Chapter 1550: Chapter 336: I Won the First Game
Pannis’s leg, like a rod of metal, was almost infused with all his energy as he heavily smashed it into Nellie’s left waist. However, Nellie didn’t even glance at Pannis’s movement; she completely ignored this heavy attack. It wasn’t surprising that Nellie reacted this way. According to the world’s rules, Pannis, as a mortal attempting to attack the body of a Deity, could only achieve one of two possible outcomes. One was that the attached energy was insufficient, lacking even the qualification to be judged by the rules as an attack, thus having no effect whatsoever. The other outcome was for the rules to judge it as an attack against a Deity, after which the attack’s effects would be entirely reflected back onto the attacker. Aside from these two outcomes, a third possibility simply didn’t exist—to have an effective attack, one must possess strength powerful enough to break the world rules established by Lord Yarra.
Clearly, Pannis was not capable of breaking Lord Yarra’s rules, and whether it was because the prolonged combat made him overlook that his combatant was Nellie’s Divine Body, leading him to design his tactics as if facing a mortal opponent, or due to any other reason, he executed an attack that could not possibly be effective and could only injure himself. This wasted an opportunity to attack and also exposed a significant defensive flaw, so Nellie’s battle instinct didn’t waste any energy on his attack. Her left hand already retracted to her side, her palm taut, ready to strike out like a Thorn in the next moment.
With a "bang," the leg whip, facing no resistance, struck Nellie’s body, producing a dull sound. As expected, Nellie was unaffected; the kick didn’t even manage to make her body sway. However, the corners of Pannis’s mouth turned up slightly, revealing a look of successful scheming. Seeing his expression, even if it was only instinct controlling her body, Nellie’s heart couldn’t help but pound violently a few times, an irrational worry arising within her.
What happened next would surely have been recorded in history had there been any onlookers, for it was the first time someone had used the divine rules against a Deity. Pannis’s leg whip, carrying an extremely powerful force, easily passed the divine judgment, recognized as an attack against a Deity. Hence, the self-protection rule of Divinity took effect, and the attack was returned to Pannis’s own body. However, the attack returned by Divinity’s protective mechanism was not a simple rebound of force but an actual reflective repercussion. In simple terms, the part of Nellie’s body Pannis hit, the corresponding part of his own body would endure an attack of the same force—thus, Pannis effectively kicked his own waist, the force so great it made his spine emit a painful groan.
Yet this was not Pannis’s goal; he had no penchant for self-harm, and naturally, this was not his intention. His real purpose lay in the effect brought about by this kick.
The tremendous force slamming into Pannis’s left waist, with no resistance from himself, resulted in his body being lifted off the ground by the leg whip’s power as if he were shot out like a crystal energy cannonball. At a speed too fast for even a Demigod’s vision to follow, he flew straight into Nellie’s embrace, in the direction of the applied force, crashing into her.
Common sense dictated that such an act was unachievable; standing opposite Nellie, no matter how Pannis planned, it was impossible for him to receive such a tremendous propelling force from behind that would aid him in breaking through Nellie’s safety perimeter and adhere to her body. Even if he had the means, Nellie would not grant him the opportunity. Nevertheless, in the heat of battle, by exploiting the self-protective ability of Divinity, Pannis succeeded. Originally facing Nellie, his body turned sideways during the kick, presenting his right side to her, and with his left ribcage bearing the brunt of the force, he charged straight into Nellie’s embrace, without even a slight change in angle.
The battle had continued until now, and Nellie’s battle instinct had already calculated the upper limits of Pannis’s speed and strength. As for the extremity of Pannis’s speed, her battle instinct had made a judgment long ago. Even if Pannis’s strength were to burst forth and momentarily surpass his limits, it wouldn’t exceed her estimations by much. Therefore, she wasn’t too concerned about Pannis’s actions, expressionlessly squeezing and reducing Pannis’s combat space bit by bit. But this time, Nellie’s expression finally changed. The knight’s pupils contracted, her muscles tensed up, and the tremendous energy unique to a deity surged within her. Yet Pannis’s speed was unexpectedly fast, and before Nellie’s arm could thrust out, Pannis had already broken through her defense range and crashed into her embrace.
A "thump" echoed as bodies collided, and another dull sound arose. Under instinctual control, Nellie’s complexion turned exceedingly ugly. Her body was making a countermeasure, but compared to the speed at which Pannis had hurled himself toward her, her responses were just too slow. She knew that there was nothing left between her and Pannis—not an obstacle in sight—and he could thrust his Hunting Arrow into her at any moment.
But where was the Hunting Arrow? Nellie’s instincts could sense that the Hunting Arrow was still on Pannis, but she couldn’t pinpoint its most threatening presence, uncertain of where Pannis had concealed it. What she could ascertain was that it definitely wasn’t in Pannis’s hand. She could clearly see that Pannis’s hand was empty; upon getting closer, his remaining three limbs wrapped around her body and limbs like octopus tentacles, tightly holding her in embrace.
Nellie’s body was extremely rigid. Naturally, her divine instinct couldn’t comprehend the meaning behind Pannis’s action, nor understand why he would waste such an opportune moment. For a time, excessive surprise caused her divinity’s instinct to forget to react. For several seconds, she stood frozen in place, giving Pannis more time and opportunity for an attack.
However, Pannis still did not bring out the Hunting Arrow, nor did he launch an attack; this was not surprising at all. The Hunting Arrow couldn’t possibly be truly effective, and even if it were, Pannis wouldn’t actually want to use it to stab Nellie. It only made sense that he did not initiate an attack. So, while Nellie stood motionless, Pannis simply held her tightly, controlling her movements, placing his face close to her ear, enduring the pain in his body, and with a hint of smugness, he said, "Dear, I won the first round, didn’t I? You’ve already lost once, hehehe."
A "thump" resonated again as Nellie’s instinct finally reacted, and another dull sound accompanied by a thick mist of blood and fragments of limbs splattered from Nellie at the center, radiating outward. For a moment, the air was permeated with the pungent scent of the Blood Offering.
