Chapter 524: Chapter 87: Battlefield Treatment_1

"But, you’re so big." Lina stuttered: "This crown can’t fit on your head."

"All it has to do is be attached to my person in any way." Matthew sighed: "Even if it’s placed on my shell, it’s fine."

"Alright, we have to admit, we didn’t think of that at all." Catherine shook her head with a bitter smile: "We haven’t dealt with this much at all, so it didn’t occur to us that a crown could have such a function. We knew that the crown could confer immunity to control, but we didn’t think that it could allow someone who has already been controlled to break free. It’s such a pity. If we had thought of this earlier, we wouldn’t have had to expend so much effort or suffer so many casualties. It would have made things so much easier if we had the assistance of you and Pannis."

"It seems like you truly didn’t think of it." Matthew said helplessly: "The High Priest thought you had some considerations, and specifically told me not to ask you about it casually. Who knew..."

"Now it’s too late for regrets." Catherine hit her head in frustration: "Freya, come help me gather the injured. Pannis, Pannis! Stop hiding and come help, quickly."

"Crrunk, crrunk." The familiar chewing sounds of a rat echoed from behind Catherine: "I’m right behind you. I can hear you, no need to shout, you scared me."

"Ah, you’re at it again, really... Didn’t we already agree that you’re not allowed to surprise people by popping out from behind them?" Catherine massaged her temple in frustration: "Fine, no matter how many times I say it, you won’t remember it. Stop eating now, we can get you a full basket after we return, now come and help."

"Yes, sir, Knight." Pannis responded languidly, as he forcefully threw the remainder of the eaten fruit towards the mountain: "Maybe in a few years, a pasfruit tree would grow here because of my contribution."

Catherine gave Pannis a glare, and pushed him towards the group tasked with rescuing the injured. At this moment, all five members of the adventure team sprang into action. Freya dismantled her mobile fortress, and the various metal parts under her control rearranged themselves into a track vehicle for transportation. Due to energy constraints, the vehicle could only transport ten injured people at a time, but its smooth ride was perfect for seriously injured people who couldn’t be moved easily. Catherine and Pannis were tasked with assessing the severity of injuries. The seriously injured were transported to Lina for priority treatment, while the lightly injured were escorted by the liberated members of the Sea Race. Those with moderate injuries were carried away by pairs of Sea Race members.

After the injured were transported to their destination, Vivian had already created clean water through a spell. Although this water, created from the Water Element, wasn’t drinkable, it could be used to cleanse wounds. Vivian used this water to clean the wounds of every injured person. In their adventuring life, injuries were common, and every experienced adventurer was familiar with wound treatment. Therefore, Vivian skillfully cleaned every injured person’s wounds, removing dirt and debris, before passing them to Lina.

Since the first patients were critically injured, Lina would first use a general healing magic to stabilise their condition, preventing further deterioration. Then she’d use targeted magic spells based on the severity of their injuries. Her aim wasn’t to fully heal all the injured immediately, but to gradually reduce the severity of their injuries. During the treatment process, Lina would occasionally drink a potion to restore her magic power. When she did, the injured would patiently bear their pain and refrain from moaning so as not to stress Lina out. Thankfully, Lina had already advanced to the Legendary Rank which allowed her magic limit to increase by more than ten times. Otherwise, she wouldn’t know what to do with the several hundred injured that required her attention.

The island was bustling with activity. All those uninjured were in motion. However, even more of the Sea Race plunged into the sea, spreading out in all directions to gather those amongst the race who had just been freed from control and were still lost in confusion. As time passed, more and more of the Sea Race came ashore. They were given a brief explanation before landing, so after respectfully acknowledging Matthew and the busy Vivian and Lina, they threw themselves into the rescue effort.

Catherine and Freya had shuttled back and forth across the island and the location where Lina was several times. Each time they passed along the road paved with blood and fragmented viscera, their facial expressions were not quite natural. They could tell, the busy Sea Race also felt a pang of sorrow as they passed along this bloody road, but not only did they not show it, they also deliberately considered the feelings of the two girls. The blood-slick road had the highest concentration of casualties, so logically, it would be best to set up the treatment site here, but in a silent agreement, the merfolk didn’t suggest this, so as not to unsettle the girls with this gruesome sight on constant display.

Time tends to pass quickly when busy. Seemingly in an instant, the sky was already brightly lit. The golden sun rose from the dense fog around the island, and the warm sunlight drove away the gloom that hung over it. The fishes in the sea began to leap towards the sunlight, and life sprung forth around the island again, as if the horrific battle of the night before were but a dream.

All the wounded who could be rescued had been moved to the designated gathering points. Most of the critically injured had been effectively treated and were no longer in danger. Lina, who had been busy all night, was not only exhausted of her mana, but the large amount of Meditation Potion she had consumed over a short period of time had caused her muscles to ache to the limit. For a short time, she couldn’t use any Divine Spell. At this moment, she and Vivian, both of them worn to exhaustion, fell into a deep sleep, resting one each on Catherine’s thighs. Freya and Catherine were back-to-back, maintaining a habitual vigilance. In silence, they lost themselves in a reverie. Next to them, Pannis lit a bonfire and tinkered with some fish that the nearby foraging merfolk had conveniently brought back.

"Do you regret it?" Pannis handed a freshly roasted fish to Catherine, suddenly breaking the silence. "Although I don’t know the specific circumstances, the temptation must have been strong, right?"

"If I were to have regrets, I wouldn’t have crushed it just now. Indeed, it was very tempting, but it couldn’t shake my faith." Catherine smiled lightly, her tone calm. "However, I’ve been pondering a question these past few hours. If I had indeed chosen another path, what would you have done?"

"In all honesty...."The perpetual laughter disappeared from Pannis’ face, looking up at the sky with a sigh. "I don’t know. Even now, I don’t know what I would have done if that had actually happened. But it doesn’t matter now. No more difficult decisions need to be made for me."

"Heh, thank you." Pannis’ words didn’t make Catherine upset, but rather pleased. With a gentle smile, she replied, "I’m glad you would have felt troubled, much better than the response I was worried about."

"You two, quiet down a bit, I’ll get jealous," Freya, leaning against Catherine’s back and looking up at the white clouds whispered in an ethereal voice. "After a fierce battle, the battered team gathers together, basking in the warm sunlight, listening to the music-like sound of the sea tide, allowing the breeze to caress our bodies, washing away all fatigue. Only in beautiful poetry does such a scenario exist. You guys really aren’t willing to enjoy it peacefully. Look at the sea over there, it’s so beautiful. Even the distant mist and the figures within the mist seem enchanting. Eh? Wait, figures?"

Catherine and Pannis also caught on, turning back to gaze at the sea in the distance. Hundreds of black dots were breaking through the waves, rapidly swimming towards the island. As they gradually closed the distance, the figures became clearer. Leading them was the High Priest of the Storm God Temple, closely followed by the Coral Princess, Lanna, and several hundred different members of the Sea Race. The merfolk gathered nearby had also noticed the arrival of the Deep Sea Royal Family and had stood up orderly, offering their respect to the spokesperson of the Sea God.

As Doris arrived, the sea level anomalously rose, covering the muddy beach of the island swiftly. Countless merfolk effortlessly crossed the beach and landed on the rocky peaks. It was then that the girls from the adventure team noticed that all the present Clergy were dressed in ceremonial finery, their expressions solemn; a decorum unseen even when greeting the blessed of their deity.

After landing on the island, the procession headed directly towards the adventurer team. When they approached, most of them stopped behind, only the twenty-one individuals dressed as Clergy moved forward. Doris, the High Priestess, walked in the middle with ten figures each on her left and right. The procession continued until it stopped in front of the five adventurers. Doris stared at Catherine for a while before bending down deeply, expressing in the most solemn etiquette her respect. The serene and pleasant timbre of her voice harbored an ineffable solemnity and gratitude, "I, the officer of the God of Ocean and Storms, Carleto. The current High Priestess of the Temple of the Ocean and Storm God. The ruler endorsed by the Sea Race. The current Clan Chief of the merfolk, Doris Carlemia, represents the seventy-nine thousand clans of the Sea Race, represents our Lord Carleto, offers the highest respect to you selfless adventurers. Even if all the waters of millions of square kilometers of ocean were used as ink, it wouldn’t suffice to express our gratitude to you. From now on, you adventurers are forever the friends of the Sea Race. Regardless of any danger, any hardship, as long as you call, the Sea Race will do everything in our power to meet your needs."

"I, Catherine K. Field, the leader of the Nellie Adventure Team, on behalf of the five members of the support Nellie Adventure Team, accept the gratitude of the Sea Race." For such ceremonial occasions, Catherine was quite adept at handling them. She put on her most sincere expression, pulled out fragments of the Nightmare Spirit from her pocket and presented them in her hand. "Under the blessing of the God of Ocean and Storms, our mission was successfully completed. I now present the ruins of the Divine Artifact, Nightmare Spirit, obtained during the mission to the High Priestess as proof. I hope the High Priestess will verify."(To be continued.
