Chapter 660: Chapter 33 The New Member of the Movie Club
Because Li Yu hadn’t arrived yet, the initiation ceremony couldn’t proceed, so Ireya decided to first let Angela join the film viewing group.
The two of them came to Miss Rabbit’s study, and without Galin accompanying her, Angela looked even more uneasy.
Her eyes kept darting towards the doors and windows, worried that the Lady might suddenly strike at her, as she mentally mapped out an escape route.
Although the two were similar in age and build, the woman across from her had bested many a foe at the martial arts tournament, seizing the champion’s title through a series of overwhelming victories.
Had she known the Lady was so formidable in combat, Angela would never have dared to provoke her upon their first meeting.
Fortunately, at least up until now, Miss Rabbit had been fairly courteous to her, closing the door and motioning towards a chair in front of them.
"Take a seat. Don’t be too nervous."
"Oh," Angela carefully sat down.
The Lady also pulled out a chair, "You’re about to become a member of the film viewing group. Do you know what we do?"
"I don’t," Angela shook her head, candidly admitting, "Miss Galin asked me to join."
Miss Rabbit, hearing her talk this way, felt her gossip-loving heart stir. She moved her chair forward a bit and gestured for the other to elaborate.
"Are you and Miss Galin truly lovers? But I remember previously you were interested in men. When Lord Leo came to the Western Territories, you were always trying to get close to him, as if you wanted to stick to his side desperately."
Angela’s face turned red at this, "I, I didn’t understand anything back then. I simply thought that marrying into the Imperial Family would be glorious, and I wanted to live in the Royal Capital."
"What made you change your mind?"
"After my father was attacked by that Evil Dragon, a lot of things happened. It was Miss Galin who was always protecting me."
"I understand you’re grateful to her, but how did you two end up in this relationship? Did she pursue you, gave you a lot of spending money?" the Lady inquired curiously.
"No, I confessed to Miss Galin first," Angela whispered, her face growing even redder. "I don’t understand. What does this have to do with me joining that film viewing group?"
"Of course, it’s related," the Lady straightened her face, feigning seriousness, "Our membership criteria are very strict. We must conduct a deep investigation of all potential candidates.
"Also, you must not lie while answering, or else you will be rejected, and in severe cases, you might completely lose the chance to be a candidate."
"Alright," Angela, not quite comprehending, nodded her head, "What do you want to ask?"
"Let’s start with Galin, since you are lovers, you must know her well."
Angela didn’t understand why Miss Rabbit was so interested in Galin, but having been reprimanded recently, she didn’t dare to further question and continued.
"Actually, Miss Galin’s background is quite pitiful. Her mother was of low status, just a maid in the family, who was cast out after becoming pregnant.
"Fortunately, she was later taken in by a Dwarf Troupe, so she didn’t end up on the streets. But six years after giving birth to Galin, she died of a cold infection. The Dwarfs took care of young Miss Galin, having her sell tickets for them.
"Sadly, the good times didn’t last. The troupe’s owner racked up a lot of debt gambling and tried to sell Miss Galin to an old Noble with unspeakable peculiarities. In the nick of time, a Dwarf playing the role of a Knight secretly let her escape."
"In order to escape the pursuit of the troupe leader and that old noble’s henchmen, she hid alone in the woods for seven days and nights, eating the only bit of dry food she had on her... Later, when she was too hungry, she found some wild fruit to eat.
"As it turned out, the fruit was poisonous. She writhed in pain on the ground and passed out. When she opened her eyes again, she found herself on a carriage.
"A passing merchant caravan had saved her. Coincidentally, one of the merchants had just lost his daughter and decided to adopt her, teaching her arithmetic and literacy."
"Those were the happiest times for Miss Galin, until one day the merchant went to a nearby town to buy goods and never returned.
"Later, Miss Galin heard that on that day, a large group of people came to the town, claiming to be brigands. They targeted the wealthy, captured all the merchants in town, robbed them of their goods, and then tied them up and burned them alive."
"Ha, who was the lord of that town? Didn’t he send anyone to rescue those merchants?" the lady asked.
"The baron’s name was Mann. At the time of the incident, he happened to be out hunting with nearly all his men."
"That’s a bit too coincidental, isn’t it?"
"Miss Galin thought the same. To uncover the truth, she managed to infiltrate Baron Mann’s castle and became a maid there. She was just eleven years old at that time."
"It didn’t take her long to understand the tragedy that had befallen her foster father that day. Mann coveted the wealth of those merchants and had people disguised as robbers to plunder his own town.
"And to prevent any issues that might arise later, he simply decided to kill them all.
"Mann was quite proud of himself. Whenever he drank too much, he couldn’t help but boast about his ’masterpiece.’
"Unraveling the truth wasn’t difficult, but revenge was a big problem. It took Miss Galin a full three years to find an opportunity to kill Baron Mann and successfully clear herself of suspicion, and another year to quietly leave the castle.
"After that she encountered other dangers. Those days were dark for her. Even the people closest to her would not get a word out of her about it. Later, her father’s people found her and brought her back to the family. Soon, she became her father’s most trusted steward.
"But besides her father, no one knew her true identity. Even within the family, some suspected she was just her father’s new mistress."
"..." Miss Rabbit was deeply shocked. She had not expected someone’s life story to be so twisted and complicated.
A look of sympathy crossed Angela’s face. "Miss Galin has been through many terrible things, but they have also made her all the more resilient and mature. I guess that’s probably why I fell in love with her.
"When I’m with her, I always feel a sense of security."
"Exactly." Miss Rabbit nodded eagerly, though the image that sprang to her mind was that of someone else.
Then she reached out her hand to Angela, "Welcome, welcome to the Viewing Club, Miss Angela."
"This... is that it?" Angela asked, bewildered, "But I’m the one joining the Viewing Club, not Galin. You only asked about Galin’s story, don’t you want to know anything about me?"
"I already know enough about you; just an empty head. Anyway, when any issue arises, Galin will be the one making the decisions in the end, so knowing about Galin is enough."
These were thoughts the lady only entertained in her mind. On the surface, of course, she wanted to maintain the dignity of the new member, so she merely patted Angela’s shoulder.
"No need for that; I had already sent people to investigate you thoroughly beforehand. What just happened was merely the final test."
