Chapter 1193: Chapter 305 Pannis’s Mistake

The battle between the rituals erupted once again, and this time, it was particularly fierce compared to previous battles. Finally, Pannis seemed to have cast aside all concerns, entering the same calm state of mind as Nora. At this moment, in the consciousness of both individuals, nothing else existed besides each other. Perhaps after killing their opponent, the victor would return to their own world, living for others and unfinished business. But currently, in their hearts, there was only the opponent and nothing else, to the extent that even the three undead mages by the distant altar were ignored. After all, in a fierce battle between top combatants, the impact of just three Legendary Magicians was minimal and easily disregarded.

For the three undead mages, today was certainly not a good day. They had been chosen to supply the two archbishops with the Power of Death—a great honor indeed. It was only the Power of Death, not Life Force, which could slowly be replenished through prayer. However, the opportunity to be chosen occurred only once. In the eyes of the followers of the dead, although the three archbishops appeared strange and had quirky personalities, they were deeply caring toward their followers. Not only did those who had followed them for decades offer their complete loyalty, but even the younger followers viewed the three archbishops as true elders and family members. Many young followers had been under their care from a young age. Thus, it could be said that in the eyes of most followers, compared to Danacus who had never responded to their prayers over decades, the three archbishops were their true objects of devotion. They were more willing to see the three powerful yet kind archbishops as their deities than the distant Danacus.

Thus, when the two archbishops devised a plan and announced that they needed the children of the deity to provide spare Power of Death to execute it, all followers were highly proactive. It wasn’t just about providing the Power of Death; for the archbishops’ plan, most followers would not hesitate even if it meant sacrificing their own lives. This was why an assassin, though persuaded by the archbishops, still insisted on joining the ranks of the providers, which did not appear out of place but also sowed the seeds of a hidden problem.

The three undead mages originally believed that no enemy, no matter how powerful, could defeat the two archbishops. The two could easily kill any opponent together. But they never dreamed that the archbishops, whom they viewed as divine, would be assassinated by a companion in the blink of an eye, meaninglessly losing their lives. This filled their hearts with rage. If possible, they were very eager to tear the traitor into pieces themselves. What moved them was that the surviving Archbishop Nora still did not suspect them at all. She not only refrained from drawing their Power of Death—she even signaled them never to come out and join the battle, to avoid unnecessary harm. Such trust gave the three undead mages an overwhelming urge to cry, something they had not felt in a long time. If given a chance, they would repay her with their lives.

However, the three undead mages, who had never harbored doubts, were now beginning to worry. Their power was, after all, far inferior to that of the combatants in the battle. They were unable to gauge the real strength of the two in combat, seeing only that their fight was becoming increasingly fierce and dangerous. Eventually, it even surpassed the limits of their sight, and they could no longer see clearly.

In their view, most of the time, Nora and Pannis were invisible. The two maintained rapid movement, their lightning-fast speed making it completely impossible for onlookers to track their motion. Only at the moment of an attack did their speed briefly slow down, and only then could onlookers barely make out their positions and postures. But even then, what was seen were merely afterimages; their actual bodies had already resumed their high-speed chase. Beyond that, what onlookers could perceive were only the occasional bursts of Light Techniques.

But for Nora and Pannis, who were truly in the midst of battle, the situation was far from being as simple as the Undead Mages saw it. The two of them, moving at high speed, needed to be extremely cautious with every step they took; even every move had to be careful. Any mistake would invite an enemy’s weapon without exception. In their eyes, the open area Between the Rituals served as the perfect arena, with no obstacles or obstructions, allowing them to freely run, jump, attack, and even fly.

Just as Pannis had said, if the trend continued, both sides would definitely engage in a long battle of endurance until one side collapsed from exhaustion, which was precisely Nora’s goal. Having inherited Darak’s Energy of Death and fighting within Danacus’s Holy Sanctuary with three devout followers ready to replenish her Power of Death, Nora wasn’t worried about her endurance. She knew that although she was stronger, her lack of experience made it hard to seize the opportunity for a lethal strike, so she decided to drag Pannis into the quagmire of a drawn-out battle. It puzzled her why her opponent, knowing her intention, was still willing to engage in this high-intensity chase.

However, after several minutes of high-speed pursuit, Nora suddenly discovered she might not need to exhaust her enemy to win. Perhaps due to the physical exertion, the enemy seemed to have reached a state of collapse, because she noticed Pannis had made a mistake, a potentially fatal one.

Perhaps because the speed was too fast, Pannis, when taking a step, had his center of gravity shift slightly more than predicted, which caused him to take an extra half-second on his next directional change. For ordinary fighters, this few millimeters of error and half-second might not amount to much, but with someone like Nora chasing, it was enough to change the entire combat pattern and outcome.

Indeed, half a second was enough for Nora to strike. Her dagger, appearing light, yet carried a sharp gust, simultaneously stabbing at Pannis’s back as he changed direction. With no option left, Pannis had to slow his turn even further to block the dagger with his sword. But while his speed decreased, Nora’s did not; her dagger quickly retracted, and she angled herself slightly following the slowed Pannis, striking again from another direction. Unable to retract his sword in time, Pannis could only perform a forward roll, tumbling into his Inherent Psychic Domain to avoid the attack. However, Nora had anticipated this move. She leapt into the air, closely following Pannis’s trajectory within the domain, confident that once he emerged, her descending strike from above would be enough to alter the outcome of the entire battle.
