Chapter 1351: Chapter 137 Someone is looking for you

"So it’s like that, huh?" Nals lifted his bone-made goblet and took a shallow sip from the green liquid, pondering as he spoke, "It seems we were just a step away from war. Ah, if war had broken out, it would have caused serious harm to both sides."

This was Nals’s home, the largest house in the village, which also served as the venue for small meetings led by the village chief. Hence, his house had to be spacious enough to accommodate everyone. Here, everyone had finally satisfied their curiosity by witnessing the interior of a bone-structured room. In reality, aside from the materials used, it was not much different from a typical wooden house. A multitude of leg and arm bones, firmly fixed together by the Energy of Death, were used as beams and columns of the house. Rib bones, tapered at one end and wider at the other, were interlocked like interlaced canine teeth to form bone panels. Layers of these bone panels were then plastered together to create an airtight roof, walls, and doors. The furniture in the room was also made of bones, rather more petite compared to that in the human world, likely due to the limited length of the bones.

On the bone-made table, there were many products unique to the Realm of the Dead. The villagers, touched by the unprecedented gifts they received, had brought over plenty of crops from their own farms, including homemade wines and beverages. Some even brought a skeletal horse and a ghostly war ox. The girls were deeply touched by these gifts but declined them without hesitation, causing the Undead who had brought the horse and ox to complain that they would be mocked when they returned home. However, the village chief understood the living beings’ difficulties and only kept the crops and beverages. As for the ox and horse, they were sent away immediately.

The troublesome noise finally ceased, and all the curious Undead villagers were ushered out by Nals, allowing everyone a chance to sit quietly in the room and pour themselves a drink. There were various beverages available: the green one was a clear fluid made by boiling Coffin Lichen with water and filtering out the impurities, giving a cooling, refreshing sensation that clarified one’s thoughts when consumed by living beings. The gray beverage was a product of drying and grinding a mixture of graveyard moss spores and Bone Mushroom, dissolved in warm water, which had a faint sweet and fragrant taste that made one repeatedly crave another sip. Besides the beverages, there was also wine made from death berries, which, despite its strange acid tang amid the spiciness, became particularly appealing once one acquired the taste for it.

There were so many crops and beverages that the eight visitors couldn’t have finished them in half a month and had to take them with them when they left. The returned gifts were piled up carelessly in a corner, except for one knight who paid them any further attention. The focus of everyone was on the conversation. As soon as the exchange began, Pannis and Catherine shared a look and decided to selectively inform Village Chief Nals about the situation outside.

"How many Undead are there on your side?" Pannis asked tentatively, "It doesn’t seem like there are many that I’ve seen."

"Last year’s census reported just over seven million," Nals replied without any hint of concealing this sensitive information. Perhaps it was because of Pannis’s identity as a Grimreaper or for some other reason, but the old village chief answered candidly, "The number is not small, but if war were to break out, every casualty would deeply pain us all."

"Seven million," Catherine’s eyes briefly clouded with worry. Indeed, compared to the vast number of living beings, seven million was not a large number. At most, only one million might be combat-ready. But if each Undead could control at least three unconscious puppets, the forces of the Undead would be a tremendously large number. Moreover, considering that the high-end battle forces were not few, with a significant advantage in the number of Demigod Undead, if war truly broke out, it would be devastating for the living. However, the current situation was still the best possible scenario, at least both sides were still restraining themselves calmly and not letting war erupt. If the Undead were ever to revert to their original traits under the influence of Danacus, the impact on sentient beings would be enormous."

Chief Nals didn’t leave much time for Catherine to ponder. He graciously poured everyone a cup of lichen juice, guessing, "Since you’re willing to share this with me, you must have come to our world, hoping to find a way to prevent the war, right?"

"Hmm, in some ways, you’re not wrong in saying that," Pannis mused, squinting and smiling. "Due to certain reasons, our thoughts differ from most creatures. We would rather prevent a war that’s been provoked unnecessarily than strive to win it. However, coming to your world was for a different purpose, one you should know, as I am a guest by invitation. Of course, the primary purpose was to meet your leader."

"Ah, that really should be the case," Nals slapped his head hard, frustratedly saying, "But luckily, you came along, otherwise, we would have no idea about the thoughts of other creatures, which might have led to misunderstandings."

"How could that be? Even without us, there are other ways to establish contact between both sides," Catherine replied with a humble smile and a shake of her head. "Mr. Torum and the others in the main world will eventually have a chance to interact with other creatures, and then... Ah, I see why Mr. Torum and his group always reject negotiators from approaching. They know they can’t communicate properly, and the creatures don’t understand them. Mr. Nals, didn’t your team take any ghosts with them when they went building?"

"Ah, we didn’t anticipate this kind of trouble," Nals said, scratching his head humanly and giving a bitter smile. "Do you really understand nothing at all if there’s no ghost to translate?"

"If there’s no ghost translating, we don’t understand a thing," Pannis shrugged, helplessly responding. "So, you really should bring a few translators with the army."

"I understand now. I’ll arrange for some ghost villagers to go there immediately for emergency assistance, then report back to the capital," Nals said. "Let’s put this aside for now and talk about something important, the king is looking for you."

"Oh, the king is looking for us, but who is the king?" Pannis suddenly realized the implication in the village chief’s words and asked in surprise. "Have you already established a king among the Undead?"

"Yes, our king, the ruler under the deity of the Realm of the Dead," Nals nodded. "He is looking for you."
