Chapter 1227: Chapter 13 Pannis’s Conjecture
"I certainly didn’t appease them, I guess," Pannis walked in and casually closed the door behind him, "they already had an inkling that we wanted to have a private conversation. They’re not fools, just too polite to call me out on it."
"Sar... so... lar," Flare whispered a few syllables softly, a wave of magic emanated from her, swiftly clinging to the surroundings of the room. She then spoke with a gentle smile, "Please take a seat, I’ll be done here in just a moment."
"Your use of soundproofing magic still has that unique flair," Pannis shrugged, sat down on the wooden stool opposite Flare, and lazily leaned against the wall, speaking leisurely, "There are simpler spells available, yet you insist on using the most mana-consuming Drakish magic."
"Because Drakish magic is most effective, ensuring only you and I can hear each other," Flare lifted her head, her smile as delicate as a narcissus, "I presume you wouldn’t want our forthcoming conversation to be overheard by a third party, especially not those young girls."
"Hmm, over a hundred years have passed, and the ambiance here hasn’t changed one bit, still so tranquil," Pannis remarked, as if he hadn’t heard Flare’s words, admiring the arrangement of the room. Indeed, as he had admired, the small room was filled with serene beauty. The four walls of the room were naturally formed by trees, uncoated and revealing the texture of the wood that exuded a plant’s fresh scent. In the center of the ceiling hung a crystal lamp, its dim yellow light illuminating the entire room and filling it with a soft atmosphere. On one side of the room was a naturally grown platform, similar to a table, on which rested a small stove with a quaint teapot, wafting with steaming vapor.
"Ha, after all these years, your way of changing the subject is still as poor as ever. Alright, I’ll let it slide for now; let’s not talk about the girls," her cheeks blushed, perhaps due to the heat from the stove, the queen covered her mouth and chuckled softly, "But I really didn’t expect you to find this place so quickly. Considering you’ve only been here twice, you remember it quite well."
"After all, this is where we first met," Pannis sighed, "Although my memory isn’t the best, it isn’t so easy to forget such an important place."
"That’s the happiest thing I’ve heard today. Ah, the tea is ready," Flare’s smile blossomed like fresh flowers. She sniffed the tea contentedly, lifted the dainty teapot, and poured two cups of clear tea for both Pannis and herself, "This is my favorite tea house. Whenever I’m feeling down, I’d come here by myself, brew a pot of tender shoot tea, and savor it slowly, letting the day pass by. It always feels like a refuge to me."
"So you’re here today because you’re feeling down as well?" Pannis picked up his tea cup, savoring the penetrating fragrance of the tender shoot tea, and murmured, "The aroma of tender shoot tea seems to make one forget all troubles, truly a remarkable tea."
"Do you think I should be in a good mood today?" Flare took a sip of the hot, steamy tea without minding the temperature, closed her eyes to enjoy the fragrance spreading slowly across her taste buds, and only after a while did she speak softly, "Knowing you had returned, my mood was very good."
"It seems that something I said has soured your mood," Pannis held his tea cup, unaware of his blunder, and asked, "Why did you suddenly become upset?"
"Don’t play dumb again, playing dumb won’t help," Flare cast a coquettish glance at Pannis, leaned against the wall like Pannis, stretching her slender legs, comfortably squinting and said, "Now that the little girls are gone, and no one else can hear our conversation, can we have a proper talk now? What exactly are you planning to do?"
"Haven’t you already guessed?" Pannis replied casually, "The biggest concern right now is these transformed Undead, with the presence of Danacus behind them. Under his influence, it’s very likely that the Undead will revert to their original state and deliver a fatal blow to us beings of wisdom. But what if Danacus no longer existed? Then the biggest concern would also vanish, Nellie’s wish, as well as the problems we couldn’t completely resolve back then, could all be solved at once. Isn’t that great?"
"It does sound wonderful," Flare sighed, "But do you know what it means? It means charging into Danacus’s Realm of the Dead, getting past who knows how many intelligent Undead blocking the way, and then killing Danacus who has regained his strength. Do you really think, as easy as you make it sound, that it’s actually going to be so simple?"
"Of course it’s not simple," Pannis shook his head, "But it’s not the first time we’ve done something like this."
"It is precisely because we’ve done it before that I don’t think it’s feasible," Flare huffed, "The last time, one might say we gathered the highest-end combat forces of the Yarran Continent, and what we were up against were countless witless Undead incapable of using tactics. Moreover, it was under the condition that Danacus deliberately allowed us into his temple to further his plan that we were able to successfully reach him. We merely fell into his trap and then turned it against him. This time around, I don’t think he’ll make the same mistake. Not to mention, the enemies we will be facing are no longer without Divine Wisdom but can use tactics. Are you certain you can reach Danacus again?"
"Let’s put that issue aside for the moment," Pannis said leisurely, "Do you have any other concerns?"
"Of course, I do," Flare said, "Even if you manage to reach Danacus, so what? How many times did we try last time? Did you manage to hurt him even a little? Without divinity, we cannot inflict harm on a Deity; that’s a rule of divinity that no strength can defy. What other outcome could there be apart from repeating our last failure if you reach Danacus?"
"Not necessarily, Flare, everything is different now," Pannis said, narrowing his eyes, "Danacus is no longer the Danacus of a hundred years ago, and I am not the same as I was a hundred years ago."
"I’ve already felt the sudden surge in your strength, and the feeling you give me now is even more difficult to fathom than that of the Dragon Mina," Flare nodded, "I admit that much, but even so, you can’t break through the rules of divinity."
"Have you forgotten the curse upon me?" Pannis retorted, "That’s proof that I’ve been touched by divinity. Although this bit of divinity comes from the same origin as Danacus’s, it’s possible to use this trace of divinity to activate the Hunting Arrow. With the power of the Hunting Arrow, it’s entirely possible to kill Danacus, whose strength has not fully recovered. Don’t forget the Hunting Arrow’s full name; it’s the Hunting Arrow of Deity Slaying. Only those with divinity can bring out its full potential."
"Do you think Danacus is an idiot?" Flare countered, "Would he knowingly let you come after him, not retract his power, and allow you to kill him?"
