Chapter 726: Chapter 52: Let’s go, let’s go home

Golden Eyes had left early in the morning, yet he hadn’t returned by evening.

Wendy and the others were getting restless, suspecting that Golden Eyes might have decided to abandon them and leave on his own after completing his mission.

After all, leaving Duolin City wasn’t easy now, let alone taking them with him.

"I told you, you can’t really rely on people from the Double Rest Sect." Erin, looking at the increasingly dark sky, rubbed his stomach, which was growling with hunger, and complained.

"What’s the point of saying this now," Wendy said. "Instead of talking, we should go out and find some food."

Then she turned to the youngest, Dadanio, "Dadanio, you stay here and keep waiting for that guy; Erin, Tomman, let’s go out."

As she stood up, however, there was suddenly noise from the tunnel again.

Golden Eyes first threw out a bag of something and then showed his face.

"I thought I heard someone speaking ill of the Double Rest Sect just now."

Caught red-handed, Erin was embarrassed, but out of pride, he still retorted, "I said it, so what?"

"Nothing much." Golden Eyes climbed out of the tunnel, brushing off the dirt on his clothes. "Just no food to eat."

After that, he pointed to the package on the ground, and Wendy went over, opened it, and discovered roasted chicken, pies, and sausages, all emitting a tempting aroma.

Golden Eyes said lazily, "I ate your beans and smoked meat before, so this is to make it up to you."

The boys and girls stared at the pack of delicious food, their eyes wide and constantly swallowing saliva; Erin’s stomach embarrassingly grumbled again at that moment.

He tried to divert his gaze from the fragrant food while others had already cheered and rushed towards their dinner; Erin, however, silently moved to one side.

Seeing this, Wendy put down the piece of chicken she had just torn off, walked over to Erin, "Erin, go and apologize to Lord Golden Eyes."

"I won’t go." Erin stubbornly said, "I’m not hungry at all."

Wendy’s expression became gradually more serious.

"We are about to head to Green Field and join Prophet Merlin and Lady Ireya. If you can’t adjust your attitude, you’ll continue to suffer, maybe even lose your life. In that case, we might as well stay in Duolin City."

"I... I..." Erin’s eyes became teary, "I can stay behind on my own."

"Really? Without food and companions, how do you plan to survive?"

"I will join an army. Many places in the city are hiring."

"Have you forgotten what happened to that new army a year ago?" Wendy said. "Go apologize, you know in your heart that you did wrong, right? What did your father tell you? Only a real man admits his mistakes."

With the last words hitting him hard, Erin deflated, walked up to Golden Eyes, and apologized to him, then added.

"I’m not saying this just because of the food you brought back; I... I’m really not hungry at all."

Golden Eyes played with the Swiss Army Knife, not looking up, "We leave the city in the morning. Even if you’re not hungry now, it’s best to eat something."

"Is your task completed?" Wendy asked.

"Yes."

"May I ask how we’re going to leave tomorrow? You know it’s not easy to get out of Duolin City right now. Those guards won’t let people leave the city freely."

"Don’t worry, I have a way to get you out," Golden Eyes seemed not at all concerned about such matters.

After dinner, Wendy and the others tidied up a bit and closed their eyes with anxious hearts.

The next day, as soon as it was light, Golden Eyes came to their place and woke everyone up.

Then the five of them followed this referee from the Double Rest Sect and left their secret hideout.

There weren’t many people on the streets outside, but Golden Eyes still chose to take the more secluded paths.

Wendy and the others played a significant part; they had lived in the city for a long time and knew it well.

Just when they were about to safely reach the agreed place, they still encountered trouble on the last stretch of the road.

As they passed through an alley, they ran headlong into a group of drunken guards.

The group consisted of six men, and Golden Eyes had already actively moved to the side to make way for them. However, after a few steps, the guards stopped, turned around, and pointed at Wendy.

"You, come with us; I suspect you are a spy from the Figrola family."

"There must be some misunderstanding," said Golden Eyes. He didn’t want to cause trouble and voluntarily reached into his coat, pulling out a few silver coins to hand over.

But his gesture was met with a slap from a guard who, burping with alcohol, said, "Don’t pull that stuff on me, we have... we have to ensure the safety of this city."

As he spoke, he grabbed Wendy’s arm, intending to drag her away.

The girl, terrified and pale, tried to resist, but she lacked the strength of the guard and staggered as he pulled her.

The other guards stood by, egging him on, and someone else came over to lend a hand by grabbing Wendy’s legs, causing her to scream out loud.

Erin was the first to step forward, but since they needed to leave the city safely, neither he nor Tomman had brought their hand crossbows and could only draw a small knife and charge at the guards.

He hadn’t even reached them before he was kicked away, prompting another round of laughter from the guards.

However, their laughter soon came to an abrupt halt when they shockingly discovered that the comrade who had been helping to drag Wendy by the legs now had his head missing.

By his side, the man who initially tried to bribe them, dressed as a mercenary, had somehow drawn his sword from his waist, still dripping with blood.

The first guard to try dragging the girl also froze at that moment.

Realizing the danger, he tried to draw his sword, but his movements were too slow. Golden Eyes simply stepped forward, and his sword pierced the mercenary’s chest as easily as stabbing through a sheet of papyrus.

"You brought this on yourselves," Golden Eyes licked his lips, advancing toward the other four.

The four guards, disbelieving, all drew their weapons, wanting to avenge their comrade.

But within a few breaths, another lay down, and as Golden Eyes severed another man’s arm, the remaining two finally felt fear.

Realizing they had encountered a formidable opponent, they lost all fighting spirit and turned to run. Golden Eyes caught up with one in three strides, driving his Swiss Army Knife into the neck of the man.

But the last one had already run five steps away, shouting as he ran, "There’s a spy! There’s a spy!!! Help!"

Golden Eyes snorted coldly and hurled his sword like a spear, his formidable arm strength driving the blade directly into the back of the fleeing guard.

The man screamed miserably and quickly lay motionless on the ground.

By then, Wendy and the others were completely dumbstruck and remembered Golden Eyes’s self-introduction when they first met.

"I have killed people, hundreds..."

Now, no one doubted his words anymore, but before they could even catch their breath, they heard the sound of horse hooves.

"Bad news, we are close to the garrison’s station; the shouting must have alerted the people inside," Erin’s expression changed.

Golden Eyes also frowned; he could deal with six drunkards easily, but if more people came, he wouldn’t be able to manage and would have to flee, abandoning the youngsters.

However, when he saw the advancing cavalry clearly, he completely relaxed.

It was a bizarre troop, fewer than two hundred in number, but all clad in Black Armor, even the war horses they rode were black, like a dark cloud blotting out the earth.

They usually moved covertly, but this time they made no attempt to hide, arrogantly rushing down the street.

When they reached Golden Eyes and the others, the youngest, Dadanio, was so frightened that he sat down hard on the ground.

These men looked menacing, each emanating a faint yet unmistakable scent of blood.

But Golden Eyes said, "Don’t be afraid, they’re with us. Let’s go, we can go home now."
