Walking through the world of the underground sewer, their eyes filled with the glow of cold fluorescent light, the air thick with a stifling smell. The only sound in their ears was the wind blowing through the pipes. From the dried up troughs underfoot, startled animals and magical beasts occasionally ran past, their movements causing the pebbles at the bottom of canals to clash together, creating a delicate noise. From within the profound depths of the distant pipeline, occasionally came the faint call of a magical beast; passing through countless twisted pipelines, the calls became eerie and spine-chilling.

"Why would there be a continuous gust of wind down here?" Catherine asked confusedly as she felt the breeze, "Isn’t it deep underground?"

"No one knows the answer," Vivian shrugged. "There’s often such a wind in the goblin ruins, but despite thoroughly searching the ruins, no one could find where the air is exchanged. No one knows how they achieved this. Therefore, this particular method of air exchange, like their metal alloy formula, has become one of the five great unsolved mysteries of the Goblin race in academic circles. The first is the mystery of the Goblin extinction."

In the breeze that blew past, occasionally there was the sound of metal scraping. Somewhere distant, a puppet was moving. Additionally, rhythmic murmurings periodically were carried by the wind, like someone whispering into your ear, yet no one could make out what was being said.

Annie quietly peeked out from Catherine’s chest and, sensing lingering resentment in the air, occasionally pointed in a certain direction causing Catherine to lead the team in that direction. As they walked, they kept their guard up, ready to fight the puppets that might appear from anywhere. Vivian was even more busy than Catherine, fortunately, she has been used to handling puppeteer magic. Otherwise, she would run out of hands. Vivian held the live map given by Indulgence in both hands. At the same time, she controlled the mana threads, suspended a piece of paper in the air next to the live map, and drew the paths they had passed through on the paper according to the changes in the live map, expanding the range of the map. Pansy and Mimosa, the two maidservants, looked at each other. Their only task of illumination has been replaced by the glowstone above, thus they were idle. They took out the daggers used for self-defense from their thighs and stood protectively on either side of Vivian, doing their best to keep up with the professionals.

"Beep," a sudden short alert sound took four fully concentrating travellers by surprise, followed by a string of incomprehensible voice echoing from all directions. Catherine, shielding the three at her back, swiftly moved to the edge of the pipeline, prepared to face potential changes. Nonetheless, no changes occurred, the voice ended, and silence soon resumed their surroundings with no anomaly whatsoever.

"Vivian," Catherine didn’t let her guard down. She kept scanning her surroundings, without turning her head, she asked, "Was that Goblin language just now? Can you understand it?"

"I can’t understand." Vivian gave a wry smile, "I can only understand some of the text, but when it comes to listening, I’m at a loss. Alas, it was only when I encountered this problem did I realise how important it is to master oral and auditory skills in a foreign language. However, it’s not completely incomprehensible, I can catch a few words."

"Can you guess the meaning?" Catherine asked, "The general meaning would be enough."

"It should be some kind of warning," Vivian guessed hesitantly, "Something about a change and then something about avoiding something. It seems to have something to do with height. That’s all I can guess, basically meaningless."

"No, it does make sense," Catherine slowly put down her Falcon Shield, "I suppose it’s not a sign of cleaner puppets showing up, that’s good news. But the bad news is that this ’change’ they talked about could be a bigger problem than the cleaner puppets."

The four of them came to a stop uncomfortably, hesitant. They wanted to proceed but were worried that the change mentioned in the voice might bring unpredictable danger. On the other hand, they also wanted to stay where they were but were concerned about the supposed ’change’, which might have already occurred while they were unaware. Either way, they felt they were stuck between a rock and a hard place.

"I just remembered a joke," Vivian said with a forced grin, "Three hundred years ago, there was a period when the Mage Guild and the ancestors of the Beastman Tribe, the Temple, had academic exchanges. One year, a Beastman shaman went to the Starshine Tower for advanced studies. The shaman had crammed the common language before his departure and could normal read most of the magical documents, so he came quite confidently. Upon his arrival at Starshine Tower, he was warmly received by one of the disciples there. He was given living arrangements, detailed explanations of the customs and taboos of Starshine Tower, and was even told the three spells to open the magic door of Starshine Tower. However, people later discovered that this shaman had a strange habit. Every time he passed through the magic door, he would do it while standing on his head, without exception. Everybody found this curious but also thought it might be a Beastman custom, so nobody asked further. The Shaman studied in the tower for two years and finally decided to return to the grassland. Before he left, his friends couldn’t help their curiosity and asked him about this confusion, and the answer was both funny and sad. It turned out that when the disciple explained the magic words to him for the magic door, he told him that as long as the body was in the correct position, the order of the magical words could be inverted, and this wouldn’t affect the door’s judgement. But the Shaman, who was not good at listening, mistakenly thought that he had to keep his body in an inverted position to not affect the door’s judgement. Hence, he had been passing through the magic door head down for two years."

"That was a great joke." The three of them stared at Vivian blankly as she chuckled, Catherine crossed her arms and said, "Although I didn’t get the joke, it did help lighten the mood. It was pretty hot before, but now it’s refreshing, that’s definitely your doing."

Vivian turned gloomy as she stifled her smile, saying sulkingly, "Maybe I misunderstood. Should we keep moving?"

"Might as well." Catherine nodded, "There hasn’t been any changes for so long, let’s move forward, we just need to be extra careful."

Before the sentence ended, a metal rubbing sound came from inside the wall. From a position about five to six meters above their heads, a metal blade, one meter wide and over ten meters long, shot out from the inside of the wall, extending forward, hugging the edge of the canal, and penetrating deep inside. It extended almost to the bottom of the canal before stopping. Not only from above their heads, but every ten meters or so, three metal blades from the left and right sides and directly above protrude and extend to the bottom of the canal, all the way to the end of their field of vision. Looking closely, it was actually not a metal blade, but a metal plate. The edge was wrapped in a chain with small, sharp teeth. The sharp teeth emitted a chilling air. After all the metal blades were in place, a "beep beep" reminder sounded, the chains began to spin rapidly, and at the same time, the metal plate began to push forward along the direction of the pipe, stopping only after advancing ten meters. After another "beep beep" reminder, the chainsaw retracted back into the wall, everything went back as if nothing had happened.

"Maybe, sometimes that Beastman Shaman is right." Catherine said with a bitter smile: "Vivian, your jokes are quite profound."

"This chainsaw... should be used for automatically cleaning large volumes of rubbish from the canal." Vivian said: "It’s not really a trap, it’s a great threat to ordinary people and lower rank professionals, but it’s useless to upper rank professionals. Although it can destroy the bodies of gold rank people, it cannot break through the shield."

"Yes, it can’t break through the shield of aggression or magic." Catherine nodded: "But its cutting can consume a lot of aggression or mana, which is also a problem."

Pansy swallowed hard, whispering, "If we were in the canal just now, my sister and I would have died once."

"No." Catherine replied: "The advance is actually quite slow. We have enough time to activate our shields to block it and then cut the chainsaw. However, we seem to have to be a little cautious about these non-trap traps."

"So like we said, for safety reasons, you two should never stray too far from us." Vivian emphasized again: "Remember."

"Okay, I don’t know when the next cleaning will be." Catherine stood up from the corner of the wall and said: "Let’s take this opportunity to hurry."

Just as she stood up, Catherine suddenly noticed the pupils of the two maids contracted. Their gaze fixated on her chest, but after a few seconds, quickly moved away, pretending they hadn’t seen anything. Lowering her head, she saw Annie poking her head out of the locket, curiously watching the two maids.

"Ah." Catherine sighed with distress, rubbing her forehead: "You saw, didn’t you?"

"No, we didn’t see anything, really didn’t see anything." Pansy blurted out almost shouting, she and her sister had seen far too many people in the City of Innocence suddenly disappear because they knew too much. They were very clear, many times, knowing a secret only leads to death. And she also understood that facing the two upper rank professionals in front of them, she and her sister had no chance of resisting. So when Catherine asked, Pansy didn’t hesitate to shout her answer, but only after it left her mouth, did she realize how ridiculous her answer sounded.

"Sister, it’s useless." Mimosa gave a bitter smile and took her sister’s hand: "We saw, yes, we saw an Undead girl. But you, if you want to kill us, even if it has no effect, we will definitely fight back."

"Do you have the habit of sleep talking by any chance?" Catherine asked, her expression calm.

"Phew, thank you." Pansy immediately grasped Catherine’s veiled meaning, and breathed a sigh of relief: "We definitely won’t say anything about it, and we don’t have the habit of talking in our sleep, thank you."

"Actually, big sister doesn’t care at all." Vivian said casually: "Quite a few people know about this. We’re hiding it from you just to avoid the trouble, you don’t have to worry. For something as small as this, if she killed people, does big sister still deserve to be a knight? Also, you two are going to leave the City of Innocence, try to think about things from the perspective of places outside the City of Innocence. Not everywhere will make people disappear over small matters."

"Thank you, we understand." Pansy and Mimosa once again bowed, their manners less restrained.
