Chapter 513: Chapter 76: Vivian’s Elemental Screen_1

"Is it certainly okay here?" Catherine sat down on the ground as if drained of energy, took out a water bottle, gulped down half of it, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and said, "Can your defense system completely block the enemy’s attack?"

"Unless another demigod comes, even if they attack wantonly, this fortress alone could hold firm for thirty minutes," replied Freya confidently. "With Vivian’s magic shield, they can’t break here without at least an hour."

"That’s good," Catherine breathed a sigh of relief, but as she glanced casually around within the fortress, her eyes turned red, staring fixedly at the ground with a pale face. On the ground were twenty or so randomly dropped blank 5000-Tael crystals. Catherine jumped up on the spot, her fingers trembling and pointing at the crystals on the ground, she shrieked with a voice filled with despair yet hope, "These crystals, they were definitely blank originally, right, hahaha, hahaha, they weren’t just used up by you, right, definitely not, hahaha."

"Accept the reality, dear sister," Lina sympathetically patted Catherine’s shoulder, sighed, pointing at the twenty crystal guns floating around and said, "I watched with my own eyes as Freya charged these crystalline guns one by one, you are destined to be disappointed."

"Oh, no." Catherine covered her head, moaning, "Freya, you girl, how could I forget your habits? You use crystals as casually as Pannis eats pasfruit, oh God, pray for your mercy on me."

"Hehe, dear sister, can’t you bear this?" Freya had no intention of reflection, instead, she pointed at Vivian with gleeful expression, "Go check out Vivian’s place, I hope you won’t break down."

Catherine cautiously turned her head, practically closing her eyes, only opened them a slit, quickly scanned Vivian’s face, breathed a sigh of relief and said, "It’s all right, it’s only three blank crystals. Wait, weren’t there none when I came in? Why did it suddenly become three?"

Vivian was sitting cross-legged in the center of the magic array, holding her chin and seemingly deep in thought. Her movements were mechanical as she tossed away a blank crystal in her hand and took out another 5000-Tael crystal from her pocket. With a dull voice, she said, "Why? Of course, because I used them. I extracted the crystal energy from the crystal, so it naturally became blank."

"Hey, come back to reality for a moment, isn’t this consumption speed too fast?" Catherine said in despair, "What are you doing to consume this number of crystals?"

"Charging the magic array." Vivian finally snapped back, counter questioning in confusion, "Dear sister, don’t you think that this level of the magic array can be maintained by my own mana alone, right?"

"It’s not like that, but at this consumption speed..." spoke Catherine bitterly, "I’ve just come in for three minutes, you’ve already consumed four pieces, so do you need to consume one piece per minute?"

"It’s not that exaggerated." Vivian shook her head and said, "It’s just that the magic array needs to be fully charged at the beginning of startup. One more and it’s almost enough, and the rest can be replenished as it is consumed. According to my estimate, probably about ten pieces will be required."

"Ten crystals? Compared to Freya’s side, yours is still alright," thought Catherine, about to lose her mind. Even the consumption of crystals worth ten thousand gold coins felt reassuring. But this relief would be short-lived. Vivian, as a matter of fact, casually added, "Yes, each time."

"Wait, wait?" Catherine’s body stiffened, she asked with a dry voice, "What do you mean by ’each time’?"

"Every time the magic array is set up like this," Vivian told her matter-of-factly, "If you want to move, you need to re-set it up. Each time you re-setup, it probably requires this many crystals. Well, maybe one or two fewer, depending on the attack intensity."

"I think I’ll go out and continue using the legion skills." Catherine stood silently for a while, dully picked up her shield and knight sword and said, "If I stay here, I think I will die of heartbreak."

"Only through effort, can there be gain." Freya said elegantly in an almost sing-song tone, "Master Simon once said, we gain food through sweat and toil, gain knowledge through mental effort, and gain honor through blood and life. Humans, you are forever in the process of giving and gaining... wait, big sister, calm down, okay I’ll shut up."

Catherine retracted her fierce gaze, sighed deeply, threw down her weapons again, and said weakly, "Regardless, if the consumption is so huge, we need to intensify the search. We cannot rest for too long. Lina, you’ll come with me later to search. Our joint action may speed up the process. However, be careful, don’t get too badly injured."

"I’ve been thinking about this for a while." Lina put down her war hammer, pulled out a cloth to wipe it and said: "Having two people inside and outside, we can support each other in case of any problem. I’m really not at ease with you going out alone, big sister."

"Boom." Another round of intense collision and magic explosion sound, the fortress is still as solid as ever without any signs of shaking. Catherine wasn’t really in a hurry to leave, but sat down to continue recovering her strength. She asked with some surprise, "Why can I still hear magic sounds? How did you two construct this double layer defense?"

"The outer layer is naturally my shield." Speaking of magic-related topics, Vivian immediately became energetic and explained seriously, "Do you remember the elemental screen surrounding our Yarran World? Of course, my shield has nothing to do with it, but I have imitated its concept. My Elemental Barrier is also filled with free elemental energy, which is compressed into an invisible light film. This light film doesn’t possess any defensive properties, anything can actually pass through it. But, for anything other than energy and remote attacks, the light film would automatically retaliate with magic when anything, including humans and weapons, tries to penetrate it. It’s as if each second they are under a high-powered individual attack magic of mine. The weak point of this tactic lies within the Array. Unless they destroy the Array, it’s impossible to attack the formless light film. They can only endure magic bombardment until the energy of the Array is exhausted. This is why I need to keep charging the Array."

"What if they try to destroy the Array?" Catherine asked, "Though they are under control, they still possess basic judgement. They should be able to think of destroying the source."

"That’s when my Mobile Fortress comes into play." Freya said pridefully, "My fortress happens to cover the Array. If they want to destroy it, they have to first dismantle my fortress. However, I have complete faith in goblin metal, it’s not that easy to destroy this fortress."

"I wanted to ask about this earlier," Catherine nodded and asked, "Is all of this made of goblin metal?"

"Most of the parts, including all the exterior and interior walls, are made of goblin metal, they were collected from goblin ruins and belong to the teacher’s collection," Freya explained, "However, since I assembled many of the parts, there are some key components made from forged conventional metal. But these parts won’t bear impact and won’t be exposed, so it’s difficult for them to be directly attacked."

"That’s amazing," Catherine admired, "Doesn’t that mean that the defense you two built is undefeatable?"

"How could that be possible?" Freya showed a bitter smile and shook her head, "If the opponent also has a mechanic at my level, allowing them to attack freely, within three minutes their mechanic will be able to find the fortress’s weak point, and within five minutes they could cause the fortress to collapse. Of course, I won’t just sit around and let them attack the weak points of the fortress. So the rest will be a siege between the two parties of mechanics. However, I don’t believe these controlled sea race would happen to have a mechanic among them. Even if there truly was one, I don’t think he could maintain a mechanic’s observation capacity under the control state. These two things are the key to warfare between mechanics."

"Even with weak points, this is still very impressive," Catherine commented, "but if the enemy targets the underground..."

"That would be my task," Lina thumped her chest, causing it to jingle around, "Alongside the brilliance of my lord Denia, anyone attempting to initiate an attack from the underground or towards the ground would be extraordinarily foolish."

"In that case, I feel reassured. It seems like it’s indeed safe to stay here." Catherine thought for a moment and then stood up to conclude, "We’ve rested enough, Lina, let’s get ready to head out and start searching."

"I’ve been ready for a while." Lina grasped her warhammer and spell book and stood up, having already put on her own leather armor over her priest robe. The armor was made from the leather of an Earth Walker that she and Pannis had killed earlier. The remaining leather was made into a pair of armguards and leg guards along with a wide belt, rather than another suit of leather armor. Vivian personally engraved several Enhancement Magic arrays on the arm and leg guards. When Lina used Enhancement Magic to augment her strength and body toughness, the duration of the divine spell could be significantly extended. Although they did not seem to be particularly special, they were particularly practical for Lina. These pieces of equipment had just been finished before they set out. Lina was so thrilled that she carried them with her all the time, but she never had a chance to use them. This is the first time that the equipment has been worn. However, the other girls hoped deep-down that these pieces would never have a chance to demonstrate their effectiveness, at least not their defensive capabilities. Lina, of course, didn’t know what the other girls were thinking. She tried on her new equipment eagerly, and then nodded to Catherine, "I’m ready to leave at any time."

On the outer wall of Freya’s Mobile Fortress, a door opening to the outside world was activated again. The controlled sea race who had been attacking the fortress the entire time, naturally wouldn’t miss it and charged towards it, only to be ruthlessly flung by the magic attack emanating from the Elemental Barrier. Seizing the chance, Catherine and Lina rushed out one after another, the door slowly closed behind them, then the Crystal Spears all around the fortress began to roar. (To be continued.
