Chapter 728: Chapter 54: What principle does this illustrate?

"The Pangluosi Family of Elk Valley has revolted," Fosto said. "They have defected to those of the Wing Tribe and suddenly turned against us during the banquet, taking Lord Hels and a host of nobles hostage."

"Using them as hostages, they forced the others to lay down their weapons. Now Lord Hels has been taken to Lion Heart Castle."

"The Pangluosi Family made their move at a banquet?" Ferdinand’s expression turned grave. "Such despicable conduct will make them lose all the honor of nobility."

"It seems the Pangluosi Family no longer cares about such things," Miss Rabbit said with a sneer. "After all, they don’t plan to be nobles of the Empire any longer."

Ferdinand frowned. "Do we have any way to rescue Lord Hels? I remember Prophet Merlin still has people in the Royal Capital."

"Those are just intelligence agents with very few among them being warriors." The Lady shook her head. "It’s difficult to rescue Lord Hels now."

Ferdinand actually knew it was unlikely, and with the Wing Tribe having the ability to fly, even if someone did manage to snatch away Hels, they wouldn’t get far.

However, as a vassal, as long as there was a glimmer of hope, Ferdinand would try. He could not sit idly by and watch his liege trapped in danger.

"I plan to take men to rescue Lord Hels at Lion Heart Castle," declared the Family Head of the Batoris Family.

"Ferdinand, calm down first. The Golden Valley is still at war, and the routes to the Royal Capital aren’t even open yet."

Miss Rabbit advised, "Plus, even if you go now, it will take at least two months to get there, who knows what the situation in the Royal Capital will be by then.

"If you are really worried about Lord Hels’s safety, you can stay in my castle for another night. Prophet Merlin is coming back tonight, and you can then ask for his advice."

Hearing this, Ferdinand finally calmed down.

Miss Rabbit’s gaze swept over the others in the room, finally resting on Angela.

At the moment, the latter seemed nervous, having several times lifted her hand to her mouth to bite her nails, only to realize and retract it at the last moment.

"Lady Angela, do you have something to say?"

"Ah?" Miss Weasel was suddenly called upon, causing her to jump.

This was her first time participating in a gathering with other nobles since becoming the Family Head.

Previously, Gwen had issued an order to the Immanuel Family demanding the traitor Ilkand to be handed over within a month.

Angela was so frantic about this that her hair was almost falling out, leaving her no time to meet with outsiders. She hadn’t even held the banquet that was customary for new Family Heads.

With the deadline approaching, Miss Weasel could only pray incessantly to Saturday, and, unexpectedly, it actually worked.

Gwen himself went to attack Duolin City and then conveniently died there, so no one mentioned Ilkand anymore, allowing the Immanuel Family to survive this major crisis.

Angela was finally able to take the time to attend the meeting, having thought it would be a casual first encounter to get acquainted and have a chat.

Yet, discussions turned to warfare, which she knew nothing about. She didn’t even know how many troops her family had; all responses to others’ questions were handled by the advisor Galin had arranged for her.

Angela felt like a struggling student amidst a group of scholars, feeling she had lost the ability to understand their language, completely unable to grasp what they were talking about.

But for the sake of the Immanuel Family’s face, she had to pretend she understood it all, occasionally nodding her head.

She was barely managing to muddle through when she realized the biggest challenge was yet to come.

The old man who just pushed the door open brought with him a devastating piece of news.

——The current master of the Western Territory, the head of the Figrola Family, had fallen into the hands of the Wing Tribe.

The moment Angela heard this news, her head exploded with a boom, feeling as if the sky had collapsed.

Lately, the Western Territory had been very unsettled, with more chaotic incidents occurring than in the past few centuries combined, and high-profile figures were dying left and right.

If the Figrola Family was also finished, then what could be done?

The more Angela thought about it, the more frightened she became. She just wished Galin were here; the housekeeper always had plenty of ideas, while she herself had no experience with such matters.

But as they say, what you fear may come to pass. When Ireya asked her this question, it didn’t seem right for her to keep silent. After hemming and hawing for a while, she managed to choke out a sentence.

"I was wondering, can we really hold off the attack from those Wing Tribe members? I mean, they’ve breached Lion Heart Castle and even defeated a full hundred thousand troops of the Imperial Army. Now, even Lord Hels has fallen into their hands.

"Moreover, they have dragons, three of them, in fact. Last time, just one dragon caused a huge mess in the Western Territory, and my father died because of that..."

Halfway through speaking, Angela felt something was off, as if she were becoming more and more discouraged, so she quickly closed her mouth.

"Good question," said Miss Rabbit. "We, and not just us, but the entire Empire is indeed at a disadvantage in this war. But we still have the protection of Saturday, and we have Prophet Merlin. He always brings miracles."

"Okay... okay," Angela nodded, retreating into her shell, this time directly gnawing at her fingernails.

Ireya could feel the atmosphere in the room growing tense, which was why she hadn’t shared the news about the Wing Tribe possibly attacking in a month with the others.

The current happenings were enough to frighten many.

The Wing Tribe had been winning consecutive battles lately, crazily devouring the Empire’s land with an unstoppable momentum, and their minions were growing ever more numerous.

Everything pointed to a scenario where the outcome seemed already decided, not something a mere film viewing could stop.

So, the Lady decided to give everyone an uplift. She had the maid bring out the projector donated by the Double Rest Sect, plugged in the external power supply, and dug out her USB drive.

She found the "Lord of the Rings" series of movies and started playing them.

This was a film that Li Yu had recently watched with her, perhaps because its era resembled their own. It was also Miss Rabbit’s favorite movie, surpassing "Tom and Jerry".

The Lady acted as a commentator on the side, using the plot Li Yu had explained to her during their last viewing and filled in the dialogue for the audience.

It didn’t matter if her translations were wrong—as no one else could understand them anyway.

Miss Rabbit then pointed to the Ring Protection Team on the screen and began persuading everyone in a gentle tone.

"Compared to that great evil eye, they too were very small. But in the end, they defeated an enemy a hundred times stronger than themselves. What does that tell you?"

"Unity... is most important?" Angela quickly responded, unusually prompt with her reply.

However, Miss Rabbit shook her head upon hearing this, "No, it means Gandalf is too powerful. Prophet Merlin is our Gandalf, no, he’s even more powerful than Gandalf."

Everyone perked up upon hearing her say this.

That’s more like it. When the enemy is that strong, what good is unity alone? In the end, it seems one must rely on Gandalf, and thankfully, they had their own Gandalf, an upgraded version even.
