Chapter 725: Chapter 51: Unite All the Forces that Can Be United
Golden Eyes felt that after he joined the Double Rest Sect, his heart had indeed softened a bit. He didn’t mind that Wendy and the others had wanted to kill him previously.
A group of starving kids wanted to learn to rob to fill their stomachs, which in Golden Eyes’ view, was nothing serious at all.
The bad things he had done before were much worse than this, and if one day he truly died at someone’s hand, Golden Eyes felt he probably wouldn’t have any regrets.
The reason he lamented his softened heart was because previously, his eyes only focused on the mission and never attended to anything beyond his tasks.
But this time, breaking precedent, he agreed to give Wendy and the others a lift, even if it was only after the mission was complete, which was quite an unusual thing for him to do.
However, Golden Eyes didn’t think too much of it. After sleeping and restoring some of his energy, he headed out early the next morning to check the marks he had left the previous day.
Yet, following the directions given by Erin and the others, he searched several spots but came up empty.
Was he really going to have to go search for Butcher Boggs in the army camp?
Golden Eyes couldn’t help but frown. He pondered his next move while heading towards the next mark.
Just then, Golden Eyes felt someone following him from behind.
On the surface, Golden Eyes remained calm, turning and walking towards an alley.
The follower waited a moment and then drew the short knife from his waist. After scanning around to make sure no one was paying attention to his actions, he followed into the alley.
But the moment he stepped into the alley, a sword swung down to meet him face-on.
The speed of this sword was not fast, but it was utterly silent.
The follower was caught off guard but in the nick of time, he managed to block the sword with his short knife.
Instead of retreating, the person stepped half a step further forward, locking Golden Eyes’ sword blade with his knife. At the same time, he reached into his chest, pulled out a second small knife, and swiftly stabbed towards Golden Eyes’ throat.
This move was extremely ruthless, yet Golden Eyes’ expression didn’t change, as if he had anticipated this situation. He shrugged his shoulder heavily, knocking away the man’s knife-holding hand, and easily neutralized this lethal strike.
However, the attacker used this collision to jolt Golden Eyes’ long sword, positioning the small knife against Golden Eyes’ throat.
"Your swordsmanship has worsened," the man said, shifting his gaze down to see Golden Eyes’ hand, "Is it because you’re missing a finger?"
"It’s fine, I can still beat you even with one finger less," Golden Eyes said lightly, his Swiss Army Knife, unbeknownst to when, poised at the attacker’s heart.
The attacker’s expression shifted, "It seems this time we are evenly matched."
Golden Eyes couldn’t be bothered to argue. In fact, his movement had been a notch quicker than the attacker’s. If they had truly been fighting for their lives, he might have been injured, but the one to die would definitely have been the attacker.
Nevertheless, Golden Eyes decided to give his opponent some face and didn’t bring up this point.
With a light press of his finger and a neat snap, he stylishly retracted his knife.
In the Bratis Continent, there are no spring knives, so the attacker was clearly interested in this intricate gadget.
But what he was more concerned about at the moment was something else, his face showing surprise, "You’re still alive? Hirodod said you betrayed the Church. For thousands of years, no traitor from the Church guards has survived."
Golden Eyes snorted lightly, "There is now."
"Then why did you come back and leave a mark in the city, what do you want from us."
"To show you a way to survive," Golden Eyes didn’t waste words and went straight to the point, "How much Moon Spirit Essence do you have left?"
"Not much," the assailant said, "Hirodod had destroyed all the formulas of Moon Spirit Essence stored in the Silver Moon Church early on, so that he alone remained in possession of the formula.
"We can no longer betray him, and with his death, the formula is lost. Fortunately, he had just produced a batch of Moon Spirit Essence before he died, but now we are almost out of it.
"If we can’t reproduce the formula, we’ll all die," the assailant said solemnly.
"That might not necessarily be the case," Golden Eyes said, "Prophet Merlin has a way to let you survive, or at least let some of you survive."
"Merlin, Double Rest Sect?" The assailant’s eyes gleamed briefly, "So this is why you, Golden Eyes, are still alive?"
"What, do you still consider the Double Rest Sect as enemies?"
"Not really," the assailant shook his head, "You were once one of us, you should know we just follow orders without personal likes or dislikes. Whatever Hirodod tells us to do, we do."
"But... does the Double Rest Sect actually need us, the ones who must operate in the shadows?"
"Those from the Wing Tribe have already occupied almost half of the Empire. It won’t be long before they will advance to the Western Territories, so Prophet Merlin said we must also prioritize our conflicts and unite all the forces we can.
"You are all well-trained warriors who have been through numerous battles, it would be a shame if you just died."
Golden Eyes said, "By the way, how many of you are left now?"
"Less than two hundred," said the assailant, "In the past two years, the Blood Moon Association has been constantly cornered by the nobles of the Western Territories, and many of us have died following Hirodod."
"You can come back to Green Field with me, Prophet Merlin will heal you, just as he healed me back then."
The assailant seemed to consider Golden Eyes’ proposition, "Does the Double Rest Sect also plan to fight those from the Wing Tribe? Those guys are no easy targets.
"I saw with my own eyes how their assassin, right in broad daylight, killed Hirodod while we were all too slow to react."
"Since you are all going to die anyway, does it matter whose hands you die by?" Golden Eyes said indifferently.
The assailant laughed, "You make sense, it seems we don’t really have a choice. For people like us, living an extra day is a day earned.
"Let’s go, I’ll take you to meet the others. Unless something unexpected happens, they will likely agree to go with you."
Golden Eyes raised an eyebrow, "Aren’t you going to find out more about how to remove the curse Hirodod placed on us? This isn’t like your usual style."
"No need, you standing here alive and well is proof enough for me," the assailant said.
"Alright then, when do we leave this place?"
"We’ll leave first thing tomorrow morning."
"Tomorrow morning, do you have a way to sneak out of the city?" Golden Eyes frowned, "I’ve heard that Duolin City is no longer allowing residents to leave."
"Why sneak out when we can just break out," the assailant grinned, "Not to boast, but with the current waste of a garrison in Duolin City, even if two or three thousand of them came, we could easily break through."
