Chapter 1516: Chapter 302 We were all fooled

"Tap, tap, tap." The anxious footsteps echoed continuously within the empty corridor. The tightly closed doors of the ritual chamber, along with the walls of the corridor, created a semi-enclosed space that amplified the light footsteps, turning them into a wave of noisy clamor by the time they reached one’s ears. The door to the ritual chamber wasn’t locked; it would open with a gentle push, but none of the people waiting outside dared to push it open. They preferred to wait anxiously outside the door rather than confronting, without any buffer, the person who might emerge from the Door of Mist—or rather, not seeing the Door of Mist allowed them to comfort themselves psychologically. If they kept staring at the Door of Mist and Pannis didn’t come out, the ladies would probably be driven mad by anxiety. Of course, even waiting outside the ritual chamber didn’t mean that the ladies weren’t already on the brink of madness.

"Stop being an idiot and quit pacing back and forth," the frail Vivian snapped as she sat with her legs bent in a corner of the corridor, unusually not immersed in her own world but glaring at Lina as she walked restlessly back and forth in the corridor. "Apart from a donkey turning a mill in a small mill, I’ve never seen anyone walk in circles as much as you do. Aren’t you tired?"

"I’m very tired, but I’m also anxious," Lina said with frustration and unease on her fair and delicate face, not restrained by Vivian’s rebuke but as if she had found someone to vent to, speaking hastily, "Why hasn’t he come out yet? What is happening? Is there any danger, or did Her Majesty the Queen guess wrong, and it’s not Lady Nellie? If that were the case, he should have come out by now, right? He won’t refuse to come out, will he? If so, that would be..."

"Enough, enough, you’ve already asked me similar questions six times," Vivian groaned, clutching her head in pain. "You should let your friends take control of your body; at least they would be calmer."

"They don’t care," Lina said with a sense of grievance. "They said, ’One’s family matters are for one’s self to resolve.’"

"Well, you can’t torture me just because they don’t care," Vivian moaned. "If you’re really worried, then push the door open and have a look. If that’s not possible, you could rush into the Door of Mist. Although we are Legendary, we could probably last a few minutes in there, enough for you to understand what’s happened."

"I can’t go in there. What if by entering, I end up affecting Pannis’s fight? I don’t want to be the cause of his death," Lina said, shaking her head fiercely. "So we absolutely can’t go in."

"You know it too," Vivian rolled her eyes, speaking discontentedly. "Knowing that, just sit down quietly with me. Look at the ground; you’ve worn a path in it already."

"But I’m also very anxious," Lina said as if it were the most natural thing. "How can I possibly sit still?"

"I might as well kill you," Vivian said, facing upwards as if about to cry. "Please, even if you need to walk, can you at least be quiet about it? Look at Annie, she’s been following you in circles without making a single sound."

"Cut the crap, Annie is floating around, and you, Lina, stop spinning and go sit down." Catherine, having experienced a great deal more than she had just over a year ago, appeared much steadier. Along with Freya and Flare, she was huddled in a corner, quietly discussing something until she was interrupted by the raucous noise of the two girls. She then showed the manner of an elder sister by sternly saying, "Quiet down for a moment. Nobody can be certain what specifically is going to happen next. Everyone needs to adjust their own state, especially you, Lina. Calm down a bit. Based on our judgment, if the Queen’s information is accurate, then no matter what, he should be coming out soon. Even if he can’t bear to part with Lady Nellie, he would first come out to let us know he’s safe. So, if he doesn’t come out soon, that means there is indeed trouble, and we need to be prepared for the worst. However, regardless of the outcome, the first thing we need to do is calm down. Only when we are calm can we be ready to help him when he needs it."

"Fine, fine, you’re the eldest, what you say goes," Lina muttered unhappily and walked over to sit beside Vivian, casually embracing the floating Annie in her arms, continuing to grumble, "I just can’t sit still because I’m worried. Thinking about what he might be going through makes me nervous. God, if it were to kill the malevolent god that stole Lady Nellie’s body, that would have been one thing. But now, to ask him to actually kill Lady Nellie herself, it’s unimaginable if she truly has the heart to do it."

Catherine gave a dry look to the priestess in the corner, but she didn’t rebuke her for the disrespect toward her idol. In fact, even Catherine herself harbored some complaints deep down, just as Lina had voiced. The two situations were entirely different, and the blow to Pannis would be drastically different. Catherine even dare not think, if she were in Pannis’s position, whether she could bear such immense grief.

"Your Majesty." After hesitating for a moment, the knight girl couldn’t help but ask doubtfully, "Does Pannis really have to kill Lady Nellie to proceed?"

"You know I cannot give you a one hundred percent certain answer," the Queen shook her head, her voice always song-like, now tinged with a hint of sadness," I can only speculate based on her character. She would disguise herself as Danacus to lure Kyle here, and the only purpose could be to have Kyle kill her. The reason for this must be that Danacus is on the verge of losing control and she hopes to resolve all issues while it’s still manageable. And Kyle... well, he will undoubtedly do it. He will hesitate, struggle, but in the end, he will follow through."

"Why." Ava, who had been standing silently like a statue beside the group, suddenly asked blankly, "Indeed, that’s the most logical course of action. But, based on batch sample analysis, it is very difficult for sentient beings with emotions to do so."

"No reason, just because he is Kyle," Flare softly commented, "He knows what to do at what time and understands the consequences of his choices. He is clearer on this than anyone else, so, he will definitely fulfill Nellie’s request. As for what will become of him after that? No one can say for sure. It all depends on him now."

With a "rattle", a faint sound was heard, but to the ears of the ladies, it was as booming as thunder. In an instant, all eyes were drawn to the source of the sound, to the grand doors of Between the Rituals.

The doors were slowly being pulled open, and among the gasps of the girls, there was Pannis, stumbling out from Between the Rituals, covered in wounds and bloodstains on his clothes. He barely made it through the doors before urgently saying, "We’ve all been deceived."
