Chapter 333: Chapter 45 - Reinforcements from Afar_1
"Ah~~~" Catherine moaned as she woke up from unconsciousness, momentarily unsure of where she was. Without opening her eyes, she felt a warmth enveloping her entire body, making her feel too lazy to get up.
"I’m actually still alive," Catherine whispered to herself, slowly opening her eyes. Upon opening them, what greeted her was a path made of luminous stones: "So I’m still here, why is it so noisy around?"
"Marcia, aim for those ghosts, attack, kill them."
"No, I’m a lover of peace..."
"I’ll cook later."
"So, are they the ones? Ahhhhh~~~"
"Sir, I feel that you are a bit disrespectful towards the servants of God."
"Hahaha, that’s a misunderstanding, Priestess Teresa. By the Wind God, I have great respect for Gods. If you don’t believe me, let’s find a quiet place to have an in-depth discussion about the doctrine of Wind God, how about it?"
"You’re standing too close." "Bang."
"Ouch, why are you kicking me? It hurts."
"The Gods teach us; you deserved to be kicked."
"Hey, are they really Gods when they say things like that?"
"Stop the chatter." "Bang."
"Ouch, why are you hitting me too? Aren’t we on the same team? What about the promise of watching each other’s back?"
"Shut up, or you’re coming with me to deal with the ghosts."
"I apologise, please forgive my rudeness."
"Although I would love to empathize with you, in order to uphold my honest character and firm belief in Wind God, I must say, you deserved it."
"Bastard, what are you doing this close to me? Get away, go away. And you! Don’t think you’re off the hook because you’re pretty – I haven’t forgotten you’re a man too. Begone, away you go."
"Why are you looking at me? I didn’t get close, I’m just drawing."
"Definitely not a good drawing, admit it, are you drawing nude women again?"
"Again? This word makes me want to carry out the death penalty on you on behalf of the queen."
"Ha, Pannis, it’s you," Catherine smiled sincerely, struggling to sit up.
"Miss Catherine." The face of Pansy appeared above Catherine, cheering with joy: "Thank God, you’re finally awake."
"How long was I unconscious?" Asked Catherine.
"Not more than ten minutes." Mimosa said happily: "Didn’t expect you to recover so quickly."
"Big sis, you’re awake." Lina’s head popped out from beside Pansy: "How do you feel? I cast many healing spells on you."
"Thank you, everything is fine." Catherine sat up with the help of Pansy, looking around, she noticed not only their group was present in the sewer, but also several outsiders: "What are you doing here?"
"That’s exactly what I want to ask you." Pannis also walked over, his face still adorned with a playful smile, yet his eyes harbored some strange emotions: "Why are you here?"
"Of course we are here, this is the City of Innocence." Catherine said in surprise: "How could you not know we are in the City of Innocence?"
"This is the City of Innocence?" Lina exclaimed uncontrollably: "Sis, you must be joking."
"Seems like something interesting has happened." Catherine stroked the hair of Vivian, who was still paralyzed beside her, and sighed: "Tell me your experiences when we rest later tonight, and also how you ended up here. It’s surprising that you, who should be thousands of kilometres away, would magically appear here and timely save us four. Hmm, how did you save us? What about the giant puppet? Did you lose it? No, we’re still at the same place as before, where’s the puppet?"
"You don’t remember anything?" Lina looked at her with a strange expression, as if she was holding back her laughter, and asked: "Don’t you remember what you did before you fainted?"
"Did I do something laughable?" Catherine’s face turned red, she smiled awkwardly and said: "Sorry, I don’t remember anything."
"It’s nothing to worry about, sis, your final act was very heroic." Lina patted Catherine’s head: "Do you remember the card that Pannis threw to you? Without that card, nobody could have saved you."
"Card?" Catherine furrowed her brow, trying hard to recall what happened before she fainted: "It seems like I did catch something."
"It’s next to you." Pannis pointed to a spot next to Catherine: "It’s right there, you can see it if you turn around."
Catherine turned her head, indeed she saw a thin card laying on the ground, emanating a silver glow under the cold fluorescence. She picked up the card, wiped it off and held it closer. The card, although thin, was hard and seemed to be cut out from a Blank Crystal. On the card’s surface, there were many rough traces that looked like goblin script. Flipping to the other side of the card, there was a smooth plane about a finger’s width running through the card, which was distinct from all the uneven parts. Putting her face close, she could see her own reflection.
"What is this?" Catherine flipped the card back and forth, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t make out how this small card was the one who had saved her. But before she could ask further, she noticed the girl who had just been bought off by a meal enthusiastically charge out and return with a grin, carrying a giant sword that was as tall as a person.
"Mr. Pannis, mission accomplished." The female swordsman casually jabbed the gigantic sword into the ground, the tip hitting the ground with a heavy thud, revealing the sword’s weight: "When’s mealtime?"
"Umm, there’s no rush." Pannis chuckled wryly with a fluttering gaze: "We need to set up camp before we can eat, hahaha."
"Mr. Pannis." The female swordsman’s hand went back to the hilt, she looked at Pannis with a dangerous gaze, like a savage beast eyeing its prey before launching the hunt: "You weren’t just making empty promises to fool me, were you?"
"How could that be, hahaha." Pannis chuckled stupidly as he scratched the back of his head: "I’m so honest, how could I possibly fool you? Haha, let’s set up camp now, yes, right now, hahaha."
"Really?" The female swordsman still looked at Pannis with skepticism, her voice full of doubt. "Is my intuition failing me?"
"Indeed, it surely must be. Let’s all set up camp together, it’s getting late, we should rest." Pannis nodded seriously, calling out to everyone. As soon as he turned his head, he grimaced behind their backs, mumbling to himself, "Tch, that’s why I hate those who rely on their animal instincts for judgement. They’re too sensitive."
Catherine looked at the group with an expression of perplexity as they busily began setting up camp. A few of them were evidently unfamiliar with the tasks at hand; even lighting a fire caused chaos. Although they eventually managed to start one, such a simple task took almost half an hour and left a trail of soot across the cheeks of two girls. No, not two girls; one of them had a distinct Adam’s apple. It was a pretty man: "The existence of such people in this world speaks of a deep-seated malice against women."
"Haha, big sister, have you seen Enbow?" Lina and Catherine sat back to back, allowing Catherine to lean against her for comfort. "That’s what I thought when I first met him too."
"These people..." Catherine hesitated, "They’re the elite from the various churches you met on your way to Delsaran? Some of them seem to have never done this kind of outdoor work before."
"Yes, it’s them." Lina was in the middle of a staring contest with Vivian, whose only movement was her eyes. Hearing Catherine’s question gave Lina an excuse to blink a few times secretly, which infuriated Vivian. "Those are the Temple Faction, not the Civilian Faction. Even when they go outdoors, there are many low-ranking monks to serve them, they certainly don’t do grunt work. However, they aren’t so bad. Over the past few days, they’ve been trying hard to learn what they can, they’re quite self-aware, so they’re not particularly annoying."
"What about you?" Catherine asked with a teasing smile, "Why aren’t you doing your part? Instead, you’re here bullying Vivian."
"They gave me the day off today. Hahaha," Lina chuckled smugly as she prodded Vivian’s puffed face. "They told me to look after you, big sister, and this dummy here. They’re very considerate."
"I think you should hurry and prepare some fire-resistant equipment," said Catherine solemnly. "Otherwise... a murder might happen very soon."
Just like Catherine had noticed, Teresa and Ben from the Wind God Church and Enbow from the Temple of Balance, had never done this kind of tedious work before. Tasks like making a fire, clearing ground, and assembling a tent, left them in utter chaos. Thankfully, the presence of Pannis, Marcia, and the elf Muir, ensured that the camp was successfully set up. Even though the three Temple Faction individuals were clergy, they were amiable and didn’t disdain the all nitty-gritty work. They considered themselves ordinary people and tried hard to learn the tasks they weren’t adept at. Even the two Wind God believers, despite their usual tension with Lina and Pannis due to their conflicts over attracting followers, frequently sought advice from Lina and Pannis, representatives of the Earth Goddess Temple. This attitude made it hard to find them annoying. Soon, a small camp was set up in the sewer, and a large pot was placed on the blazing fire pit. Pannis stood by the pot working, soon filling the sewer with a delicious aroma.
"Where did you get the firewood?" Catherine asked, puzzled. "No, this isn’t firewood, what kind of fuel is it? Where did you find it?"
"We picked it up." Lina smiled mysteriously. "We previously..."
"Stupid Lina, die!" Vivian, who was resting her head on Lina’s thigh, suddenly jumped up. She waved her hand and launched a huge fireball at Lina. "Accept divine punishment." (To be continued.
