The thickness of Vivian’s flame cage had surpassed eight meters. The Marrow Eaters had not entirely escaped the range of the flames, but fell into a sea of fire. However, these magical beasts, with a strong will to survive, once again mustered all their strength to jump again. They made use of a gap that was slightly lower than the others on the cage to preserve their lives, escaping the range of the flames and rushing away at the fastest speed possible.
"As I said, solve it in one go." A hint of a smile was on Vivian’s lips, her faint smile under the flickering firelight was full of chilling coldness. As the group of magical beasts completely escaped the flames, Vivian clapped her hands with a smile and the elemental fire disappeared instantly, returning the earth to darkness.
The abrupt change from extreme brightness to extreme darkness had a great impact on all the creatures around, whether they were humans or magical beasts. They all, at the same time, lost their vision and fell into an artificially induced blindness. In their blindness, everyone pulled out their weapons and assumed defensive postures, only to heard the sharp screams from Marrow Eaters filled with despair, gradually drifting away.
"That’s it, solve it in one go." Vivian snapped her fingers, and the campfire, which had just been extinguished, whirred and burst into a huge flame again. As the environment became brighter, the screams of the Marrow Eaters abruptly stopped and the sound of continuous heavy objects falling began to resound, repeating more than ten times before the surrounding area returned to its previous silence.
"Heh, should I say, ’The profession that relies on brains for combat is indeed amazing’?’’ Pannis, who had adapted to the darkness and regained his vision, gave a bitter smile and sighed, "I never thought that you would use such a method to solve the battle."
"To fight with the least amount of strength, in the most clever way, that is the charm of magic and knowledge." Vivian had a mature and wise smile on her face, and she whispered, "Isn’t this what makes a mage special?"
"So..." Dora stuttered, "Did you make the Marrow Eaters jump off the cliff to commit suicide?"
"Exactly." Pannis walked to the edge of a pit, looking down at the deep, dark hole, "Using the difference in height of the flames, they were lured to break through in that direction. The width of the flames confused them, making them rush forward, then using the difference between light and dark to blind them temporarily. Then, they fell to their deaths."
"Mages, mages." Dora let out a long sigh, shaking her head, "No wonder people think mages are the most unpredictable profession, they are indeed very... cunning."
Lina came over with a goblin illuminator, opened the illuminator and shined it into the pit. Unfortunately, the depth of the pit exceeded one hundred meters, and the effective range of the illuminator was only fifty meters. The scattered light only allowed people on the cliff to see a hazy shadow on the ground, unable to clearly see the condition of the beasts.
"No need to shine anymore." Pannis shook his head and said to Lina, "After they fell, there was no movement, struggles, or cries of pain, nothing at all. We can basically confirm that they all fell to their deaths. After all, not many creatures can survive a fall from a height of over a hundred meters."
"So..." Lina turned off the illuminator and asked, "Does this mean that we can confirm that this hazard is initially eliminated?"
"Essentially." Pannis glanced at the deep pit and turned back, "Problem solved, everyone go back and rest. There are still three hours until dawn, enough time for more sleep."
"Forget it, we won’t sleep." Dora shook her head and said, "Capitan Antoan, you guys rest a little longer. After all, you experienced a long defensive battle yesterday and need adequate rest."
"We may as well." Antoan clenched his fist, a series of cracking sounds emanating from his knuckles, "Stefana has already recovered most of her combat power. Three hours is neither long nor short, not that significant. Since Captain Dora, you don’t need rest either, let’s just set off now while the Flashing Vine is still lit."
"That way is also good, saves us from dragging on." After twisting her head in thought, Dora nodded in agreement, "What do you think, sister?"
"Whatever you like." Catherine seemed indifferent but motioned for Dora to come over, "Come here, I have something for you."
Calling Dora to one side, Catherine handed her a hard-shelled backpack, cleared her throat and said, "Take this with you, you might need it."
"Hm?" Dora looked at Catherine in confusion, peeked into the backpack and was immediately taken aback. A not-so-large backpack was divided into many small compartments, with three layers of compartments. Each layer fixed twelve small bottles, all placed neatly in the backpack. The compartments were designed to hold the bottles firmly in place, with absolutely no shaking. The surrounding spaces were filled with gas-filled sealed leather, which completely eliminated the possibility of bottle breakage. Dora shut the backpack with a pop, surprised, "Potions? Sister, are you really my sister? Did you eat something wrong? You’ve completely changed. You’re not like yourself at all, you’re even willing to give me precious things."
"Enough talk." Catherine glared at Dora with a pained look on her face, "Do you want it or not? If you don’t, give it back to me quickly."
"I’m not giving it back." Dora slung the small backpack over her shoulder, flung herself into Catherine’s arms with open arms and shouted, "I knew you were worried about me, sister, I love you the most."
"Get off." Catherine kicked Dora aside, huffed and said, "Bring the stuff over here and I’ll explain how to use it, so you don’t end up unable to use them when you need to."
"Yes." Dora indulgently snuggled up to Catherine’s side, sitting closely against her. Seeing Catherine about to hit her, she immediately opened the small bag she held protectively in her chest and said "Be careful, don’t break the potions."
"You guy." Catherine glared at Dora harshly but could only sigh helplessly in the end, pointing at the potions in the bag and explaining, "Remember, this row is Invisibility Potion. It allows the user to become invisible for ten minutes. You can move around, but if you touch a creature or attack, it will cease to work. Remember, it can only make you invisible, it cannot shield sound or smell, so be very cautious."
"This row is Poison Suppression Potion. It’s not a real antidote, but it suppresses the spread of poison by inhibiting the body’s internal movements. Unless it’s a fast-acting poison that directly damages internal organs, it can suppress any serious poison. But be careful, this potion can only suppress for three days, and during these three days, the user will become progressively weaker, because eating and drinking will not have any absorption effect. It’s like you haven’t eaten or drunk anything for three days, so within these three days, you must find a priest who can cast purification or antidote spells to detoxify. Don’t ask me why, I don’t know either. If you have questions, go ask Vivian, but you definitely won’t understand her answer."
"This row is a regular antidote, it can neutralize and suppress low-level poisons, but it’s not effective against more potent or high-level poisons."
"This row is Rage Potion, which stimulates the body’s potential capacity to explode. After using it, you need five days to recover. You know what I’m talking about, so I won’t say much."
"This row is True Sight Potion, it can see through most invisibility effects, has no restrictions, or adverse reactions. However, hehe, I wouldn’t recommend you use it yourself."
"Why?" Dora asked curiously, "What’s wrong with me using it?"
Catherine leaned over to Dora’s ear and in a creepy, deep voice whispered, "If you drink this potion, not only can it see through invisibility, it might occasionally allow you to see lingering spirits, hehe."
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh." Dora screamed while covering her ears, "Don’t scare me, senior."
"The last row is the Wind Force Potion." Catherine solemnly continued to introduce the potions as if the previous joke had nothing to do with her, "It blesses the user with wind-attribute magic and boosts your speed by double for thirty seconds. However, it doesn’t improve reaction ability, so if you are not afraid of bumping into trees, take it while running."
"The top layer, first row has Petrification Potion, allows oneself to turn partially into stone, gaining multiple times the defensive power but slowing speed. We’ve all used it, so I won’t say more."
"The second row is Healing Potion, which are four medium-effect bottles. They can replenish body vitality and accelerate the healing of external wounds. The effect is very good."
"Here is the most crucial part." Catherine pointed solemnly at the last four vials and said, "The red one is also a Healing Potion but with a high effect. After taking it, unless an essential part is injured, it can basically heal any injury. Even if there are too many injuries, the life energy in the potion can still effectively alleviate the degree of the injury, extending the duration of support. This bottle is life-saving, you must keep it safe."
"The other three bottles, if smashed, can release attacks corresponding to the three elements of earth, water, and wind. The effect is close to a Gold-Rank Mage’s attack. Remember, don’t ever smash them at your feet, else you’ll bear the consequences."
"I’ve remembered it." Dora carefully stored away the small backpack and bowed deeply to Vivian, "Thank you, Vivian."
"Don’t thank me." Vivian waved her hands flusteredly and said, "It was big sister’s request."
Dora flew into Catherine’s chest, rubbing vigorously while saying, "Senior, I love you the most."
"Go to hell." Catherine kicked Dora down, grabbing Dora by the neck and yelling, "From now on, you shall not come within five meters of me. Heard that? Absolutely not."
"Ahem, although I don’t want to interrupt your emotional exchanges." Pannis, expressionless, stood by their side and with an emotionless voice said, "But I must remind you two, they have finished their preparations and are waiting for you two to finish your ’exchange’. "
"Ah?" Like being shocked, Catherine hastily tossed Dora aside, hurriedly neatening her hair and clothes, saying awkwardly, "I’m sorry, I’m sorry, we’ve kept you waiting."
Choking and struggling to get up, Dora took the backpack handed over by Night Owl, changing to a serious expression she said, "Thank you all for your care and attention during this month-long journey. I won’t say anything redundant for now. Let’s meet again at Karatomir, no, I should say, I’ll be waiting for you in Spindle Village."
"Take care along the way." Catherine, no longer joking, watched as their temporary companion left the camp, reminding them from a distance, "Be very careful, we will find you in Spindle Village once we’re done."
The torches lit up and the expedition formed of adventurers and mercenaries, holding torches, disappeared into the pitch-black morning. It left behind only the four members of the Nellie Adventure Team and a guide in this desolate area.
