Chapter 1259: Chapter 45: Surprise
"Bang, bang, bang," accompanied by a muted boom, several mists of water sprayed into the air with a hissing sound of bubbles, turning into fine droplets that showered down like dew, enveloping the Mage girl inside. The glistening droplets slid down the hastily opened Magic Shield due to surprise, leaving a moist trace on the ground. Vivian stood with her mouth half-open, shocked at everything before her, the brain of a genius that could stun the entire Magical World, yet unable to comprehend what had just happened. After the burst of mist, there were countless sparkling shards, large swathes of tiny bits of paper that spat out from confetti cannons at the same time, densely filling the air above where the girl stood, falling softly like fine snow. The shiny scraps, like a rain of petals, settled on the girl’s head and shoulders, who had closed her Magic Shield, as if she were covered in a colorful blossom.Through the mist and confetti, the girl could see familiar faces, each with a joyful smile, which in the dim room seemed to emit a dazzling light, brightening Vivian’s bewildered eyes. The owners of those smiles, holding champagne still foaming and confetti cannons, gathered at the door, uncertain how long they had waited to create such a surprise, but clearly, they had no complaints about the lengthy wait, as every gaze was filled with joy and excitement, intently focused on the Mage girl’s face.
"You all... What is this..." Vivian opened her mouth, but couldn’t articulate a complete sentence, just staring blankly at these familiar family members. Her brain, already stiff, struggled to process, and it took a long while before she slowly realized what was happening, and a radiant smile gradually appeared on her rigid face, her eyes shimmering slightly as she softly said, "Everyone... I’m back."
"Oh~~~ bang, bang, bang." Amidst the girls’ cheers, another batch of confetti cannons was released, this time all the scraps of paper shooting straight into the sky, covering everyone. Catherine, now in a long gown, tossed aside the champagne bottle and walked up to the girl in a few steps, embraced the petite Mage tightly, and lifting her above her head, her voice choked with emotion, said, "Welcome back, my sister. You were simply amazing. I am proud of you, we all are."
"No, it is I who am proud." Held aloft by Catherine, Vivian looked down at her surrounding family members, her vision blurring a bit, sniffed loudly, and said, "I am proud to live in this family, proud to have such family members. You all are my best friends, my dearest relatives, I love you all so much."
"Why the crying? If someone who didn’t know saw this, they’d think we made the universally admired genius Mage cry." Lina, her eyes already red, rolled her eyes playfully and ran behind Vivian, slapping the girl’s backside with a thick book she was carrying. Just as she was about to take advantage of Catherine’s emotional state to slap her a few times too, she caught the stern look of the knight’s eyes glaring at her, forcing Lina to stick out her tongue and quickly move away from Catherine, giggling, "Big sis, don’t look at me like that, it scares me."
"Lina is right, big sis, how can you cry at a time like this?" Freya, secretly wiping her eyes, held her chest and with a lyrical tone, sang out as if in an opera, "The drums of war have stilled, songs rise again, cheers of victory spread everywhere, flowers and applause extend to the ends of the heavens and the earth. In the high strains of victory, the gods lift their diamond-studded golden cups, pouring sweet wine for the warriors, sharing in the glory of victory hand in hand. This moment is for laughter and joy, not for tears and crying..." she stopped as Lina tapped her head again and protested, "Ow, what? No, you rascal Lina, you hit my head too?"
"Eh? Did I do that?" The frenzied priest girl blinked her sparkling eyes, innocently claiming, "I didn’t do anything."
"Don’t think I can’t tell the difference between a magic staff hitting my head and a book smashing it." Freya snapped angrily, "And playing dumb won’t work, I saw what you did."
"Alright, alright, stop it, you two, and thank you. We’ve stopped crying," Catherine said as she kissed the Mage girl’s flushed face and finally put her back on the ground amidst Vivian’s laughing protests. Wiping away the unstoppable tears, she cried and laughed, "I’m just so happy. Seeing how brilliant you are now and remembering the pains and hardships you’ve gone through, I just can’t help but feel terrified. I’m really scared, sob, sob, sob. Every time I think of how you suddenly fell, I shudder with fear, sob, sob, sob. Now everything is fine; your health is back, and your wishes have come true. I really am, really..."
"Big sister, stop crying, or I will start crying again," Vivian said, snuggling against Catherine and softly spoke, "Whether it’s my health or my wishes, having all of this today is because all of you have been with me. Without you, I couldn’t have done anything on my own. Everything I have is because of you. I want to be with you forever, to be a family forever."
"Of course, we will always be a family," Catherine said as she crouched and hugged Vivian tightly, saying loudly, "Everyone should never be apart."
"Enough, big sister," Lina said to Catherine. "Don’t forget what day it is today."
"Right, right, I had almost forgotten," Catherine said, nodding vigorously and pulling Vivian by the hand. "Now is not the time to talk about this. Today is your day; let’s celebrate properly, celebrating our genius Mage becoming a hero admired by all! Let’s cheer for her."
"Oh, oh, oh, oh!" The children who had been waiting nearby immediately cheered and threw themselves at the Mage girl, playfully knocking her to the ground, while the other girls also piled on in excitement. However, poor Freya was soon kicked to the side. Only the mature and composed Nicole and Rachel stood to the side, smiling and shaking their heads as they watched the group of kids and big kids making a mess.
"How long is forever, really?" Squeezed together, the girls hadn’t noticed yet, but Pannis, with his arms crossed, leaned in a corner. His indifferent gaze was inscrutable, and only he and those close to him could hear his voice, "You cried too."
"Why did I cry too? I clearly felt so happy; shouldn’t you smile when you feel happy?" Blonde-haired Ava, mimicking Pannis’s posture and standing next to him in a similar stance, looked quite in sync, "And why am I happy? It’s something that’s unrelated to me. I shouldn’t feel emotional about it. Weird, isn’t it?"
"Hehe, the reason is simple," Pannis’s previously solemn expression relaxed, and as usual, he stroked the girl’s head, "Guess correctly, and you’ll become a real human."
