Chapter 465: Chapter 32 Rescue Completed_1
"Toot"~~~~A sharp whistle rang out on the beach of Swordfish Island, as the last rowboat left the beach and headed towards five mid-sized sailboats anchored at sea. Aboard the rowboat were the captain and a few senior managers of the airship, who waited until they watched all the passengers and airship staff safely board the rescue ships before they felt at ease to leave Swordfish Island. On the departing rowboat, the old captain kept looking back, reluctant to part with the airship that had been his intimate companion for ten years. He wondered if he would ever have another opportunity to pilot her in the skies of the Yarran World.
In contrast to those who left, another group of people travelled on rowboats in the opposite direction, landing on Swordfish Island from the five rescue ships. These were mercenaries temporarily hired by the Business Federation, tasked with ensuring the safety of the airship until it was repaired by the technicians. Due to time constraints, the first to land were only three hundred fully armed mercenaries. However, large forces were still on the way. According to the contract, a mercenary brigade of about a thousand men would carry out the protection task, expected to last two months. For this, the Business Federation would pay a price of seven hundred thousand gold coins but this was much less than the loss of having the airship stolen by enemies again.
On the beach, the already landed mercenaries didn’t form neat lines ready to take commands from their superiors like the armies of various countries. These mercenaries just sat in messy heaps on the beach in small squads. Yet despite the chaotic scene, these experienced mercenaries had chosen their rest spots strategically. While seemingly random, in reality, each group of mercenaries was positioned to launch an attack in the shortest time possible from any direction towards enemies trying to approach the airship.
"Captain Catherine?" A towering female swordsman, standing over two meters tall, with a well-proportioned physique and bulging muscles under her skin, a scar running through the right half of her face, sporting an extremely short black hairdo, stands with hands on her hips next to Catherine. "I am Bianca, bringing greetings from Captain Dora."
"Silver Lion of Silver Lily Mercenary Corps? The commander of the first brigade?" Catherine turned around, her eyes inspecting the woman who also bore resemblance to her own melee profession with respect, her face spread with a genuine smile as she extended her hand, "I’m honored to meet you. I’ve heard about your bravery and frankness from Dora several times and have always wanted to meet you."
"Actually, she probably said I was reckless and impulsive, hahaha." Bianca extended her hand to shake Catherine’s, scratching short hair and laughing heartily with the gusto of a man. "She always criticizes me like that. I’m used to it."
"Oh, not at all. She admires you, too, actually." Catherine smiled gently, "We are at ease knowing you guys are guarding here."
"Your adventure team is really strong." Bianca nods to each of the young girls in turn, "With you guys around, there’s really no need for us to take on the defense, you alone would be enough to ensure the safety of the maintenance team from the Transport Association."
"We have other matters to attend to, so we are leaving shortly." Catherine didn’t deny Bianca’s assessment and simply explained, "We have other tasks to do, so we will have to leave this place in your capable hands. But where did you guys rush from? You were surprisingly quick to arrive here."
"It’s a coincidence, I was in City of a Thousand Islands these days." Bianca said, "I was preparing to take a group of kids out to sea to replace Dora’s Second Brigade. Half of my team had already gotten there, but since the commander took this assignment from the Transport Association, Dora has no choice but to stay at sea for a couple more months, and I will hold the fort here with the rest of my crew for two months."
"Poor Dora," Catherine’s tone didn’t betray whether it was heartfelt or simply teasing, "looks like she will only be accompanied by sea birds for a while."
"Hahaha." Bianca laughed heartily, her gaze finally landed on Mr. Pannis, she extended her hand and patted Mr. Pannis’s shoulder with force, the thumping sound made one suspect they were in a blacksmith’s shop. "You’re really lucky to be working with such gentle and pretty sisters. I’m envious of you. How about we switch places?"
"Stop joking around." Mr. Pannis, under the blows of Bianca’s relentless patting, retorted, "Please watch your language when you speak. Gentle and pretty sisters? Do such creatures even exist? I’ve never noticed such a creature around me. As a commander of two thousand soldiers, you ought to take responsibility for your own words."
"Oh, I’m sorry." Bianca stared seriously at Mr. Pannis’s face, stopped her shoulder tapping motion, placed both hands on Mr. Pannis’s shoulders for a firm grip before reluctantly letting go, speaking solemnly, "I must tell you, I was mistaken about you before. Now, not only do I envy your good fortune, but I also admire your courage immensely. You are the bravest man I’ve ever met. Hang in there, don’t you dare die on me."
"Hm?" Mr. Pannis shuddered, sensing a small hand on each of his shoulders all of a sudden. The silver-haired girl pushes up her glasses with her middle finger, the mage girl wears an innocent smile on her face. Each girl had claimed ownership of one of his shoulders, getting close to his ear, their voices carrying a chill like the accumulation of snow in severe winter, "Dear Mr. Pannis, could you please explain what you meant when you said that such creatures don’t exist?"
"Ha, ha, ha, this is a broad research topic, I need to explain to you in detail." Mr. Pannis wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, laughed nervously a few times before shaking off the girls’ hands and ran ahead, yelling, "Help me!"
"Hahaha." Bianca stroked her nearly bald head. "Your team really is lively, do you always immerse in such happiness each day?"
"Hehe." Catherine, arms crossed over her chest, lightly laughed without care, "Yes, we immerse in happiness all the time."
"Here they come." As a Crystal Gunner, Freya had a unique visions ability akin to an archer, her field of view was even farther than Catherine’s. She had been looking out to the sea and suddenly said, "They are finally back."
"Looks like it’s time to part ways," said Catherine, "Our client is back, we will soon head out into the deep sea. Please take care of yourselves. Oh, and remember, the opponent who wants to steal the skyboat is very powerful, they are as strong as a demigod, I don’t know if they will come back to seize the boat, so please be extra careful."
"Yes, I understand," Bianca nodded, "The captain explained it all during the transition. Though he kept why the enemy retreated a secret, I believe he is not exaggerating about their power, your words confirm that fear too. Don’t worry, the team I brought with me is the elite of the elite. We will ensure the completion of the mission with our lives. If anyone wants to take the skyboat, they will have to kill us all, and we are confident that before they succeed, we will set a tracking beacon on them with the blood curse. Then they will be hunted down by the chairman for the rest of their lives."
"It’s good that you are prepared." Catherine shook hands with Bianca again to bid her goodbye, "Next time we meet, we should have a drink together in the Holy City."
"Sure, we must." Bianca cocked up the corner of her mouth," Well, I won’t disturb your conversation with your client anymore. Let’s meet again in future, as long as we are still alive."
"As long as we are still alive," Catherine softly repeated Bianca’s words and watched this powerful figure from the mercenary world leave."
"Sorry we are late," two women of the Sea Race came out of the water, Lanna waved to Catherine and saluted, "We didn’t keep you waiting long right?"
"Of course not, the rescue vessel just left," Catherine said, "You brought the Amphibian Beads?"
"Yes, my apologies, we did not bring enough the last time," Lamia, even in apology, sounded as rigid as a stone, "This time we brought enough for everybody."
"There’s no need to apologize, it’s not your responsibility," Catherine said, "I did not inform you that we had a new member, Freya, so really it’s our fault, we caused you the trouble to make the trip again."
"No need for the formalities, shall we start using them now?" Lanna took a look towards the shore, showing a troubled expression which when coupled with her naturally charming looks, it made people couldn’t help but feel compassion for her, "Father.. No.. is Mr. Pannis playing another round of chase?"
"Damn it." Catherine slapped her forehead and turned around to yell, "You three, stop messing around, we have serious business to attend."
"We are coming." The two excited young girls immediately stopped what they were doing and came towards the sea. Only Pannis, with a crestfallen face, was panting for air, keeping his distance from them with caution."
"I hope all your luggage is waterproof." After receiving an affirmative answer, Lamia took out five medium-sized backpacks. The backpacks were made of soft leather, with a mysterious deep black surface covered in scales, "This is made from the skin of a deep-sea giant beast. It utilizes water pressure, buoyancy, and the secret techniques of the Sea Race. Although the space expansion rate is only four times, it is almost weightless in the water, it only works under water. Each of you should take one of these to hold your weapons and armour, because under deep water, you surely can’t be wearing armour in battle, Miss Catherine."
"Thanks, I was worried about what to do with my armor," Catherine didn’t pretend to be modest, she took these practical packages and said, "We are ready, we can start anytime."
"Great." Lanna rummaged around in her fishtail pouch, took out five small boxes, then picked up a small knife and waved it in her hand, "Who wants to go first?"
"I’ll go." Catherine was wearing a two-piece swimsuit, she walked into the sea and said, "I’ll go first."
But before her, Pannis had already swum to Lanna’s side, he stood next to Lanna and said, "I am the first." (To be continued. If you like this novel, feel free to vote for it on qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
