Chapter 716: Chapter 42 Your popularity isn’t bad
There were ten minutes left before the class bell would ring when An Yixin made her way toward her classroom.
It was the peak time for entering the school, and An Yixin was surrounded by students carrying backpacks. Being caught in the crowd gave her a sense of security.
However, the walk from the school gate to the classroom wasn’t long, and soon An Yixin arrived at the entrance to her class.
Then she saw two upperclassmen standing there, one of whom was the tall girl who often hung around with Zhang Jingyi.
As soon as An Yixin saw her, she immediately stepped back and retreated around the corner of the stairs.
After thinking it over, she descended half a flight more, and finally, with about five minutes left before class, the two girls gave up and went upstairs to their own classroom.
An Yixin heard their footsteps fading away before she ascended the staircase again.
As usual, she walked into the classroom with her head down and went straight to her seat without greeting anyone.
She then put her backpack into her desk and took out the books needed for the first lesson, only to discover that quite a few people were sneaking glances at her, accompanied by hushed whispers.
An Yixin frowned.
She then reached into her desk again, took out the books she had left there the previous night, and found a small note in her biology textbook printed in Song typeface.
—Everyone in the class now knows about your ugly affairs.
An Yixin looked up and gazed in Zhang Jingyi’s direction, just as the latter was looking at her and smiling.
Expressionless, An Yixin crumpled the small note into a ball and tossed it back into the desk, while a boy next to Zhang Jingyi intentionally spoke out loud.
"Hey, did you hear? That person, yeah, that one seems to be prostituting."
"Right, now that you mention it, I also saw her getting out of a BMW this morning, with what looked like a crummy old man driving," another girl chimed in.
"An old man, too? Well, isn’t that impressive?"
"That’s professional integrity for you."
The boys laughed raucously, and Zhang Jingyi said discontentedly, "You guys are going too far, how can you talk about a classmate like that?"
"No, no, no, I really saw it."
"I saw it too."
Luckily, the malicious talk didn’t continue any further because the Chinese teacher entered the room at that moment.
The classroom instantly quieted down.
Everyone quickly returned to their seats, sitting up straight, looking the part of attentive students.
The sun streamed in through the windows, casting a youthful and vibrant glow onto the faces of these flowers of the motherland.
An Yixin wasn’t in the mood to listen to the lecture and stared blankly at an illustration in her textbook. She barely made it until the bell rang for the end of class, after which the Chinese teacher dragged the lesson on for about three more minutes before finally packing up the handouts and leaving, seemingly satisfied.
The other students relaxed, chatting, fetching water, and some even took the opportunity to finish their unfinished breakfasts. An Yixin remained seated, not moving from her spot.
Because she had seen several upperclassmen loitering by the door, they even stopped a boy on his way to fetch water and said something to him.
Afterward, the boy turned back and said to An Yixin, "An Yixin, someone is looking for you."
An Yixin didn’t respond.
The boy, because of his poor family background and the fact his father had apparently been to prison, was also one of the quiet, marginalized people in the class.
He actually felt some sympathy for what An Yixin was going through, but considering they both belonged to the bottom of the food chain, even if he sympathized with An Yixin, there was nothing he could do, and he also had to be careful to keep his distance from her.
To avoid being recognized as an accomplice of An Yixin, otherwise, they’d end up isolated together.
So, he repeated, "An Yixin, someone is looking for you outside," intentionally raising his voice a notch.
The classroom fell silent for a moment, then the girl sitting behind An Yixin poked her with the back of a marker pen and said, "Aren’t you going? It could be one of your regular customers."
An Yixin turned her head and glared fiercely at the girl, who then sheepishly withdrew her hand.
Turning to the boy again, An Yixin said, "I don’t know them," and took off her headphones and placed them back on her head.
The boy felt a bit awkward and could only turn back and say to the older students outside, "She’s not coming out."
"Utterly useless, get lost," the older student said.
"No worries, we’ll block her after every class. I don’t believe she won’t drink water or use the toilet," said another.
As it turned out, An Yixin really didn’t drink water or go to the toilet during the breaks after the next two classes.
The older students waiting outside were clearly growing impatient.
However, after the fourth period was lunch break, and once most of the students had left, it wouldn’t matter if An Yixin didn’t come out.
Knowing this too, An Yixin did something out of the ordinary after the fourth class—she was the first to dash out of the classroom, running towards the school’s exit.
Yet, when she reached the first floor, she was still stopped by people, three girls and two boys, who surrounded her.
They then took her into a girls’ restroom, with two of the girls staying outside to guard the door and the remaining three pushing An Yixin inside.
After a while, a tall girl and the other two boys arrived as well, but Zhang Jingyi was nowhere to be seen.
The tall girl smiled at An Yixin and said, "You’re quite good at hiding. Why not keep doing it?"
An Yixin backed up to the last cubicle and asked, "What will it take for you to leave me alone?"
"Return the iPad Pro or compensate us with money. That’s not too much to ask, is it?"
"I’ve said it’s not me who stole it."
"Still so stubborn. It seems you really won’t cry until you see the coffin," the tall girl advanced and raised her hand.
However, at that moment, an uninvited guest appeared in the restroom.
It was a Persian Cat, with a pair of golden pupils and pure black fur without a single impurity.
It nonchalantly walked past the tall girl and the others and eventually stopped in front of An Yixin, separating her from the group.
Then it took an attacking stance and meowed twice at the tall girl.
However, its ferocious appearance failed to make the humans feel any threat.
The tall girl was briefly taken aback before she couldn’t help but burst into laughter, "You’ve got some good friends, don’t you? Here’s one willing to stick up for you."
Before her words were finished, the Persian Cat lunged at her.
The six people present only saw a blur before them and, in the next instant, the Persian Cat’s body suddenly began to swell in mid-air.
In the blink of an eye, it had grown several times its original size and was still getting bigger.
By the time it pinned the tall girl to the ground, it had grown larger than a Tibetan Mastiff.
It exuded a dangerous aura all over.
