Chapter 1218 - 4: Silence

Chapter 1218: Chapter 4: Silence

"I really regret it now," Catherine made a face as if she was about to cry and looked aggrievedly at Muir, who was helpless beside her, and said with a quiver, "Mr. Muir, I always thought that after fighting side by side twice, we were friends. But, but, why would you harm us?"

"Hey, having Kyle turn out like this is bad enough," Muir rolled his eyes and said, "You say you’re a knight, but is it appropriate for you to talk like him? Don’t think that just because we are friends, I won’t get angry."

"But we are really scared," Lina hugged Vivian, who was beside her, and amid the mage girl’s look of disgust, she said with a sobbing voice, "Wuwuwu, big sister, I’m so scared. Do you think we might get silenced?"

"Idiot, get away from me, it’s so hot," the unbearable mage girl pushed Lina away, who was clinging to her, and straightened her crumpled soft hat, pouting as she said, "Use your brain. How could we be silenced? At most we would be threatened to keep it secret, and if we don’t agree, the whole world would hunt us down."

"Isn’t that still silencing?" the priest girl said with her hands on her hips, "What you’re talking about is the process of silencing, what I’m talking about is the outcome. Our thoughts aren’t contradictory at all."

"You guys tone it down," Muir gritted his teeth and said bitterly, "It’s just passing by here, and I get all this teasing from you. If I had known, I wouldn’t have passed through here. Hurry up, let’s go to the rest area."

"Tsk tsk, you guys are too mean," even as Muir hurried them along, Pannis still turned his head to tease the girls, "It’s not right to ridicule the Elder Council so excessively; although most of its members seem to have some issues here, you should always leave people some room when you speak. Such an unmistakable mockery of their highest institution, of course they will be angry. You should learn from me. Look, even though I know their elders are not quite right in the head, I would never say it outright."

"You’ve already said it," Catherine sighed, shaking her head, "And there’s something I think I need to tell you. There are a few King’s Court guards on the tree with arrows pointed at you right now, and I think, they’re about to lose control and let go at any moment."

"Hey, this is a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding!" Pannis immediately covered his head and let out a scream, dashing into the beautiful treehouse at the end of the tree trunk, which was also a resting place for guests of the Elder Council. Of course, there were no arrows following behind him; despite their discontent, the King’s Court guards would never openly shoot at the guests of the Elder Council. The sound of bowstrings was just a joke from some friends Pannis had made while wandering the Lost Forest with his team years ago.

"Serves you right," Muir led the others into the tree house and they sat around the large conference table in the center. He casually slapped the wall of the treehouse, and immediately, several vines fell from the top of the treehouse down to the conference table, each vine bearing plenty of brightly colored fruit. The fruits were full and glossy, emitting a rich sweet fragrance that was hard to resist biting into.

"I really wonder if throwing you into the desert would mean you wouldn’t die of hunger or thirst," Pannis casually plucked off a purple fruit and bit into it. The thin skin of the fruit was easily torn by his teeth, and the soft flesh mixed with the sour-sweet juice conquered his sensitive taste buds in an instant. Pannis closed his eyes in enjoyment and didn’t open them until he had swallowed the entire mouthful of fruit, then he exclaimed, "Back when I was lost in the Sighing Desert, if I could have had a few fruits like this, that would have been the ultimate enjoyment."

"It seems you’re still very concerned about the Sighing Desert." Muir sat down beside Pannis, shrugged off the hand that was competing with his for the fruit, picked a green cuisha fruit, and sniffed it before saying, "Indeed, by now, all the powerhouses in the Yarran World, no matter where they physically are, their minds must already be focused on the Sighing Desert."

"It’s inevitable. Look at those few inside your group, aren’t they making such a fuss over what’s happening in the desert?" Pannis sheepishly withdrew his hand, then suddenly snapped it out like lightning, stealing a green fruit identical to the one Muir had picked. He took a proud bite, only to immediately scrunch up his face in distress, letting out a miserable howl, "Damn you, Muir, this is your doing! You must be trying to poison me because we heard something we shouldn’t have."

"I like sour things, the sourer the better, so I purposely picked a few unripe cuisha fruits." Muir took a bite with an unchanged expression, leisurely saying, "It’s your own fault, you idiot, for thinking this was something good and insisting on taking one. I’ve warned you, don’t you dare waste it. You have to finish what you’ve bitten into unless you want to face the deity’s condemnation. This is a teaching from the Forest Goddess Herself."

"Being condemned is better than dying from sourness," Pannis complained, clutching his cheeks, "I can’t take it anymore, my teeth are going to fall out."

"Stop causing a scene." Catherine took the fruit from Pannis’s hand, which he offered up as if gazing at a deity, and sniffed it. A tart scent immediately filled her nostrils. The girl stuck out her tongue, not hesitating to thrust the fruit back into Pannis’s hand, ignoring his stunned gaping mouth, and spoke as if nothing had happened, "Mr. Muir, how much longer will your Elder Council meeting last?"

"That’s really hard to say, the longest one ever went on for over forty hours." Muir replied with a wry smile, "But Her Majesty the Queen should sense that you have arrived, so, it probably won’t be too much longer."

"I hope your definition of ’not too long’ is based on human time perception." Catherine asked curiously, "By the way, is your Elder Council always this... lively?"

"Uh, about that question, hahahaha." Muir gave a dry laugh, habitually strumming the Flaron Harp to cover his embarrassment, "It’s not always like this, hahaha, sometimes it’s very calm, yes, very, when there’s nothing special happening."

"All right, I understand." Catherine faced the darkness before her, as the elves’ image was completely shattered in the girls’ eyes. Even though Pannis had joked before about the elves being vengeful and crazy, in the girls’ minds, elves were still beings of elegance and freedom. But this time, the girls finally caught a glimpse of elves’ hidden nature.

"I feel like I can never look at Flare the same way again." Catherine muttered to herself with a wry smile, "It’s unbelievable."

"In the Elder Council, I can only be this way too." The door to the treehouse was pushed open from the outside, and Her Majesty the Queen, as noble and graceful as a valley’s daffodil, gracefully stepped in, her voice gentle, "Everyone has another side to themselves that comes out occasionally."
