"Roar!!!"

"Roar!!!"

A human and a wolf stood face to face, their eyes locked, constantly emitting threatening roars from deep within their throats. In this intense stare-off, Lina’s momentum gradually amplified whereas the huge black wolf seemed to wane. Within a few minutes, the giant wolf let out a short whimper, retreated a few steps, and respectfully lowered its giant head. Seeing the reaction of the giant wolf, Lina finally satisfiedly licked her upper lip, raised her paw, or rather, raised her left hand to every so gently pat the black wolf’s hanging head. Vicious giant wolf at this moment turned into a docile child, came up to Lina, feeding her affection by rubbing its shiny black head against her. Each and every wolf from the wolf pack behind followed suit intimately expressing their submission with their bodies.

"Awoo~~~~" Having finished communicating with the last black wolf, Lina let out a long, piercing wolf howl once more. Almost immediately upon the end of the call, all the newcomers started howling as well, expressing their affirmation and support for their newly encountered wolf king through different voices. Within the forest, more and more wolf howl came from distances far and near, growing closer and more dense by the second.

Without paying heed to the responses from afar, Lina resumed her steps, chasing after the trace of the fox pack. The bloodthirsty and cruel wolf pack seemed to not have seen the likes of Pannis, Vivian and Catherine at all, and totally ignored them. They closely followed Lina’s footprints.

"What’s going on...?" Vivian was thoroughly befuddled by what was happening before her eyes, and asked quizzically to Catherine and Pannis, "Did Lina completely transform into a wolf?"

"Don’t talk more than necessary, also don’t try to talk with her, just follow." Catherine shook her head and said, "Right now she is not Lina or Diana, she is the king of the wolf pack, we have to maintain her majesty."

"I understand," Vivian bit her lip, somewhat worried she looked at the silhouette of Lina: "She won’t transform back at all..."

"She will," answered Pannis, "even though I don’t understand the reason for her current situation, judging from earlier experiences it should be a temporary transformation, she definitely will return to her form."

"Ok then", Vivian slightly relaxed and nod her head, "let’s keep following, we should solve today’s problem as soon as possible and make sure that Lina returns."

Keeping the three humans and the distant mercenaries in her consideration, Diana maintained a slow pace, leaving none of the wolves in the pack attempting to take lead. Along the march, new wolf packs of varying sizes joined the procession, with Diana responding with a howl each time a pack joined. Perhaps due to the enormous imposing aura and majesty of Diana, or perhaps it was the presence of a powerful behemoth wolf beside the wolf king. No head wolf of the new packs created any ruckus as the initial black wolf did, and accepted her title as the Wolf King without a doubt, and joined the wolf pack procession directly.

Thirty, fifty, one hundred...the count of the wolves joining the pack kept increasing and the size of the pack kept growing. Within the forest, whenever a wolf pack that heard the call of the wolf king responded with a howl, it helped the farther wolf packs realise the call of the Wolf King, rallying them towards her. At one moment, hundreds of square kilometers of forest came alive with the sound of wolves growling, responding to Diana’s call and making their way towards her without any delay, regardless of their current location. They were responding as if to a pilgrimage. In a span of an hour, the count of wolves exceeded five hundred. It was clear that all wolf packs within a few tens of kilometer radius were quick to respond to Wolf King’s call and had hurriedly traveled to Diana’s location.

These five hundred vicious, strong giant wolves formed a bloodthirsty stream that swept through the forest. None of the beasts, weak or strong, dared to challenge them. Even the higher ranked beasts that held territories had no other option but to backdown and could not hinder wolves. The large wolf pack freely moved across the forest, completely ignoring the powerful magical beasts.

("This...is the Wolf Tide," sighed Pannis, keeping pace at a safe distance from the wolf pack, "So this is how the Wolf Tide is formed, such a rare sight indeed.")

("The Wolf Tide? The legendary Wolf Tide?" Catherine exclaimed, covering her mouth to stifle her gasp.)

("Yes, the very same Wolf Tide as you had in mind.") Pannis nodded in response, ("As of now, the size is quite smaller, still budding, but give them a few days and the sheer size of the Wolf Tide would be absolutely harrowing.")

The Wolf Tide is a terrifying phenomenon of the Yarran Continent, the last of which took place more than 130 years ago in the Beastmen Prairie. The specific reason for its onset is unknown today, but the spectacle of that time is often used by the beastmen to scare their disobedient children.

It’s said that during the last Wolf Tide, over two hundred thousand prairie wolves gathered around the Wolf King, creating mayhem in the western side of the Beastmen Prairie, leaving no living things in their wake. To fight against the Wolf Tide, three major tribes in the western prairie came together, sending almost twenty thousand well-equipped, highly trained Beastman Warriors. Together they encountered the terrifying Wolf Tide
