Chapter 368: Chapter 79: Three Seconds_1
The scene unfolding before their eyes was evident to everyone at the dinner table, yet it was as if none of them had witnessed it. Suspicion was still gasping for breath, his eyes tightly shut, clutching his belly as he slumped in his chair, the gravity of his injuries unknown. Indulgence appeared to be numb from weakness, her half-closed eyes unfocused and devoid of vitality, whilst even her lips were bloodless. Elegance held her pupils slightly contracted, continuing to cut her meat as if determined to remain impartial. As for Pannis, his left hand paused mid-forkful of food, squinting as he continued to chew.
"So you dare to expose your back to others, indulgence? I have to say, you’re not very clever," Ruthlessness finally breathed a sigh of relief, standing up with a shy smile, suddenly appearing on the dinner table, stabbing at Indulgence’s nape: "Farewell, Indulgence."
Time seemed to freeze. Merely a span of three seconds felt incredibly slow, as if it lasted three hours.
First second. Ruthlessness jumped onto the dinner table, a savage smile on his face, half-kneeling on the table, feverishly wielding a dagger, thrusting it down. His flaring nostrils and licking lips were enough to reveal his excitement and rushing adrenaline.
First second. Indulgence, who should have been paralyzed from the waist down and unable to stand, suddenly lifted her head. Although various dishes had been knocked over on the table, and soup stuck to her face, her beaming, ravishing smile remained. With her charming smile, Indulgence floated like a cloud, catching the dagger thrust by Ruthlessness with her left arm, tensing her muscles to prevent the dagger from being withdrawn, while her right hand dagger naturally stabbed towards Ruthlessness’s left chest.
First second. Madness, with an insane look, followed closely behind Ruthlessness, stabbed forward with a dagger at the same time as Ruthlessness, but her target was not Indulgence, but Ruthlessness’s left back. At this moment, Madness breathed heavily, her cheeks flushed with excitement, and even during her high-speed movement, her left hand was still uncontrollably pressing on her lower abdomen.
First second. Elegance slowly put down her knife and fork, her slender fingers reaching for the pristine white dinner napkin nearby. Pannis was ferociously eating with his fork, casually picking up a dinner napkin and roughly wiping his face with it. Suspicion’s body remained slumped on the chair, but his violent gasping had apparently ceased.
Second second. With the sudden change, a rare look of terror appeared in Ruthlessness’s eyes. The tightly-clutched dagger had already pierced Indulgence’s arm and was constrained by her muscles. He didn’t futilely attempt to pull out the dagger, but readily abandoned his weapon, putting his right hand on his chest, trying to block Indulgence’s attack whilst shrinking his own body to avoid fatal vital points.
Second second. Indulgence’s eyes held a frigid and scornful look, like a woman waking up and disdainfully ridiculing the stranger beside her in bed, her cold eyes filled with murderous intent. The dagger, flickering with Aggression, summoned a gust of death, ripping through Ruthlessness’s hastily cast shield like paper, drawing a trail of blood and striking Ruthlessness’s heart on the left chest.
Second second. Madness, cheeks flushed and eyes hazy, let out a euphoric moan. If not for the knowledge of what was happening, others might think she was the one being stabbed. But in fact, her blade almost simultaneously with Indulgence’s, plunged into Ruthlessness’s back.
Second second. Suspicion’s tightly shut eyes suddenly opened, a shortsword appeared in his hand. Gone were expressions of pain from his features, his entire body abruptly tensed, the muscles in his legs and arms rapidly contracting and shaking as if about to break out with terrifying speed and strength in the next moment.
Second second. Passion, nearly unconscious, suddenly shone a light in her blurry eyes, her half-closed eyes shooting open, her pale face from loss of blood and pain was suddenly radiant, her seemingly weak body emanating a strong oppressive force, the murderous intent like a blade emerged from her fingertips, sharply pointed at Suspicion being ready to bounce.
Second second. Elegance, lightly wiping her lips with a snow-white dinner napkin between two fingers, suddenly flicked her fingers, and the napkin was still fluttering in the air when she silently disappeared from her seat, leaving only a clean plate and cutlery set neatly to one side.
Second second. Pannis lifted the corner of his mouth, flung the dinner napkin from his right hand into the air, like a petal floating on the wind as it fell slowly to the floor. What also fell was the metal fork in Pannis’ left hand. As soon as it lost its grip, it fell, striking the silver dish, resounding in a crisp sound, just like the strike of a clock before the curtain rises.
Second second. Muir, who had been aimlessly fiddling with his violin strings with a feathered arrow up until now, abruptly closed his eyes. The sharp arrow in his hand was already strung and fully drawn on his violin, the arrowhead radiated with the glow of magic, the chocked arrow pointed at where Elegance had disappeared.
The second second. Catherine’s shield heavily hit the ground. Behind Catherine, Lina, with her silver hair, silently began to chant a prayer. The divine power of the Goddess of Mercy pierced through the vast space, constantly converging around Lina under the guidance of the prayer. Next to Lina, Vivian stood with her right hand raised, a strong magical fluctuation emanating from above her palm, condensing into a silver-white ice spear. The pointed end of the ice spear aimed at Suspicion, ready to leap at any moment.
The third second. Suspicion froze as his gaze met the murderous look of Passion. His impending leap suddenly halted, feeling the power of the magic lock from afar. The muscle at the corner of Suspicion’s mouth twitched. Maintaining his original posture, he hesitated for a while, then sighed softly, slowly dissipating the power that was about to explode. The thorn sword in his hand disappeared again, and he slowly sat back down on the chair with a bitter smile.
The third second. Passion utilized an unknown method, seemingly breaking free from the confinements of his wound within an instant. He joined forces with Vivian, suppressing Suspicion’s intention to take advantage of the chaos while being grievously wounded. Upon noticing that Suspicion had sat down, relaxing the power he had wound up in his muscles, Passion painfully grunted once, and once again collapsed onto the chair. His wound was bleeding profusely, seemingly more severe than before, he even lost the strength to cover the wound with his hand.
The third second. Seeing Suspicion sit back down, Vivian let out a low hum. She thrust the raised ice spear heavily into the ground, leaving a penetrating round hole in the thick velvet carpet.
The third second. Lina let out a soft yell, Denia’s compassionate gaze fell on the collapsed Passion, the Divine Spell’s gentle light fell on the terrifying scars on Passion’s abdomen, slowly suppressing the wound. Such a severe injury could not be healed with a low-level Divine Spell that only required two seconds to be cast, but it could temporarily control the condition of the wound, preventing it from further worsening. Under the shine of the divine light, Passion’s complexion visibly improved.
The third second. Elegance reappeared in her seat, reaching up to catch the napkin that bounced up a second ago, placing it back to her mouth to resume the previous unfinished wiping motion. Although she looked no different from a second ago, Elegance’s gaze was fixed on Pannis’s face, as though trying to etch Pannis deeply into her memory.
The third second. Pannis also reappeared in his seat, with a faint bloodstains appearing on his face, everything else remained unchanged. Pannis opened his hand in front of him, the falling napkin landed right in his palm. Clutching the napkin, Pannis grinned at Elegance, who was staring at him, shaking his head, making unclear tutting sounds from his mouth.
The third second. The taut strings of Muir’s harp gradually relaxed, removing the arrow from the strings leisurely, accidentally brushing all the strings with the feathers of the arrow, giving off an appealing series of notes from low to high.
The third second. Indulgence forcefully pulled out the dagger stuck in Cruelty’s chest, a large amount of fresh blood squirted out from the wounds, splashing Indulgence’s face at close range. Indulgence paid no mind to the blood on his face, his right hand swung once again without hesitation, the dagger stabbed into Cruelty’s chest for the second time, bringing the smell of blood with it.
The third second. Mad, laughing silently, seemed to have lost all senses and crazily stirred the dagger embedded in Cruelty’s back, the narrow slit of a wound instantly turned into a terrifying blood hole. Mad laughed loudly as he pulled out the dagger, his next attack aimed straight at Cruelty’s nape of the neck.
The third second. Cruelty let out a dreadful hiss, though caught in severe pain and fear of death, he managed to maintain his sanity and make the most correct decision. As the two daggers were pulled out one after the other, Cruelty took advantage of his small size, twisted his body and slipped out of the encirclement of Indulgence and Mad like a fish. He turned around and darted out like an arrow leaving a bow, traveling more than ten meters within a second, heading straight for the closed window not far behind the decorative columns. Cruelty’s decision was indeed the right one, as long as he could escape from here now, Indulgence would definitely not dare to leave Passion behind to pursue him, the others also wouldn’t miss the chance to grab their share of the cake left by Curiosity. In this way, he could take this opportunity to slowly recover, as long as he could survive, when he reappears after his injury is healed, he would still be the captain of the "Shadow Hand". As for the share of cake that Curiosity left behind, he might not be able to get it, but it doesn’t matter, there will be plenty of opportunities in the future, just...just if he can escape now, just if he can survive.
The window was within his reach, going through it would be his hope of survival, going through it would mean that he had not failed today. All the enemies were left far behind, no one had time to catch up with him, even Legendary the archer wouldn’t have time to shoot an arrow, this feeling of excitement from escaping death made him want to cheer loudly.
Cruelty ran with all his might, but during his high-speed run, his body suddenly jerked, took several steps further before stopping his steps next to the window, hands resting on the window frame, he looked back in disbelief.
"For such a big world, why do you have to hit my beautifully tuned string?" Pannis dropped the napkin in his hand, resting his chin leisurely as he looked at Cruelty, whose eyes were full of horror, "I said, the debt from the sewers, I would collect it from you today, I never lie at these times."
Cruelty’s lips moved, looking up to the ceiling as if to see the night sky through the building. Three bloodlines appeared on his neck, upper abdomen, and thigh, the blood seeping out of the bloodlines became heavier and heavier. With a deep sigh, Cruelty closed his eyes in despair, his body no longer able to maintain its original integrity, falling apart into five smooth sections on the ground. (To be continued.
