Chapter 1175: Chapter 287: The Long Battle

How fast is the speed of light? It is said that during the distant Second Era, in the most splendid age of the goblins, numerous scholars attempted to measure the speed of light, but without exception, they all failed. They eventually discovered that the speed of light far exceeded the range they could imagine; to emit was to arrive. The process could be ignored, time could be dismissed. When you saw the light flare up, it had actually already shone upon you.

Pannis now faced such a situation and didn’t even have time to escape into his domain for shelter; he had to face the direct hit from the Light Techniques head-on. However, the one advantage he had was that the moment he saw the light begin to flicker in The Third Eye of the female moribund, he had already started to prepare. Without hesitation, he released the dagger that was being bitten, the Aggression used for cutting and piercing quickly retracted, filling the shield solidified around his body, while his body leaned back, his feet sliding backwards. The white jade stone ground was smooth and even, gliding over it felt like sliding on ice without any delay. While retreating, he managed to catch the one-handed sword that had just been knocked out of his hand by the block before it could hit the ground, and sent several Vacuum Slashes crisscrossing in front of him, ready to meet the imminent attack of the Light Techniques.

However, compared to the light emitted from the forehead, the energy of the Vacuum Slash was relatively weak. Nearly ten almost solidified Vacuum Slashes were crushed into free-state energy in less than a second by the surging light, and the destructive beam continued at its original speed, quickly catching up with the retreating Pannis and completely enveloping his figure. At the same time, the male moribund burst from the side, his two hand axes chopping down with one ahead and one behind, covered by the Light Techniques, at the position Pannis was about to pass. Even if Pannis could withstand the hit from the Light Techniques, he would be heavily wounded by the following axes.

But just as the hand axes were halfway through their arc, the male moribund’s pupils suddenly contracted violently. In his view, a one-handed sword broke through the light unimpeded and shot out directly towards him. Pannis straightened up, gripping the sword hilt tightly behind the blade; man and sword turned into a straight line and charged out. The unexpected response caused his axes to swipe at empty air, and as their bodies crossed, the friction between their clothes even generated a severe rubbing noise. In the process of their figures crossing, Pannis, while in mid-air, took the opportunity to kick backwards, landing a heavy blow on the male moribund’s back, causing him to lose control of his balance and involuntarily stumble forward a few steps, consequently entering the attack range of the Light Techniques himself.

Although he successfully escaped from the range of the Light Techniques, Pannis no longer appeared as relaxed as before. The left sleeve of his swordsmanship outfit was reduced to shreds by the energy impact, revealing the white skin and solid muscles beneath. There were several spots of burn marks on the exposed skin, looking strikingly conspicuous against the charred black. Aside from that, there were no other significant wounds on his body, the only exception being a patch of his golden short hair that was scorched by the high temperature of the light energy, emitting a smell of scorched odor.

Even though he had sustained minor injuries and had just escaped from danger, Pannis didn’t pause for a second. Mid-leap, his arm forcefully propped against the ground, his body changing direction as if ignoring inertia, maintaining an angle almost parallel to the ground, he dove back to the female moribund’s side, swinging his sword in a horizontal slash at her legs. The female moribund sneered and stepped directly forward, as though treading on invisible steps, ascending into the sky within a few steps. Pannis supported himself off the ground again with his left hand, the one-handed sword angling up as if to pursue his airborne enemy. However, before his body could launch forward, a hand axe came spinning from the side, and on the other side, another hand axe held by the male moribund also initiated a pincer attack, forcing him to abandon the pursuit to deal with the interception of another enemy.

From the end of their initial probing to the start of the real battle, within a few minutes, both parties had already switched between offense and defense countless times. Pannis, alone against two formidable enemies, relied on his ample Combat Experience, while the other side relied on their mutual understanding formed over thousands of years and the advantage in numbers. Neither side could successfully gain the upper hand, each struggling to find an opportunity to change the situation amid the deadlock. Throughout the process, none of the three said a single superfluous word; given the hatred accumulated over a hundred years and the contention for survival space, any form of communication had already lost its meaning. It was only through weapons that they could display their stance, and only through death could they cleanse their past hatreds. All hatred and hope would ultimately be submerged in blood and battle, with no room for compromise.

"Boom," the moribund male’s heavy fist hit nothing but air, striking the white jade stone floor. The powerful energy caused the ground to tremble continuously as if artificially triggered Earthfire had erupted. However, protected by Divine Power, there wasn’t a single crack on the surface, making it seem as pristine as if it were new.

"Ting," Pannis’s sweeping slash was dodged, the blade barely touching the ground before quickly retracting, emitting only a faint ting. As the sword was retracted, his figure faded back into the domain, as if he had never appeared at all.

"Hiss," as soon as Pannis stepped out of the domain, the female moribund’s dagger lunged toward him. The enemy’s sensitivity to energy allowed them to detect the faint energy fluctuation of Pannis leaving the domain, and if they were fast enough, they could seize the opportunity to strike first. Clearly, the female moribund was fast enough. This wasn’t the first time such an attack had happened, and it was even more obvious that Pannis had prepared for it, dodging sideways without even a glance and parrying with his sword, neutralizing the enemy’s force.

Chasing, fighting, entangling, countering—three shadows appeared and disappeared intermittently, pursuing and intertwining with each other, changing positions every second, never lingering in the same spot. Amidst the flickering figures, destructive energy and beams shot across the battlefield. If it weren’t for being Between the rituals under Deity protection, even the largest room would have been left in ruins.

The battle continued without any sign of hope for cessation—one minute, two minutes, ten minutes—it seemed endless.

However, just when the fight seemed like it would go on forever, the three figures suddenly collided, and then, like lightning, sprang apart, staggering back more than ten meters to increase the distance between them. Pannis pressed firmly against his left shoulder, where a dagger had left a piercing wound, and on his left arm was a shallow cut from a hand axe. Across from him, the male moribund’s palm had a cylindrical hole shot through it by Aggression, while the female moribund’s right thigh had been deeply slashed by the one-handed sword, the skin folding back to nearly reveal the white bones underneath.
