Chapter 1092: Chapter 205: Wandering in the Woods

"Don’t move just yet, watch your steps, you need to change your walking habits, keep your weight on your back foot, and only shift your weight when your front foot is firmly on the ground." As soon as they entered the dense fog of the wandering forest, the girls realized that the fog within the woods was far thicker than it appeared from the outside; when walking in the fog, the visibility was less than a meter, unable to see even the ground ahead, let alone clear surroundings to determine their position. Such visibility was impractical in the complex terrain of the forest; one might trip over an obstacle every few steps, and even if one managed to stagger forward, they would often end up walking in circles due to an inability to identify directions, with the potential danger of getting lost in the vast jungle and never being able to leave. At that point, the girls finally understood that the name "wandering forest" was not just because someone saw twisted shadows wandering in the fog; a large part of the reason might be that once people entered the fog, they could only wander in it until the end of their lives.

However, the girls didn’t panic because Pannis’s voice immediately rang in their ears. Hearing his voice was like having the courage to combat anything. Pannis spoke unhurriedly and calmly, as if he was not in the mist at all, "Don’t use your eyes to look at your feet, no matter how hard you try, you won’t see clearly. Instead, use your body to sense. Now, try to extend one foot, keep your weight steady, yes, slowly extend it, reaching the same distance as you would normally step. When extending your foot, do not force it; if you feel your foot encounter an obstacle, lift it a little higher to step over, good, once you land firmly, start shifting your weight, then bring the other leg forward just as gently, yes, just like that, essentially breaking down each step into several stages. At first, go slowly, don’t rush, and as you get used to it, you can increase your speed."

"But how do we determine the direction?" Catherine, following Pannis’s guidance, indeed stopped stumbling, but just as she raised the question, while the immediate problem had been resolved, the longer-term issue remained unsolved. They still couldn’t identify their direction in the dense fog, "Do we use a long rope like before in the Shining Forest to ensure we are moving in a straight line?"

"That won’t work, the visibility here is even lower than in the Misty Forest of the Shining Forest, so low that it is impossible to judge a straight line by the three-point method. But don’t worry, Dillie and I have a way to find our direction," Pannis reassured them. "Both of our noses are very sensitive; we can clearly smell those people outside the woodland, so by scent, we can figure out which direction takes us further away from them, that way we won’t easily get lost. And don’t worry, this wandering woodland isn’t all covered by dense fog, only about two or three kilometers around the entrance is enveloped in fog, the inside will gradually lighten up until it disappears. Once we’re out of the dense fog, we can then use the usual methods to determine our direction."

"Actually, I don’t need to waste my time with you guys here," Dillie complained discontentedly, "Humph, the fog only reaches a height of about two hundred meters, I could easily fly high enough to get above the fog and then fly ahead and wait for you."

"Are you sure about that?" Pannis’s voice clearly carried a teasing tone, "I won’t object if you really want to do that. But do you really want to?"

"Asshole Kyle, do you think I’m an idiot?" Dillie scoffed contemptuously, "I may not have dared to come here before, but I’ve heard descriptions from those two birds. The higher you go in the air, the more of those things there are; on the ground, there are the fewest. I’m not stupid, why would I really do that?"

"It looks like you’re not completely dumb after all," Pannis clicked his tongue, his words still taunting, "I thought your intelligence was on par with an ordinary means of transport, sorry, I underestimated you."

"You’re the means of transport, your whole family are means of transport," Dillie roared in a language no one could understand, "Call me a means of transport again, and I’ll bite you to death, picking my teeth with your bones."

"Is this just ordinary dense fog?" Ava’s unfamiliar voice made everyone pause, but after a moment of discernment, they recognized it as hers. The Triclops girl seldom spoke, and even when she did, it was often very brief, prompting almost everyone to nearly forget her voice. Although unseen, everyone naturally pictured Ava’s expressionless face, "Or does this fog contain some special components that make it so thick?"

"There’s nothing special about it, this is just regular fog," Pannis seemed to have realized something and spoke expectantly, "Why, do you have a way to solve our current problem?"

"Yes," Ava said flatly, "An analysis of the data leads to a conclusion: the inability to maintain visibility in the fog is because of insufficient light. The light is blocked by the fog, unable to penetrate and reach us, making everything invisible."

"Um, actually no analysis is needed, that’s simply the case," Pannis scratched his head in resignation, "If we had a Crystal Energy lamp with enough strength, we could easily solve this minor issue, but unfortunately our goblin Illuminators aren’t powerful enough, so we have to use a more rudimentary method."

"Crystal Energy lamps are ineffective because their light isn’t pure," Ava’s Third Eye on her forehead slowly opened as energy gradually gathered around it, "However, my light is one of the purest forms of light. In the face of my Light Techniques, all fog will retreat."

As she spoke, a bright beam of light emanated from Ava’s forehead, strong but not blinding, and it continued without dissipating immediately, extending nearly twenty meters ahead. Just as Ava said, under the illumination of the pure Light Techniques, the fog still existed but had minimal impact on everyone’s vision. The girls, using the light, could clearly see the trees around them, the wildflowers on the ground, the weeds beneath their feet. The troublesome dense fog, once a headache for everyone, could no longer cause any trouble.

However, the girls could not feel happy—indeed, no one could—because as their vision returned, they saw not only the elements that should be in the forest but also something ten meters away that should not be there; something signifying trouble.
