Chapter 1136 - 249 Dillie’s Domain
Chapter 1136: Chapter 249 Dillie’s Domain
"The formation of a Psychic Domain comes from wisdom and the soul, and only the souls of wisdom creatures have the potential to form an Inherent Psychic Domain. A very few top-level magical beasts may appear very clever, like Jack the hydra in the Southern Marshes, who is somewhat close to wisdom creatures, but that is just close, and their wisdom and souls are not perfect, so no matter what, they cannot form a Domain." Threatened by Lina, Pannis stopped feigning surprise at her having just thought of this question and explained in detail, "However, Dillie is different. It is evident that his wisdom and soul are both complete, and although he lacks the consciousness of a powerful being, he has still constructed his own Domain. Therefore, he is just an exception."
"Mr. Dillie has always been missing his homeland, but where exactly is his homeland?" Catherine stood shoulder to shoulder with Pannis, looking at the spot where Dillie disappeared while waiting for him to reappear: "Listening to his fragmented descriptions of his homeland makes it seem like a very interesting place, yet in the Yarran World, we’ve never heard of anywhere as strange as he describes."
"Isn’t it weirder that he isn’t affected by Soul Assaults?" Pannis shrugged and said, "Actually, a few of us friends have a theory about the little lion. We fear his soul does not belong to this world, that it comes from another world created by Lord Yarra or possibly some other unknown existence, passing through the barriers between worlds. Much of what he mentions, although it sounds absurd, actually starts to make sense when thought about carefully. For instance, if in a certain world, fire doesn’t burn due to an accumulation of Elements but for some other reason, and there are indeed materials that can combust together even without Fire Element, then his description of confining mixed substances in a sealed metal shell to make them explode, creating high-velocity projectiles which even people without Aggression or magic can use, doesn’t sound laughable anymore. Many other things he talks about are like this, leading us to speculate that he might indeed be a wisdom creature from some other world, who for some reason, came to this world, and we have no idea why he became a scorpion-tailed lion."
"What if the image of wisdom creatures in his world is that of scorpion-tailed lions?" Lina’s eyes sparkled with Curiosity as she pressed on eagerly, "That’s not impossible, right?"
"However, that is impossible. Many things he has described, to use them properly, one would need a pair of dexterous hands, which the form of a scorpion-tailed lion cannot achieve," Pannis shook his head, "And another key point, he shows a clear discomfort, even aversion, to his form as a scorpion-tailed lion, yet he seems quite fond of human-like creatures. This strongly suggests that his original form is not too different from ours; otherwise, he wouldn’t be hanging around with Maya and Tiya, those two perpetual children, every day. Those three dunces, and then there’s Curlee, the fourth dunce, sigh."
"Pfft," Lina tried to cover her mouth, but couldn’t help laughing out loud indecently. The young priestess said with a strange expression, "That seems impossible, doesn’t it? Although there have been quite a few precedents between two different races, but between wisdom creatures and magical beasts..."
"Who knows what goes through a dunce’s mind?" Pannis sighed, "Maybe they just enjoy that feeling of sticking together every day, laughing and fooling around. It’s not impossible. Uh, he’s about to come back; let’s talk about any questions later."
Pannis’s judgement of the energy fluctuation was very accurate. Just as he finished speaking, a wave of restlessness surged through the space, and in the next instant, a scorpion-tailed lion, taller than a person, appeared not far from the vanishing point. Its front paws were pressing down on the tragic corpse of a sharp-toothed bear. Its thick mane fluttered in the wind, and it carried an intimidating presence as it lifted its head to the sky and let out a resounding roar. Seeing that Dillie had no wounds, the girls knew his battle had gone very smoothly, and they reassuredly turned their gazes to the spoils beneath the paws of the scorpion-tailed lion, then admitted that Pannis had been completely right minutes earlier: not to mention a semi-living corpse, even if it were a true Undead, it likely didn’t have the ability to stand up and move again.
The state of the corpse was so tragic that one couldn’t help but feel pity at the sight. The first thing seen was the huge body riddled with countless round blood holes, too numerous to count, roughly estimated to be thousands. The girls even wondered what miraculous spatial technique had been used to create so many holes in the body of a sharp-toothed bear. But this was just the beginning. Apart from the blood holes, the bear’s body was torn and ragged like a shredded doll, as if it had been through dozens of crystal energy bomb blasts. While blown to incompleteness, the high temperatures from the crystal energy bombs had seared the entire body to a seventy percent done state, without a single spot missed. The final aspect was the shape of the body; the girls found that the sharp-toothed bear reappeared much flatter, as if, after being cooked, it had also been repeatedly crushed by a heavy weight. All in all, if one didn’t know beforehand that this lump used to be a creature called the sharp-toothed bear, even if Lord Yarra returned, they likely couldn’t confirm its original identity. It was also unimaginable how brutally the bear was treated before death to end up in such a gruesome state.
"You see, I told you, the enemies he pulls into his domain come out looking pretty much like this," Pannis said, pointing at the corpse on the ground: "The first time we saw it, we all were quite startled."
"Scared, huh, hmph," Dillie said smugly, tilting his head back: "Idiot Kyle, if you’re scared, just kneel down and beg for mercy. Cry out ’Dillie, Lord, I was wrong,’ and maybe if I’m in a good mood, I might grant you a whole corpse. Otherwise, hmph, hmph, hmph, this is what will happen to you, grr, damn it, you kicked me again."
"Idiot, your domain only targets enemies with frail bodies. Against magical beasts with strong physiques or demigods with enough aggression, you’ll be the one crying," Pannis said casually as he suddenly appeared behind Dillie, landing another kick on his rear end amidst the scorpion-tailed lion’s roar: "But it does work effectively against things close to the Undead, at least we don’t have to worry about them playing dead."
"Damn you, Kyle, I wasn’t crying, I just got sand in my eyes, idiot," Dillie bellowed, suddenly pausing and turning his head to Pannis: "Wait, these are Undead?"
"Your reaction is indeed too sharp. I can’t help but want to praise you," Pannis expressed with disdainful mockery before nodding and continuing, "Haven’t you noticed? They have no sign of life, no presence of a whole soul, and what’s more, even their bodies are more akin to undergoing Undead Transformation."
"Hmm, that seems to make some sense. I was wondering why it took so much effort to kill it just now, it felt tougher than a normal Demigod Sharp-toothed Bear, heavily injured but still charging at my position." Dillie pondered and answered, "It looks like what you said might be true, could it be one of the Demigod Undead that have possibly been modified by the Divine Servants?"
"Yes, indeed. From this, it is clear that they have succeeded." Pannis stared at the two forms lying on the ground, which once could have been called bodies, and stroked his chin, saying, "Moreover, after their Undead Transformation, they seem to obey them even more, at least they can be sent out to carry out missions. Ava, are there any others?"
"No others have been found for now," Ava replied coldly, shaking her head, "But I don’t rule out the possibility that they have already been lying in ambush here since earlier."
"They’re ambushing us?" Dillie said in surprise, "That’s impossible, too exaggerated."
"What else do you think then?" Pannis retorted, "They burrowed into the ground just to throw us a welcoming party?"
"You roll." Dillie cursed casually but still said doubtfully, "Let’s not discuss other issues, just consider one point. If they really were acting on the orders of the Divine Servants, and have been waiting here to ambush us for thirty... oh, thirty-eight days, don’t you find that strange? How would the Divine Servants know when we would arrive?"
"They didn’t know," Pannis said, spreading his hands, "That’s why the two of them have been waiting for thirty-eight days."
"But they must have known that we would pass this way, which is why they lay in ambush here," Dillie asked, "The question is, did we even know we would come here thirty-eight days ago?"
"Are you so sure they only sent out one group of attackers?" Pannis countered, "To destroy their plans, one must surely enter the Temple of Danacus at the heart of the Forest of Death. However, there are only a few paths to the temple, and deploying one or two attackers on every path would suffice."
"Do you think that’s reasonable?" Dillie scoffed, "Are they so certain that we would definitely find this campsite?"
"Mr. Dillie, that isn’t difficult to guess, right?" Catherine interjected on behalf of Pannis, "If we chose the route through the Forbidden Land of Living Souls, then with Pannis’s power, it would have been impossible not to discover the old expedition campsite inside the cave by the edge of the Lake of Termination. Therefore, influenced by inertia, it is highly likely that we followed the trail to the campsite all the way here, as tracking down the campsite from forty years ago is the most convenient way to find their temple."
"Kyle’s abilities, you know, and so do I, but do those moribund and Undead Mages know that?" Dillie responded, "They couldn’t possibly know, so your explanation doesn’t hold."
"Ah, Dillie, instead of dwelling on these things, you might as well consider the other possibilities," Pannis sighed as if he had figured it out, "For instance, in the previous campsite, the significance of the skeleton that suddenly appeared, attacked us, and then ran away. Consider what the purpose of its existence could have been."
