Chapter 523: Chapter 86: Can it be like this? _1

"So you were already awake at the end." Pannis looked at Matthew with dissatisfaction in his eyes. "You were awake and still chasing to hit me, did you do it on purpose?"

"Hahaha, it was a misunderstanding. After all, these seventy years of memories are not like my own, and I need some time to re-digest and absorb them." Matthew laughed, scratching his bald head. Not meeting Pannis’s gaze, he awkwardly said, "Think about it. If it were you, waking up from a long sleep to find someone fighting you right beside, would your first reaction be to knock him down first, or sit down and chat over a cup of tea?"

"Uh, that’s a bit complicated." Pannis touched his chin, a dubious smile on his face, his eyes flickering. "If I think about it, it would really depend on the gender. If it were a beautiful woman, I would definitely choose to sit down and have a chat over tea, and maybe even do other interesting activities. But if it’s a man, I would just smack him dead first as he would have no value left anyway."

"What if she’s a woman but not beautiful, or even ugly?"

"Then she definitely gets kicked away." Pannis replied matter-of-factly, "That’s not even a question. The thought is terrifying. Too ugly, and there’s no... hey, why are you looking at me like that, Mr. Crab?"

"Uh, I’m expressing my admiration for you." Matthew observed Pannis with an admiring and pitying gaze, split fifty-fifty. "I don’t really understand the customs of the human world, but in the ocean, if I were to speak this way to a female of my race, I would probably be beaten to death by her. Humans have a better way of handling things;I guess it’s safer for males."

"Haha, that joke is not funny at all," Pannis broke out in a cold sweat and said expectantly, "You were the one who asked the question before, right? You can’t count that as speaking to a female, hahaha."

"I only asked the first question," Matthew shrugged, quickly distancing himself. "And for the second one, I didn’t ask that. But it’s strange - the faces of the females behind you look a bit off, hahaha."

Pannis’s face went pale, feeling eight dagger-like stares in his back and the palpable murderous intent. Breaking out in a cold sweat, Pannis coughed, forced a laugh and said, "Haha, it’s all a misunderstanding. What I said before was a joke, yeah, just a joke to liven up the mood, it’s not like I meant it...hahaha. Huh, Doris and the others are here already? That was quite fast."

The others were surprised at the speed as well, looking in the direction Pannis pointed at. The calm sea surrounding the path was quiet and peaceful under the three descending moons. The black sea began to glow white from the dawn far away. Everything was calm and quiet, there were no people, even the waves were absent. Doris’ trace was nowhere to be seen. After a moment of confusion, the girls turned around, and sure enough, Pannis was already gone, anywhere to be found.

"That damn bastard," Catherine cursed, suppressing a giggle before shaking her head and sighing, "Either way, it’s always good that he didn’t die. Maybe his actions were just a way of expressing his feelings. We’re all secretly glad, aren’t we?"

"Not at all," Lina’s cheeks flushed, retorting, "I’d be happy if he really died."

"I see..." Vivian said, nodding knowingly, "But who was the first one to cry?"

"Are you looking for a fight?" Lina’s cheeks got even hotter as she glared at Vivian, "Just you wait. I’ll deal with you later. You’ll learn that running your mouth comes with a price."

"As if I’m scared of you," Vivian retorted dismissively, "Just wait and see whose face swells up first."

"Um, Miss Priest," Matthew said with a wry smile, "I think the placement of your healing spell is a bit off."

"Ah, sorry, sorry." Lina apologized awkwardly, quickly correcting the position of her healing spell. The healing had been going on for some time, though the deeply ingrained wound seemed horrific, was just an external injury, not difficult to heal. It should have been healed long ago by human standards. However, the wound on Matthew’s back had not completely healed, and it looks like it’s only repaired by a third. It was probably going to take twice as long to fully heal. Lina curiously asked, "Why is your wound healing so slowly? Is it related to the demigod physique?"

"No, it’s unrelated to the demigod physique," Matthew shook his head, "Actually, it’s related to the Sea Race’s physique. You’ve seen my normal Ocean Form, it’s much larger than my land form. The wound left then was considerably larger than my entire body now. Although the healing difficulty doesn’t increase proportionately with volume, it still requires a great deal of energy to be effective. So, thank you, Miss Priestess. Actually, we were enemies before, although I was controlled back then. We did cause you significant harm. If you didn’t heal me, it would be understandable."

"No, those are two different things." Lina shook her head, "My elder sister just mentioned privately that the ones who were against us are not you, but the Divine Artifact. You all were innocent victims. Even though you harmed us, it’s not your fault. As a believer in God Denia, the God of Mercy, how could I possibly not heal an innocent injured person?"

"Thank you all." Matthew was silent for a moment before scratching his bald head and murmuring, "Comparatively, I seem a bit too calculative."

"I knew you were just trying to make me feel bad earlier." Pannis, who had suddenly sprung up from somewhere, positioned herself to flee anytime. She pointed at Matthew from afar and shouted, "I’ve heard that your crab-like Sea Race can hold grudges, but you’ve intentionally... Whoa, Vivian, wait for me to finish."

Vivian turned up her nose and watched Pannis being chased by the specially prepared Explosive Flame Spell, not knowing where she had run off to hide.

"Hahaha, it’s all a misunderstanding." Matthew chuckled awkwardly, "Actually, my wound is almost healed after all the treatment, the rest can heal naturally. But I’ve done a rough check earlier. There are quite a few of my compatriots who are seriously injured. I was wondering if Miss Priestess could also help treat them. Of course, if you need to conserve your mana, don’t worry about it. I have already contacted High Priestess Doris through the underwater currents, and she’s on her way here with some healers. So, making those guys wait isn’t a problem."

"There’s no need to conserve mana, don’t worry. Just gather all the injured together." Lina turned around and asked, "Elder sister, what do you think?"

"Yes, Mr. Matthew, please communicate with our Sea Race friends around us. Divide them into two groups - one group will bring the injured for Lina to heal and the other group will search within this sea territory. Guide those who are still lost from being controlled before to gather here that High Priestess Doris can explain uniformly later on. This will save us a lot of trouble," Catherine began, but then the smile fell from her face, her voice became low, "As for, as for, as for the friends that we lost, all we can offer are our condolences. We hope our aid to the wounded can somehow compensate for the suffering that we have caused and lessen our guilt."

"Please don’t say it like that." Matthew called over several Sea Race folk nearby and directed them to gather everyone. Although the Sea Race is quite free and unfettered, they hold utmost respect for demigods at the pinnacle of life and will do their best to accomplish whatever tasks a demigod gives. Having arranged everything, Matthew turned solemnly to Catherine and said, "Although we are not sure what exactly happened, but from the messages from the High Priestess, it’s clear that you’ve helped us tremendously with our problem of control. So, there’s no need for you to feel guilty about the ones who died. I believe the fallen members of our race must have broken free from the controlling force before they perished and that they’d be thankful and not hold any resentment against you."

"Then, let’s consider the score even now." Catherine sighed in relief and unveiled a relaxed smile, "Even though we still feel guilty, knowing that everyone doesn’t blame us makes us feel better."

"Whenever you land races communicate, you’re always so polite. Let’s not mention this incident again, no one will mind." Matthew shook his head and changed the topic, "But I’m more curious about that, the thing you have on your belt. Is that the lost Sacred Item, the Sea Emperor Crown that the High Priestess owned?"

Catherine looked down and nodded, "Yes, it’s the Sea Emperor Crown."

"Uh, I shouldn’t be asking this question, but I really want to know. When I was connecting with the High Priestess, she specifically asked me," Matthew said with an awkward laugh, "When you encountered me, why didn’t you try to put the crown on me? The High Priestess said, the crown could resist spiritual control, do you have any reservations?"

"Huh?" The four girls were stunned, their mouths agape in surprise as they exchanged glances, "Could we have done that?" (To be continued.
