Chapter 405: Chapter 31 The Opening of Earth Praise and Flower of Light_1

"Praise be to the Earth, the harborer of all things in the world, teeming with life bearing many species that trudge across your surface, their lineages continuing through generations. Praise be to the Earth, the womb of infinite vitality, nurturing innumerable lives to grow and multiply under your nourishment, their species not ceasing in generations. Praise be to the Earth, providing shelter for the existence of all beings, protecting them from the invasion of enemies and the entanglements of danger. Our Earth, offering a sanctuary to souls, allowing them to return to their sole dwelling places, return to the eternal rest..."

Lina knelt above a protruding stone pillar, her hands clenched into fists in front of her, her nose touching the back of her fists. Her eyes semi-closed, she chanted quietly with a heartfelt devotion. Amidst the hymns of Earth’s praise, a light descended from the sky, piercing through the crevices in the ravine above her head, shining directly upon Lina’s crown, bathing the white-robed, silver-haired young sage in holy light. As the light descended, Lina began radiating a gentle, yet profound energy mirroring the earth’s resilience – spreading around slowly, but relentlessly.

With the surge in vital force, Annie was the first to retreat into the pendant. The nearby undead seemed to sense the presence of their nemesis, their unrest intensified. However, regardless of their agitation, they could no longer reverse the situation. The vibrant vital force continued to spread, nurturing the grass in the ravine to grow quickly under the influence of this divine power.

"Sheesh." Marcia grimaced, taking in an oddly strained breath. Her face seemed to display both pain and pleasure. Catherine regarded Marcia with puzzlement, "What’s wrong?"

"Latent injuries." Marcia said, rubbing her shoulder, "Some injuries that neither potions nor healing spells could cure fully. I wasn’t aware of them before, but they are healing under the nourishment of this vital force."

"Must be a side effect." Catherine noted, "I don’t feel anything. Probably because my latent injuries were healed long ago. Lina’s healing magic is really impressive. With her around, you don’t need to worry about getting hurt."

"That doesn’t mean you should deliberately get hurt when you have nothing better to do." Pannis sideways glanced at Catherine, "Count them yourself, in recent months, how many times have you been seriously injured? Got close to a lethal wound twice, no?"

As their conversation continued, the spreading life force began to impact the crowded undead around them. The undead reacted to the touch of life as though it were a deadly poison. Devoid of fear or emotion, they instinctively retreated – dreading contact with this vital force. However, the undead were too densely packed. Those at the back wanted to move forward while those at the front instinctively retreated. Neither could budge, creating a deadlock. But the vitality contained in the earth did not deadlock, continuing to spread. Each undead touched by the living energy would stiffen, wobble on the spot as if drunk, and then collapse, their once-flaming soul fire extinguished to return to eternal rest. The surging life energy continued to creep outward. It seemed slow, yet it had unknowingly covered a space of a hundred meters around them – purifying a great number of undead into ordinary bones, creating a large, uninhabited area.

"Next up." Lina’s hymn ceased abruptly, she raised her head abruptly, her eyes still flashed with a silvery divine power, "Sister, it’s your turn."

Catherine nodded, leapt down from the stone pillar, skillfully landing on the back of her Silver Wolf. The Silver Wolf raised its head and howled, its muscular limbs sprinted forward like the wind - leaping over the vacant area and impacting the undead on the periphery.

"Combat Technique: Legion Formation, Wedge." Catherine’s longsword swung with accumulated force. Behind her, hundreds of illusory banners and pennants fluttered once again, a hundred knights enveloped in steel came galloping into sight, raising their weapons high, making a cheering motion in silence. Catherine’s expression remained calm. With her steady hand lowering the visor of her helmet, she elevated her longsword diagonally to her body. As if receiving a signal, the knights behind her also lowered their visors, gripping their lances tightly.

"Legion: Pierce." Catherine forcefully slashed down with her longsword, pointing the blade directly at the obstructing cluster of skeletons in front of her. Her mount increased its speed to maximum, leading the charge into enemy lines. The illusory knights behind her leaned abruptly onto the backs of their equally illusory horses. Their lances securely mounted on the rest, their sharp tips flickering a bloody spark.

Leading the hundred knights in a wedge-shaped formation, Catherine met the sea of skeletons head-on with a uniform pace in silence. Under the flickering aggression aura, the skulls of the front-row skeletons were sliced open by her sword. The second and third skeletons were knocked to the ground, rolling about by the wolf’s head. Before they could get back on their feet, the hooves of the knights behind bore down upon them. Despite being illusory, the weighty hoof-strikes quickly ground them from skeletons into bone dust.

The charge continued, the fearless knights seemed completely ignorant of fatigue - of course, as the product of skills, they inherently had no concept of fatigue. They charged upstream against the sea of undead, rapidly clearing a wide path forward. They pushed forward another hundred meters before their momentum drained and their speed decreased. Once the knights slowed down, another stone pillar rose from the ground amid the sea of undead. Pannis and his group rode their Silver Wolf back to the base of the stone pillar, using the avenue Catherine had carved out. Much like before, Marcia carried Vivian on his back, while Pannis still held Lina as they once again ascended to the top of the stone pillar.

"Whizz," several shrewdly aimed bone arrows shot out, precisely when the group could not dodge in mid-air. Simultaneously, three huge horse-cutting sabers with howling wind noises spun towards them, targeting Lina and Vivian, the seemingly weaker caster professionals.

"It’s that conscious undead causing trouble again." Pannis forcefully pulled on the grappling hook to dodge the bone arrows, simultaneously kicking out at one of the spinning horse-cutting sabers, the cleverly applied force changed the saber’s direction, causing it to fly upward and get lodged into the rocks overhead.

"Charge: Covering." Catherine, who just concluded her assault, rushed back to the stone pillar with her shield in front, timely blocking the other two oddly angled horse-cutting sabers with her skill.

"I’m taking the potion." Lina gulped down a bottle of the Meditation Potion and sat cross-legged, entering her three minute meditation period. Just as before, Marcia, Catherine and Pannis formed a triangle around Vivian and Lina, protecting them.

"Looks like it’s my turn," Vivian said with a cold smirk. "Last time, unprepared, we got ambushed by a horde of undead, almost losing our lives. But this time is different. This time I’m fully prepared to deal with the undead. You won’t get another chance."

"Three minutes," Catherine reminded, panting slightly. "Ideally it won’t take longer than four, and then we’ll have to start the next charge. Got it?"

"Of course. I’m the most skilled prodigy here," Vivian boasted with a confident smile. "It’s Vivian time now."

As she finished speaking, Vivian’s arms opened to her sides. Behind her, as though she had extra invisible arms, she lifted dozens of delicate crystal bottles into the air, shaking them up and down. The transparent bottles were filled with a pale liquid that was so soothing to look at it could calm one’s mind immediately.

"Pop." More than a dozen caps popped open all at once, a warmth seeping from the bottles, piquing everyone’s curiosity. Sensing the power within the liquid, the undead felt even more unsettled than they had moments ago when faced with Lina’s Divine Spell. They even pushed the Silver Wolves defending beneath the stone pillars to the edge, desperate to charge up the pillars and attack. But the resilience of the Silver Wolves cannot be questioned, as the smaller their defensive circle, the stronger their defense became. When the defensive circle was almost in contact with the stone pillar, the sea of skeletons could not advance any further, pinned by the five giant wolves beneath the stone pillar.

Vivian’s smile was cold. Perhaps the siege by the undead in the sewer a month ago that almost cost Catherine her life had filled her with resentment towards the undead. Therefore, she poured the dozen plus vials of liquid around the stone pillars with a heart full of revenge, her hands simultaneously grabbing more pale crystal bottles and tossing them further away. Controlled by her mana threads, the area covered by the liquid ranged over a hundred meters before she gave up enlarging the area due to lack of strength.

"I’m ready," Vivian muttered, taking a deep breath and fixing her blue cap on her head, "to send these annoying undead back to where they belong."

"Snap." Vivian lightly snapped her fingers and pronounced with poise: "Vivian mode, Flower of Light."

Following the snapping sound, a white light wall composed of Light Elements appeared around the stone pillar, tightly enclosing the pillar with no gaps. The circular light wall gradually extended upward, reaching nearly a hundred meters high before it stopped and closed off at the top. The light wall now looked like a bud ready to bloom, with countless layers of light tightly hugging the stone pillar, like flower petals protecting the bud within.

"Just like the Divine Art of Life," Vivian calmly said. "Light magic is also a bane to the undead. Under the high concentration of Light Elements, the undead, representing darkness and death, can only face destruction. That’s their only fate."

"So, you’d been preparing from the moment we found out we were up against the undead?" Pannis asked. "Judging from how generously you’re using these potions, you must have prepared a lot."

"Very much," answered Vivian. "Last time, I lagged behind and nearly caused trouble to big sis. I need to vent this time."

With her back to Vivian, Catherine let out a soft sigh and shook her head without a word.

Vivian didn’t speak further. She gently clapped her hands together and chanted softly, "Vivian mode, the blooming of the flower."

And thus, a gigantic flower made up of Light Elements slowly bloomed in the valley. (To be continued. If you like this work, please come to qidian.com to vote. Your support is my biggest motivation. Mobile users please go to m.qidian.com to read.)
