Chapter 462: Chapter 29: Leisure on the Island_1

"Ya, ya, ya." On the sandy beach of Swordfish Island, white seabirds circled in the air, occasionally shedding a few delicate feathers. On the sparkling sea, fish continued to leap out of the water, creating row after row of splashing waves. Multicolored shells were gently washed ashore by the waves and they shimmered with a colorful light under the sunshine. Several shallow sea creatures like the Pannis turtles, burdened with their heavy shells, crawled from the beach towards the water.

It was already the fourth day of being marooned on the island, but the passengers didn’t feel anxious. This was because the Transportation Association, jointly owned by the Business Federation and the Goblin Business Association, had received a message relayed by the Sea Race. They had sent a speedboat to Swordfish Island the day before, and within a day or two, enough vessels would arrive to evacuate all stranded passengers. This news was enough to reassure everyone.

Setting aside their worries, this unexpected island life was an intriguing experience for the passengers. Every passenger who could afford the luxury of a skyboat was wealthy, and their daily lives were always busy and bustling. Suddenly being isolated from crowds on a deserted island, yet still being able to maintain a luxurious standard of living, gave them a sense of desolation forgotten by the world. The unique feelings and thrilling experience brought about by the skyboat crash were satisfying for every passenger. This satisfaction overshadowed any queries about the flight accident or the decreasing supply of luxury items.

The captain was clever enough not to confine the passengers to the ship. Each day, the passengers had a few hours to indulge in entertainment on the beach, much like their experiences when they were in the City of a Thousand Islands. The captain’s decision was not rash, but a calculated move based on careful consideration and investigation, enough to ensure the safety of the passengers.

The Yarran World ocean was both vast and peculiar. Looking at the surface from above, there seemed to be two significant parts, the navigation lines, and the navigation hazard lines. Within ten kilometers from the shoreline, everything was normal, suitable for either sailing or flying. Despite many spots where the sea was filled with reefs, making it difficult for large ships to circumnavigate the continent. Thus, sea trade routes were often short, with long-distance transport being unfeasible. Ten kilometers beyond the coastline, however, everything changed drastically. There appeared to be a clear boundary that separated the two sides. The area beyond was filled with dense fog all year round, with visibility not exceeding five meters, both day and night. Any ship would find it hard to sail in the fog, even with the guidance of a compass. However, this didn’t mean the area couldn’t be navigated. Although the sea surface was perpetually foggy, it was normal underwater. Hence, ships that wanted to venture into the high seas would hire Sea Race navigators, who could guide the journey from beneath the water. This method usually worked, but underwater conditions could be quite complex. Even with the Sea Race’s navigation, dangers arose frequently, with navigation mistakes happening in more than ten percent of trips, leading many land-dwellers to hesitate before venturing to explore the ocean.

Where there’s ocean, there are islands. According to the Sea Race, the Yarran World’s ocean area is so vast it’s difficult to calculate. The number of islands breaking the ocean’s surface is also vast. It’s said that there are over a thousand large-sized islands with a known area of over 5,000 square kilometers, and more than 300 super-sized islands exceeding 20,000 square kilometers. There are countless medium and small-sized islands. Depending on the size of the island, a fogless vacuum is formed around the island, extending for a radius of 1,000 to 3,000 meters, similar to the Yarran Continent.

Most of these islands are forest-type, especially the large and super-sized ones, teeming with trees and magical beasts. However, they are rich in resources and abundant in precious ores and fauna. For most intelligent beings, these islands are like golden territories. Therefore, countless adventurers travel between the islands and continents every year, exploiting resources from these islands for high profits. However, the acquisition of wealth always comes with corresponding risks. Many adventurers never return; lost in the vast sea or perishing in the grasp of the more ferocious island magical beasts. Even great power can’t guarantee immunity from such unfortunate fates. Catherine’s parents were a testament to this.

Besides adventurers, mercenaries also wouldn’t miss out on this tantalizing bounty. As soon as the relationships amongst the human and other races began to relax, and internal warfare amongst the humans started to decrease, the Mercenary Guild set its sight on the islands. Now, the top ten mercenary guilds are employed by major powers. They focus their primary forces on exploring and developing the islands in the navigation hazard zone throughout the year. They may not be able to fundamentally transform the forest-type islands into habitable land, but they can procure a large number of precious items to meet the employers’ requirement and, in turn, earn a high reward. Even low-ranking professionals, serving a few years as mercenaries exploring the islands can attain a reward sufficient for a lifetime of luxury. The catch, however, is to stay alive, and that’s not something just anyone can achieve.

Of course, this only applies to the area beyond the navigation hazard line. Things are much better within. The magical beasts in the forest of these islands are not significantly stronger than their mainland counterparts, making it safer. Furthermore, the beasts in the forest seldom wander onto the beach. Even if a few do, they are often the weaker ones from the periphery. The dozens of low-level mages and technicians on the skyboat can deal with them handily. Even more comforting is having four Legendary Rank professionals and a Demigod on board. Even though the captain has sworn to the Deity not to openly reveal Pannis as a Demigod, using this fact for reassurance is still permissible.

During the fourth day’s noon, the seaside was still filled with joy. The onboard staff moved the cafe’s chairs onto the beach, and they built several makeshift houses on the beach using simple materials. At first glance, it resembled a miniature version of the beach amusement park from the City of a Thousand Islands. The wealthy and noble passengers donned light clothing, enjoying their island survival journey on the beach. Or at least, what they believed was an island survival journey. Everywhere was filled with cheer and happiness.

"Ha ha, the water is so cool today." On a beach far from the skyboat, it was not allowed for tourists to enter since it was outside the protection zone. However, the masters of Nellie’s adventurer team were naturally not included in this rule, thus this beach became exclusively theirs, without any other people present. Freya, wearing a special one-piece blue swimsuit cut from the skin of a Gallon jellyfish, showcasing both breathability and waterproofness. It tightly adhered to her skin, outlining her figure very clearly, or rather, emphasizing her curves even more prominently. But she didn’t mind at all, swimming around in the shallow water as flexible as a fish. Well, even though this fish is quite plump, it is still flexible. Suddenly surfacing from her dive, Freya ran a few quick steps in the water, incessantly splashing sea water towards Lina, who was warily standing in knee-deep water. "Come and cool down a little, hehehe."

"Yaah." Lina let out a cute little scream upon being suddenly attacked. A strange thing that happened not long ago was the mysterious disappearance of the conservative one-piece swimsuits that Lina and Catherine had brought with them, nobody knows where the clothes had disappeared to. As a result, after beating up Pannis, the two girls had to reluctantly buy new suits aboard the skyboat. But the jellyfish-skin swimsuits prepared for the passengers to wear in the City of a Thousand Islands’ beach resort naturally won’t come in conservative one-piece styles. So now, Catherine and Lina’s larger parts of skin were exposed, shining healthily in the sunlight. Lina was afraid of water, but she was longing to play in this sea, despite panicking and struggling once the water reached her chest, which eventually led to her drowning. So she could only stroll in shallow water, often being teased by Freya, and sometimes Catherine would join in with her childhood mischief, exasperating Lina to no end.

Catherine had tired of swimming. She wrapped a large towel around herself, wore sunglasses on the bridge of her nose, and sat lazily on the beach. Her long legs and wheat-colored skin were speckled with water droplets, making her look like a ripe pasfruit with glistening dew on its surface. Beside Catherine, Vivian was buried in sand with her body covered in loose silk long-sleeved shirts and pants. She had dainty sunglasses on her face and was semi-dozing off under them. Catherine unconsciously grabbed fine sand and continuously spread it over Vivian, who was buried in the sand.

Occasionally seagulls would land on the beach. Rarely encountering humans, they curiously observed these colossal creatures. They chirped and exchanged views with each other, as though they were discussing what these creatures were.

"Hey, it’s time to eat." Pannis’s shout attracted the girls’ attention. Behind the girls on the beach, there was a simple awning. A few long, thin tree trunks were fixed into a cone-shaped base and more branches with leaves were layered on top of the base like tiles, providing excellent shade. Under the awning, there was a fire with various shellfish and fish on a grill above it, emitting a tempting aroma. Pannis, only wearing a pair of loose shorts, sat cross-legged next to the grill and waved at the girls, shouting, "If you don’t come back, I’m going to eat it all myself."

"We’re coming, we’re coming." The girls found it hard to resist Pannis’s cooking skills and quickly gathered together, running barefoot on the fine sand towards the awning. As they were running, Catherine unintentionally looked back and suddenly stopped, "What’s that?"

The girls all looked back together. On the blue sea, seven or eight dorsal fins suddenly broke through the waves and were quickly swimming towards the island.

"It’s the Giant Shark." Lina, who had memorized the Magical Beast Handbook, was very sensitive to magical creatures. She frowned and said, "They’re vicious sharks, but they usually don’t approach the shore, it’s strange."

"Anyway, we should first notify the people over there," Catherine said, "Let the tourists avoid them first, then we can investigate the cause." (To be continued.
