Chapter 506: Chapter 70 Melvis Deep Sea Whale Crab_1

"Damn, we’re spotted," Catherine growled lowly, grabbing the Magicsteel Shield lying at her feet. She burst out of the concealed crevice with the shield raised, but was taken aback by what she saw outside. On the beach at the foot of the mountain, a giant crab larger than the entire island lay prone. Its shell was pale greenish-white, and it moved along the ground with its four pairs of legs supporting its body. The crab stood two or three hundred meters tall, frothing white from a mouth big enough to swallow a human whole. On either side of its mouth were two pairs of pincers, one larger than the other. The small pincers were about three meters wide and closer to the mouth, while the larger ones were more than ten times wider, located further away from the mouth. On top of its flat body, above its mouth were numerous little black eyes protruding out of its shell, constantly rotating on their stalks. Although they were small in comparison to the crab’s vast size, the eyes were actually not small at all, each one wider than an adult human is tall. If it had eyelids, it seemed it could squash a person with a mere blink.

As soon as Catherine darted out of the cave, a burst of wind struck her. The small pincer that had just destroyed the boulders blocking the entrance to the crevice had swung back around, viciously aiming for Catherine’s waist. Catherine’s face changed; she hadn’t even landed when the pincer was about to strike. But out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a member of the Sea Race nearby. Initiating the Charge of Fearlessness, she became a streak of light, forcefully colliding with the innocent Sea Race creature, sending it tumbling down the hillside to the beach. The speed of the Charge allowed Catherine to narrowly escape the pincer’s attack. The small pincer attacked empty air, producing a loud, metallic sound as its ends collided. Evading the crab’s pincer, Catherine raised her knight sword high, its blade gleaming, signaling the use of her skill: "Legion, consecutive assault."

With Catherine’s sword raised high, the legion of knights and squire knights that had once manifested behind her appeared once more. The size of the legion expanded significantly from the original hundred to several hundreds. Beneath the regimental and swallowtail flags, every knight was fully armed, their corporeal figures a mix of ethereal and real. Below their helmet visors, their eyes shone with real brilliance. The entire assembly process took less than three seconds. With Catherine’s knight sword pointed at the colossal crab, groups of ten from the several-hundred-strong knight legion began its assault.

Many laymen in the Yarran World often believe that the larger a magical beast, the slower its actions, and thus, professionals should easily dodge their attacks. But the professionals themselves know this couldn’t be further from the truth. Compared with smaller creatures, larger creatures’ speed indeed becomes relative to their size. But in turn, their attack range and scope multiply exponentially while the distance required to dodge their blows also multiplies. Thus, when a creature becomes large enough, it becomes more of a headache. Regardless, Catherine was prepared for this. The colossal crab’s pincer swept out, crushing several oversized rocks. However, as Catherine’s Charge was from a distance far enough away, the pincer’s attack missed.

Once again, the giant crab’s attack missed, but it didn’t continue its assault on Catherine. Instead, it planned to attack the other four people crawling out from the crevice. But before the giant crab could turn, Catherine’s Legion Assault had arrived. Squadron after squadron of knights, their figures a mix of phantom and reality, without fear of the crab’s hard defenses and enormous size, collided at full speed with several of the crab’s supporting legs. The giant crab’s shell was terrifyingly solid. Even its seemingly slender walking legs were as hard as walls made of steel. As the knights collided with it, there was no damage inflicted. Instead, they burst into scattered spots of light from the reaction force of their full-speed charge, returning to their ethereal state. However, the knights did not give up. Ten in a group, dozens of squadrons continuously charged, the boom of their impacts echoing over the island. Their relentless assault eventually bore fruit as the giant crab’s supporting legs on one side began to wobble from the knights’ blows.

The crab was extremely irritated, and redirected its attention back onto Catherine, giving up on attacking the others. Again, it swung its pincers at Catherine. Having successfully lured away the crab, Catherine finally breathed a sigh of relief. Once again, she activated a side-step maneuver with the Charge of Fearlessness, promptly moving to another location and evading yet another potentially fatal blow.

"In the name of Denia, Holy Words, alter the terrain." Lina had always been uneasy in the undersea world. That was the territory of the Sea God. Transmission of Denia’s divine power in this area would result in considerable loss, making it difficult to perform high-rank divine spells, drastically reducing her combat effectiveness. Therefore, when she returned to the island, the first thing she did was to kiss the ground, much like kissing one’s own mother. Of course, munching a mouthful of dirt was less memorable by comparison. As soon as she stepped out of the rocky crevices, Lina did not have time for surprises. The spell book appeared in her left hand. The silver spell book turned its pages automatically, and strands of fascinating text sprang from the book, disappearing into the wind. Lina’s right hand was continuously moving as her fingers traced the words floating from the book, murmuring prayers incomprehensible to ordinary people.

"Element, rock spike." While Lina was chanting, Vivian exchanged glances with her and instantly understood everything. She then began to wield her magic staff. A few substantial magic runes were drawn in the air by the tip of the staff, emitting a brownish-yellow light.

When Lina finished her chanting, she pointed her finger casually. On the ground beneath the giant crab, an area the size of half the island suddenly dropped about thirty meters as if it had been swallowed up. The other half of the island remained intact without any change. Not only did the other half of the island remain the same, even the sea water seemed as if it had come into contact with an unseen barrier. Though there was a significant drop in height, it did not invade the void. The sea water maintained its original state as if the vanished part of the island was still there. The only ones affected were the creatures on the land. The giant crab and all the sea creatures who followed it lost their footing without warning, falling involuntarily without a chance to resist.

The giant crab was immense, standing two or three hundred meters high. Correspondingly, it weighed a great deal. Falling from a height of more than thirty meters would result in a terrifying impact. Yet the true attack was not the force of the fall. On the abruptly vanished ground, over a dozen rock spikes with thick bases and sharp ends burst up from the ground, aiming at the crab’s most vulnerable belly. If hit, the crab would be severely injured by the falling weight. Among the rock spikes, three metal objects were mixed in. They were three sharply threaded metal drills that ascended with the rock spikes while spinning quickly. These three metal drills were the real hidden lethal attack. Behind Lina, Freya’s hands were dancing in the air like she was playing a piano, controlling the three drills cautiously.

Simultaneously, more than a hundred members of Catherine’s assault legion rushed out of the abrupt drop zone at top speed, leaping a good distance into the air using their momentum. They all collided with the splayed legs of the giant crab. The sudden impact caused the crab’s legs, which had lost ground support, to bend inward, making it impossible for the giant crab to straighten its legs and absorb the impact.

After a cringe-inducing sound of friction, the stone thorns and metallic drills broke one after another. Yet, not a single scratch was left on the pale belly of the colossal crab. It was only at this point that the young girls sensed a brief and intense energy fluctuation - a reaction of an Aggression Shield being assaulted.

"It turns out that it’s not a magical beast, but a genuine demigod of the Sea Race." Seizing this chance, Catherine rushed back to the others. A bitter taste filled her mouth as she experienced for the first time the sense of helplessness when battling against a true demigod professional. Under the permanent Demigod shield, any attack at any given moment was futile. Only a power of the corresponding level could possibly penetrate this shield and cause substantial damage.

"You did well, but it’s all meaningless." The gigantic crab surprisingly spoke in the human language, "Even if that demigod standing beside you lent a hand, it couldn’t break my shell’s defense. All your efforts are bound to be futile."

"You can actually..." Standing behind the girls silently providing support, Pannis was suddenly shocked and exclaimed, "You actually...still have a will of your own and can speak?"

"I am a top-notch existence in the deep sea." Just as the mighty crab spoke, Lina suddenly canceled her terrain altering skill. The land that had vanished into thin air reappeared, burying half of the colossal crab. But the crab seemed oblivious, casually stretched its leg, crawled out from the dirt as if nothing had happened, and said, "Is preserving my own will so strange?"

"Then why are you attacking us?" Pannis countered, "Do you know what you are doing?"

"Of course I do. I am fighting to protect my master." The giant crab naturally said, "You pose a threat to my master, how can I let you go?"

"I understand now." Pannis instantly thought of the condition that Doris had once described, narrowed his eyes, and nodded, "Like Doris at that time, you are also in a conscious, controlled state."

"Controlled? I don’t see it that way." The giant crab declared, waving its small pincers, "Besides, even if I were controlled, so what? Serving the master is the most important thing."

"Serving the master, huh? Well, your kind, the Melvis Whale Crab, is a rare branch among the Sea Race. Your population is not large, always on the brink of natural extinction." Pannis’s voice gradually took on a chilling tone, "Tell me, after your death this time, will your species move a step closer to extinction?"

The next moment, an unprecedented change occurred. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, please support us on qidian.com through recommendation and monthly ticket votes. Your support is our greatest motivation. If you are reading this on your mobile phone, please visit m.qidian.com.)
