, her pearly white teeth glinting ominously under the morning sun, "I’ve been patient with you all since yesterday. You should consider yourselves lucky that I didn’t kill you at the time. If I wanted your things, I could’ve simply killed you all, there would’ve been no need to sneak around. Yet, not only did you not appreciate your fortune, but you’ve also come back to provoke me today. I must say, I admire your audacity. As a reward for your courage, I will grant you a swift death."
Lina’s attack was completely unexpected, no one had anticipated her to react so violently, it wasn’t until she had stepped on Bart that the girls rushed out of the tent. Upon hearing Lina’s declaration, Catherine’s eyes widened in horror, "Lina, no, calm down."
Lina turned to her abruptly, her eyes bloody and filled with cruelty, "Are you trying to stop me, Catherine? Too bad, no one can stop me from killing whoever I wish to kill."
Catherine was still a few meters away from Lina, seeing the muscles in Lina’s leg twitching, she knew that it was only a moment’s notice before Lina would crush Bart’s head under her foot. A single, forceful step fueled by divine strength would undoubtedly crush Bart’s skull.
"Blood Girl, I know it’s you." Pannis suddenly said in a low voice, "Stop."
"I remember you," Lina turned her gaze to Pannis, her teeth bared, "We fought together, you’re powerful. Care for a fight? If you win, I’ll back down."
"Actually, I don’t mind whether you back down or not," Pannis shrugged nonchalantly, "However, Lina considers you one of her best friends and is willing to lend her body to you. Could you really bear to make her sad?"
"Tch, what a letdown," the one known as Blood Girl grumbled as she slowly closed her eyes. (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to cast your votes and monthly tickets on qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation. For mobile users, you can visit m.qidian.com to read.)
