Chapter 1151: Chapter 263 The way to save Catherine

"So you say that I actually spoke such words to you before my impending death?" Vivian’s dainty mouth was slightly agape as she stared blankly at Catherine, "How could I possibly do that? If I really blamed you, how could I continue to see you as my sister, how could I ever be unwilling to part from you?"

"Yes, big sister," Lina also sighed and shook her head, "Why would you imagine us to be so vile in your dream? Even if, even if I were truly faced with such a tragedy, how could I shift the blame onto you? You are our sister, we would never treat you like that."

"However, I’m not quite satisfied," Freya said with a face full of dissatisfaction, "Why am I like that in your dream, uh, that thing, I would never become someone who doesn’t cherish herself over some messy affairs, and if I really did become like that, I bet father would kill me. But, big sister, you still have some insight, knowing that I would revert to my old self. Just for that, I’ll forgive you for thinking so poorly of me."

"No, I think it’s simply because you don’t have the capability to reach that extent in your current state," Vivian said sternly to her academic archenemy, "In other words, imagining you returning to your original state is just the baseline, otherwise the nightmare wouldn’t hold up. You’re actually proud of that? You’re so dumb."

"Silly Vivian, are you preparing to argue again?" The two of them seemed completely oblivious to the mood, squabbling in front of Catherine, but seeing the two girls arguing, Catherine’s expression softened even more. She was well aware of the purpose behind the girls’ bickering and of course, she appreciated their intentions; the only thing that made her somewhat uneasy was Ava’s behavior. Apart from answering her earlier question, the artificial girl had kept her habitual expressionless face, yet her gaze was fixedly on Catherine, prompting Catherine to ask with concern, "Are you okay? Is something wrong?"

"That wasn’t my line of thinking," Ava replied in a flat tone, "From a logical analysis, even if my identity was discovered now, I wouldn’t be under attack, and even with an exposed identity, it’s not possible that you would have revealed it. It doesn’t make sense for you to do such a thing; it’s illogical."

"That wasn’t her opinion of you," Dillie, who had been lying on one side and seemingly napping, but in reality all the girls knew they could expose their feelings to each other without any reservations and didn’t need to keep watch over their surroundings out in the wild because he was on guard for them and the unconscious Pannis. When they heard him speak, everyone turned their gaze to him, "It seems these Twisted Souls aim to assimilate a target not only through external invasion but also by internally dismantling one’s spirit, like Catherine, they intend to shred what you cherish most using your deepest fears right before your eyes, plunging you into eternal pain and despair. If I’m not mistaken, if you were truly assimilated by them, this entire series of nightmares would endlessly repeat in your consciousness, until your spirit completely collapses, becoming just like them."

"This is awful, even worse than death," Catherine, struck by shock, momentarily felt as though she were conversing with Pannis, but so stunning was the content that she overlooked this illusion, covering her mouth and widening her eyes as she said, "Thank you, Lina, you did the right thing. If I had truly reached that point... Phew, let’s not think about that. Mr. Dillie, may I ask, I heard them mention earlier that you seem to know how Pannis woke me up?"

"Actually, after finding that set of wedding rings yesterday, we talked about it last night," Dillie explained in a muffled voice, "I once asked him, in the face of such a situation, what he would do, whether he had the courage to take off your heads with his own hands."

"That question is quite cruel," Catherine frowned, wanting to say something, but ended up just sighing, "But that’s what adventure life is like, no one can predict what will happen the next second, no one can be sure not to encounter the worst-case scenario, your question is indeed necessary."

"Actually, it’s not that necessary, after all, he is Kyle, no matter how much he’s changed, he is still Kyle, and he has considered all the issues that concern me," Catherine discovered that maybe it was just an illusion after all, because that feeling had already disappeared, and Dillie’s manner and habits of speaking were just typical Dillie’s, "He told me, although the records state that there is no chance of reversal once caught in the twisting process, that was the past, it does not represent the present. He actually had an idea that might, by a very slim chance, reverse the process."

"Is it the method he used?" Catherine murmured thoughtfully, "Sharing the burden with his own soul?"

"Yes, it’s the only solution he could think of, because his soul is special, but this method is extremely risky," Dillie nodded, "You all should know by now, his body bears Danacus’s amplified Death Curse, which at the last moment was reversed by Nellie into an undetermined Curse of Immortality. Since the curse was cast directly by the Deity, affecting both soul and body, as long as the curse remains effective, his soul inevitably carries a touch of divinity, which is why he could enter the Holy Spirit Domain. To the mortal realm, divinity is the highest power, so by his soul bearing the twist with you, that distorting power could possibly melt away just like snow under the sun, especially under divinity of the same origin as Danacus’s, including the one eroding him and the one eroding you."

"This is just speculation, right?" Catherine moved closer to Pannis, her movements gentle as she extended a finger, first looking back to check the expressions of the girls, who, though wearing strange looks, each turned their heads pretending not to see anything, causing Catherine to bite her lip and smile, finally touching Pannis’s face gently with her fingertip and whispering, "He wasn’t sure either, was he?"

"Far from being sure," Dillie grumbled, "Such a conjecture is unprecedented, and while it seems to make some sense, in reality, there are too many uncontrollable factors, I think it’s just a fantasy, with a chance of success so low it’s negligible."

"But in the end, he succeeded," Catherine said softly, "Both he and I are safe now."

"Safe? You think it’s over just like that?" Dillie scoffed disdainfully, "So young and so naive, it’s far from simple, you have no idea, the greatest danger of what you’ve done."
