Chapter 1016: Chapter 131: Defense Deployment from All Sides

The soft song was like an ethereal whisper barely reaching the ears, its lyrics incomprehensible, but the power to cleanse the soul could be distinctly felt. Ever since Muir appeared, this relaxing melody had never ceased, though the source of the song remained a mystery, and the singer unknown. Yet, the elusive song persistently hovered around Muir without reason, its persistence unwavering.

"You’ve ascended to a demigod as Yeda’s Singer," Pannis said, staring straight at Muir’s nearly flawless face, and exhaled deeply, "Unexpected. I thought it was the least likely profession you would advance to, yet you’re the first in the past two hundred years to ascend to a demigod in the true sense of clergy."

"However, Singers can’t really be considered true clergy," Muir responded casually with a shrug, openly admitting, "Singers exist solely to spread the songs of our lord, nothing more. They do not shoulder the responsibilities that clergy should bear. To put it simply, I am a singer of my lord, not a servant. So, it’s not quite right to call me the only demigod to ascend in recent times. After all, if you count me, then Alcmene and Doris’ Holy See are even more fitting, as they are much closer to being true clergy."

"They didn’t ascend as clergy," Pannis said, no longer dwelling on the matter, before closing his eyes and falling into silence. After a moment, he spoke again, "No wonder the song that follows you is so beautiful. It must be the Soul Song from the Yeda Divine Kingdom."

"I can’t help it, just having mastered the Inherent Psychic Domain, I’m still not proficient," Muir said helplessly, "I always can’t control the opening and range of the domain properly, so the songs within the domain inexplicably drift out."

"Sit down, Muir, don’t worry too much," Fula spoke gently, "This is a normal process. Everyone goes through it. Oh, except for Maya and Tiya, they are born demigods, they don’t have these issues. And of course, Little Brother Kyle, he already had a thorough understanding of the domain before his Psychic Domain awakening. Okay, take a seat. You rushed over in such a hurry. Besides wanting to show off your achievements, is there something in particular you wish to discuss?"

"Yes, I’ve just received news that the Neville Federation and the Falar Empire’s forces have begun to mobilize," Muir informed as he took a random seat, "The two mercenary corps from the Free City in the Neutral Land, the Silver Lily Mercenary Corps and the Fang Mercenary Group, have completed their preparations. They sent us an inquiry through a Messenger Bird, wanting to know if we can deploy some Forest Guards to the Neutral Land for cooperative exercises. If we are not ready to send troops yet, they plan to head to the prearranged defense zone to acclimate to the terrain. Our Forest Guards could then directly travel to the zone to join them there for the exercises. This message just came in ten minutes ago, and since I was on my way here, I brought it along."

"They’re starting their strategic preparations already?" Fula’s smile faded, slowly setting down her teacup, her brows knitting lightly as she pondered, "We left a day early, and the final agreements on defense zones among all parties were determined by military officers on the last day, which we didn’t attend. What was the final decision? Where are the defensive lines of all parties?"

"The Falar Empire and the Neutral Land together bear the burden of the northern defense line of the Sand Nation, each taking half the responsibility, with the Falar Empire covering a slightly larger area," Muir pulled out a note and glanced at it before continuing, "The Neville Federation and the Beastmen tribes alliance are responsible for the northeastern defense line of the Beastmen Prairie. Butte Plateau will deploy four Floating Cities for the battle, mainly to prevent Upper Rank Undead from reaching Butte Plateau. Ten Demigod Storm Mages from the Sea Race will also be stationed on the Floating Cities to assist in defense, ensuring sufficient high-level combat power to prevent any damage to the cities themselves."

"Tsk, it costs as many gold coins to deploy one Floating City of Butte as several years’ expenses for human nations," Pannis interjected with a sneer, "If one gets inadvertently damaged, I wager Warrensen would cry over the loss."

"That’s why I’m rallying our kin to help, regardless of relations, after all, it’s a battle for the whole world," Doris, now transformed back into her Ocean Form with a long fish tail flicking under the table, emanated a faint ocean scent, "Our combat effectiveness is greatly diminished in the desert, but it’s otherwise on a Floating City. There, abundant Water-attribute Elements are provided for us, allowing us to exhibit up to four-fifths of our strength, enough to block any Upper Rank Undead. Not just our kin, but I will personally join the battle. If the situation turns dire, I will invoke my lord’s Holy Image to bolster our combat prowess, to make up for our absence from the last Undead War."

"Old folk in the church mentioned that if all forces had united like this during the last Undead War, we could have at least halved the casualties," Lina commented on the cooperative discussion while idly tracing a square over her chest, with an expression of compassion, "What a pity. But why wasn’t there such close collaboration back then?"

Although the priestess girl merely voiced her puzzlement innocently, she noticed the demigods present had odd expressions. Pannis gave her a meaningful glance. Although she did not understand the reason, Lina wisely chose to keep quiet, no longer swayed by her curiosity. After a moment of silence, several demigods simultaneously coughed lightly and exchanged looks before Alcmene spoke: "Sss, things were complicated back then, sss, it mainly boiled down to an issue of trust, sss. Although the races had stopped being hostile to humans, they still didn’t fully trust you, sss, so they didn’t form an alliance at the outset. Sss, by the time Little Brother Kyle convinced everyone to unite, the prime opportunity had been missed, and pushing back the front lines became much tougher, sss."

"So, you still don’t truly understand the significance of Kyle’s and Nellie’s actions for the entire Yarran World back then," Fula sighed, "Actually, the ever-closer ties between powers and the deepening personal connections among the demigods of each race, are all inseparable from their efforts back then. It was precisely their selfless sacrifice that prompted the different forces to start trying to trust and rely on each other."
